The Scrying by Jaci Miller is a new but different book series. This author, though new to me it did not make her writing any less impactful. I loved how you got to know the character, Dane, in and out. You got to meet her wonderful set of friends that you love and feel like your very own friends. Though for some the book may go a bit slow, this is the reason that I loved it. You got to feel the motion of Dane, you got to live through her. Not only were the characters of the book well done throughout the book but you really got to experience them. This book is very enjoyable especially for someone like myself absolutely loves herself a good paranormal romance. It is a story about coming into one’s self, even if it’s at a later time in life, and really learning what you are made out of.
The Scying, by Jaci Miller captivated my attention from the first chapter. With a combination of friendship, family bonds, romance and the paranormal, the story had all the elements of an interesting story.
More than that though, Miller created an entire alternate realm so imaginative and descriptive that I was in awe of her imagination and attention to detail.
The folklore, legends and prophecies were magically intricate and each bit of knowledge unearthed by the main characters, Dane and Rafe, had me reading late into the night, thirsting for more of what these two would discover.
So much of the story was spent in the other realm that I began to miss Dane’s best friends, Gabby and Stevie. But in the end it was made clear that they would become a vital part of Dane’s endeavor to complete her destiny.
I am anxiously awaiting the publication of Book Two of The Scrying Trilogy: The Hallowed.
The Scrying by Jaci Miller
Four Stars
A book where the females have amazing powers and learn to help and defend themselves. There is no damsel in distress. Dane (interesting name choice) has know what she was since she was younger. It didn’t make life any easier or less complicated. She struggles with hiding who she truly is from those close to her. With keeping her secret her romantic life is nonexistent and she has only allowed five other people close and even they don’t truly know her. I liked that the author gave us background on Dane’s family and why she was chosen. The author delivers a captivating story of magic, mystery, history, friendship and trust. You can see the characters growth. While reading you see all the amazing details the author put into this story. I love how authors create worlds out of their imagination it is just amazing.
The Scrying is the first book in The Scrying Trilogy from Jaci Miller. This book packs a lot of themes in it; fantasy, sci-fi, adventure and danger, and even some romance, just to name a few. I enjoyed that these themes worked well together in this storyline without getting too complicated. Miller works hard to incorporate the background details that are needed to make this happen.
Dane was such a fun character to read. I loved how she was very much the type of woman that would yell, “I am woman, hear me roar!” She just exudes that independence and strength that most would love to envy. She has had a difficult past and is guarding her heart and her true identity as a witch. That all changes when she finds herself in a new magical realm and meets the handsome immortal warrior, Rafe. There is an instant romantic connection between the two. Will they be able to work together and explore romantic possibilities? If they do will it complicate things to their detriment, or will it make them a stronger team?
I was really impressed with the world building in this book. There was a few moments where I was a bit bored, only in the sense that a few places got too wordy. It could have been described or explained just a little less detailed and have been ok. I appreciated the times where the excessive details were an enhancement though. Overall I am looking forward to seeing what will come next in the second book in the series.
The Scrying is the first novel in the Scrying series by Jaci Miller. This is my first novel by this author.
Dane Watts-Callan has been a witch ever since she was 13. Now that she is 31, she is going to start learning about the family legacy.
“The vision had ended with the image of a young woman, standing atop a magnificent waterfall. Her long dark hair flowing lazily behind her, piercing green eyes staring vacantly. She had held a familiarity, a sense she was somehow a part of him, but he had not known who she would be until now.”
Rafe Morrigham, an ancient warrior who been waiting for the prophecy to pass.
“His green eyes glazed as he thought back to that day in Braemore Woods forty-three years ago. A day, which had begun his obsessive search for answers and fueled an unyielding desire to uncover the truth behind his family’s legacy. He had seen the Elder Oak in his dreams weeks before he ventured into the forest to find it. It had beckoned to him, a silent shadowy figure in a moon-filled night.”
An attraction starts to form between the two. With Dane’s appearance, he knows an evil is about to rise. Will he be able to stop it?
I really enjoyed this novel. It had all the elements that kept me hooked. Great works building, interesting characters, engaging plot, memorable scenes.
It did some time to get me into the story but I enjoyed reading about Rafe’s background.
I look forward to see what happens next.
