A REAPER CONVENTION
THE SCYTHE’S SECRETS is the second book in the Tessa Randolph Cozy Mystery series. Though each story will stand on its own, I recommend reading them all and in the order of release for maximum enjoyment.
If you think your boss is a pain in the butt, try Tessa’s momster! Like really, her mom is not only her boss, but also a grim reaper. Talk about pressure! Of course, they can’t disclose that’s what they’re doing, so the office has to pretend to be a boring life-insurance company.
Great characters and a unique storyline with a bit of romance stirred into the intrigue make for a fun and fantastic read that kept me glued to my kindle.
I’ve loved these stories so far, and I look forward to reading more in this wonderful series.
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via BookSprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

I really enjoyed this book. The first book was good but I think this book has taken the series to a whole new level. What I love is the very unusual job that the main character has, I think it really works for a cozy mystery series and it certainly leads to some interesting and funny situations. The characters are fun and I like the different relationships Tessa has with each of them, from the grumpy cat that gets his revenge on his humans, to her mother/boss that boss’s her about, to the match making friend- all just add a little something to the story. I liked the mystery plot and thought it played out well. Its just a fun cozy paranormal mystery and a great series.
Tessa Randolph is a trainee Grim reaper and her mother, who is also her boss sends her to Miami for the annual reaper conference. Her mum wants her to learn all about her job and take notes, Tessa wants to enjoy a nice time with her friend and maybe spend a little bit of time with the handyman from her building, who is on vacation and know nothing about her job. But when somebody starts to kill off the grim dealers themselves Tessa finds herself investigating the unexpected and unaccounted deaths. With endless boring talks, rivalry between branches to contend with and late night’s as well unwanted guests, will she find the time catch the killer?I
I liked the narrator. I have heard her read a number of books and didn’t always think she was right for the characters but she was perfect for these characters and sounded just right.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Things got intense in this story! It got really crazy at the Reapers Convention. Heck, it was crazy on the way there, then just proceeded to get even crazier! I was totally surprised with the outcome and the ending of the story…whoa!

Twist on Typical Paranormal Cozy
This soul reaper mystery series is certainly a fun twist on the usual paranormal cozies that feature witches or wizards. Even though this is the second book of the series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone. Tessa, our heroine, is going to a reaper convention in Florida, but reapers seem to be dying for no reason and without warning. Why are the reapers a target? Who wants them dead? I have read several books by this author (Paula Lester), and I like her easy-to-read and humorous writing style. Even with all the death in this book, she and her writing partner are able to keep the story light and even funny at times. I liked the budding romance between Tessa and Silas, her Michigan landlord. The authors are also able to keep up the quirkiness factor that needs to be present in a cozy mystery. Fun book, and good series!
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is a great little series. Book 2 of this series takes place soon after book 1 and continues the story. Each book can be read as a stand alone. This is a paranormal cozy mystery with a completed mystery ending and a hint of a bit of romance.
Tessa works for her mom and finds herself going to a conference in Florida. She is looking forward to little bit of fun in the sun while she is there, but things don’t exactly work out as planned. But then, what do you expect in a conference full of Grim Reapers…
Written as a 3rd person, single pov with a completed mystery ending. Good story concept, great and entertaining characters, engaging dialogue and easy to visualize detailed descriptions.

What an ending! I can’t believe what I just read. This book was exciting, drama filled, and surprising to say the least. Tessa seems to have found her way as a reaper with the opportunity to learn more. While at the conference, not only did she learn a few new tricks, but she learned a much more important lesson.

Our heroine is on a business trip, but when you are a reaper, work is never far away. Especially when your colleagues start dying unexpectedly.
This is book two of the series. The book is written as a standalone. I had no problem starting here.
This is a cozy mystery of the paranormal variety but not with a witch lead. The story is well written and easy to read, with a well developed cast and setting. It has all the essential elements of a good cozy including an intriguing mystery and a nice sense of humor. I really enjoyed the twist of a reaper as our sleuth as that provided a whole new perspective on things. Overall, a very fun read and I look forward to more books in this series.
Highly recommended.

Enjoyed reading this book. Tessa is a reaper, her mother is her boss. There is a mystery of why reaper are dying and no answers, but Tessa is on the case. I would recommend this book.