The Scrying by Jaci Miller
5 Stars!!!!!
Finding new authors is becoming on of my best past times. This is a very unique new series and I was sucked in from the first page. The plot line and characters are both refreshing and gripping.
I could feel the emotional weight of Dane’s Destiny. The duality she has to pull off weighs her down and you can relate with her in a way that a lot of times we have to put on airs for reasons. The build up of the relationship between her and Sebastian brings another level to the storyline. Seeing as this is the first book in the series I look forward to reading more and following their journey
as they fight to put the realms back together and get closer to one another.

I thought that this was a fantastic debut novel for this author! It’s not a genre I usually read but I was intrigued by the blurb and so glad that I read it. I don’t really know what I was expecting but it was a really enjoyable read. I will admit the place is a little slow and I feel that this is more of a setting the story kind of book for the next one in the series but I cannot fault the authors writing and she definitely does leave you wanting more. The characters were interesting and I enjoyed getting to know them. A huge strength of this book is the beautiful descriptive language that the author uses, I really felt like I was able to imagine this unique world that she had created and was describing to me. I loved the romantic twist too and I might kind of have a thing for Rafe!
If you are a fan of fantasy with a bit of romance thrown in then you will absolutely love this book – I know I did and I cannot wait to get book 2!!
The Scrying by Jaci Miller is the first book in the series and a debut for this author. It is a paranormal fantasy romance story that is well thought out and is engaging and draws you into the magical world. The story is a bit slow to start with but the pace picks up as we start to see the world from Jaci’s imagination. However ,I am sure it will pick up in the books to come as we face more of the destiny’s and prophecies, magic and witches and other magical beings and hidden realms where evil and darkness battle for dominance. A captivating and entertaining story has me anticipating book two. Let the games begin!
This page turner captured my attention on the first page and didn’t let go. I enjoyed the character development and appreciated the plot pace. This myth introduces its readers to a fantastic universe that I look forward to reading more about.
The Scrying is the first book in the trilogy and a debut novel by Jaci Miller. This story is a fantasy novel. Ms. Miller has knock this book out of the park. She has an imagination that is fresh and a vocabulary to go along with it. The tale of a modern witch with a warrior has a great chemistry. That alone is intriguing now add secrets, prophecy, magic, and a lot of sacrifice within self and destiny. Dane is a modern-day witch who is really coming into her own. She has a lot to learn in a short amount of time. Rafe is the ancient warrior who is just waking up to again to assist Dane in another battle. Ms. Miller has me wanting to read the next novel. I cannot wait to see how destiny will work out for them.

The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy book1) By Jaci Miller is the first book of her Scrying Trilogy series. This is also her debut novel.I can honestly say I can’t wait to see what more she comes out with. I had a hard time putting this Book down once I started reading. I was instantly hooked.Get ready for a rollercoaster ride with a few twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. This book has a bit of everything from witches ,to immortals to magical creatures to even a little romance. I highly recommend this Book especially if you like stories about witches and magic you can’t go wrong!!I can’t wait to dive head first into book two!
The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy Book 1) By Jaci Miller is an incredible written story that wears many masks fantasy, mystery and romance. The author takes great pride in the details of the story I think because it truly jumps off the page and pulls you into a new world you never want to leave. Sometimes with new series’s or first books you get bogged down with world building but I didn’t feel that way once in this story, I was immediately hooked and couldn’t put it down until the last page. Dane is a character that I simply could read about for a long time. She’s my definition of an amazing main character, you just connect with her. The storyline is well written and paced nicely. Characters complex and relatable. I’m very excited to read the next book and anything else this author brings readers. If you’re looking for your next Fantasy read with amazing characters look no further! I’m giving this book a five star review!
The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy, Book One) by Jaci Miller was a engaging read that had by hooked form start to finished.
By first book by this author I was not let down in regards to rich detail and solid world building. I love fantasy books, I love getting lost in their magical worlds. The Scrying was everything I love about reading, and getting lost. Beautifully written, I was easily sucked in and I didn’t want to leave.