Wonderfully fun cozy series! Tessa has learned a great deal about being a reaper but she still has a ways to go. Tessa decides to up her skills by attending a work retreat/vacation to learn all the tips/tricks or her trade. During the conference an unscheduled death occurs so Tessa along with her colleagues try to figure out what happened. I just really loved the concept of this book and truly enjoy this series! I highly recommend it if you love a fun supernatural cozy!
The Scythe’s Secrets is the second book in A Tessa Randolph Cozy Mystery series and is a great addition to the series.
Who is responsible for the death of the reapers at the reaper conference? This is a fun cozy mystery with likable characters and an entertaining storyline involving murder, mystery, humour, and a touch of romance.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

A young reaper and her hot landlord (who does not know her job) join up in Florida during a reaper conference she is attending. Things get hotter between them as she tries to figure out why other reapers are dying. The challenges she faces keeps the pages turning and the suspense high while the banter between the characters and fun times keep the story on an even keel. The story with her mom gets stronger and the things she learns about herself and her abilities get wilder. The characters are strong and determined with great backstories to fill them in. Could not put this book down and loved it all. Now on to more by this author.

Tessa is excited to go the Reaper convention held in Florida. She is going with Gina and plans on some fun down there. It’s all a go when there is a death on her flight but no reaper to escort the body. That’s strange but it’s gonna get worse when there are reapers being killed at the convention. Can Tessa figure what is going on before she becomes the next victim? I enjoyed this fun, entertaining story. I received an arc of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love the characters and the plot. It was very well written and fun to read. And I loved how it ended. 5 stars!

Tessa Randolph is not happy at the assignment her boss, her mother actually, just assigned her. She is afraid of heights, and as a reaper gathering the man’s soul, she has to go up and get it while he is still up in the air – as he is diving out of a plane. Besides, her mother reassured her, there is no order in the books to pick up Tessa’s soul, so her parachute should get her safely to the ground. Tessa told her she might even apply for the deceased man’s job because a new boss other than her “current” one, would be wonderful right now. Life as a grim reaper was not always easy.
Now Tessa is on her way to attend the annual reaper conference in Miami, which she will at last be warm after leaving the cold of Michigan. Oddly a reaper also heading to the conference dies on the plane. Even more odd, none of the other reapers saw his soul depart for the hereafter. The strangeness has apparently followed them to the conference when there are more unexpected and unexplained deaths! What is going on? Tessa needs to investigate this before even more die, including herself! Who is killing off reapers? And why? Can she find the killer and stop him or her?
Though this is a book 2 it can be read alone. as I have read a ton of Paul Lester’s Books and some how missed the book, Grim and Bear It.
First of all let me say an office for Life Insurance as a fake business front for The Reaper Agency is amazing. Lester’s books always have little clever things hidden them, including little things to throw you off main story.
Cheryl heads up the Reaper agency and her young daughter Tessa, is an up an coming reaper. And since it is policy that no life, soul, can pass away alone, one of the reapers has to be on the plane with the guy who is going to die on the flight, Tessa is the only one available, but she is a grim reaper who is afraid of heights. See they are just like us.
Tessa eventually has to go to Florida to attend a grim reaper conference. And she take the maintenance man of her building with her. Little does Tessa know she is going to be working a lot at the conference as Grim Reapers start dropping like flies around bodies.
You will invest time and curiosity in side characters other then just mom/manager Cheryl, there is also Silas, April, and Timothy and the reapers at the convention. When the plot is developed and you know who did what you feel dumb that you missed what was int he story all along.
Tessa is on her way to a reaper conference in Miami and she is so looking forward to what she sees as a vacation. Silas, her hunky landlord has come into some money, and Tessa talks him into doing something nice for himself, like going on a vacation to Miami. While at the convention, Tessa learns new things about reaping and makes some friends. When she isn’t at the convention, she is out with Silas, until things start to go wrong. The deaths are giving Tessa a feeling that something isn’t right, so she starts checking into things, which endangers her life along with others, good thing the big guy gave her a secret. I like this series and hope it goes beyond the scheduled three books. The book contains Reapers, mystery, budding friendships, and a touch of romance and more.