I will say that there was some slow spots, but I didn’t mind too much, but there was bit too much down time between the action. I find that if you have to much a lulls between action, or major plots points, the reader gets uninterested and, it’s at those times you’re pulled out of the story. But the reason why I didn’t mind too much, is because this first book read like a set up for the books to follow. And, if you have been following my reviews, you know that I have mentioned this before, that this something that’s becoming the norm. But this book is a set above the others, as I said there is plenty of actions to keep you engaged, and you do feel at times like it could be a stand-a-longe.
The actually story was unique, and different enough that I was loving the development, even if there were some normal fantasy tropes. They way that this story was tackles really got me invested in this series and where it’s going. This is a series to watch out for. Not only is the writing easy to follow it’s a treat to the eyes. The characters are well rounded and enjoyable to read. I didn’t get annoyed by our MC’s, (okay not much), I felt myself connect and really enjoy reading about them. I felt like I was apart of the story just as much as they.
If you haven’t gusseted this book is a super high recommendation from me. As I said it is something to watch out for, and I believe this series if going to be freaking epic.
Happy Reading

The Scrying is the first book in The Scrying Trilogy and debut novel by Jaci Miller. This was a fantastic story and a superb debut! I was engrossed in the story right from the beginning. Let’s face it- she had me at modern witch and ancient warrior. I couldn’t get my hands on the book fast enough, and spent the night locked in this spellbinding tale. I didn’t want to put it down till I had read every last word. The story is dark and romantic- full of self-sacrifice, destiny/fate, secrets, ancient evil, prophecy, magic…. And much more.
Dane and Rafe are really brilliant characters who captivated me and had me completely invested in them and the story, the whole way through… and still am! I can’t wait to dive into the next book ASAP!
Ms. Miller writes a riveting story, but her world building is what really made the most impression on me- it is incredible. I was transported into the story, experiencing it in vivid colour right alongside the characters. Her words, and attention to detail brought everything to life, making the ‘world’ and everything that happened, so realistic and believable.
Bring on book #2!
Thank You, Ms. Miller!
The Scrying is the first book in The Scrying Trilogy. This book ends in a cliffhanger so be prepared for that.
I like the way the author has used both modern and ancient worlds to create a contrast. Both worlds are reliant on each other to survive. I enjoyed the idea of another Universe that existed before humanity and the author’s interpretation of humanity’s creation in this story.
What is it like to be a witch in a world full of non-magical people? Lonely, that what. Dane is under strict orders from the powers that be that she is never to reveal magic to humans. Unfortunately, this means that she is never truly connecting to people and can’t keep a romantic relationship or many friendships.
As her 31st birthday approaches, Dane uncovers the true heritage of her family and what is required of her. As the reality of her responsibility settles onto her shoulders, she realizes that she is going to have to distance herself even further from the few people she does have in her life. But does she really have a choice? Saving the world is a huge deal.
Rafe has been the sole occupant on a world frozen in time. He’s been waiting for the one the prophecy spoke about. The only trouble is, when she does arrive, it will mean that the end of everything is drawing close. After surviving the first great war in his Universe, is Rafe ready to help Dane fight another one?
As Dane and Rafe take the first steps toward Dane’s destiny, they find out that Rafe has an unexpected destiny as well.
I give The Scrying (The Scrying Trilogy Book 1) by Jaci Miller, 5 stars.
Dane is a modern witch in hiding. By law, she is not allowed to tell anyone about what she is. This makes it harder every year on her. She has 5 best friends, but even they don’t know. She feels like she is living a lie. Soon her life will become more complicated. A prophecy has been written long ago, and it seems like it may just be about her. Part of her feels like she was meant for more, and this is exactly what she was meant for. But she is not even allowed to tell her parents, whom is she so close to. Can she live with more lies? If she accepts, what will be the costs?
This is a wonderful book. I was quickly immersed in the story and could not put the book down. I enjoyed Dane. She is a very realistic character. She just wants to be close to her friends and perhaps have a man in her life, but it is not possible.
The story is something similar to those I have read before, but still different enough that I was not feeling repetition. The style of writing and the events themselves drew me in and I was wrapped in the story, feeling like a part of the book. Not to mention the Celtic angle, which made me even more drawn in. I cannot wait to see where the next book will take us.
I highly recommend this book to lovers of modern fantasy.
What a great fantasy romance book! Engaging from the start, it takes you on a wild journey exploring the origins of witchcraft and magic! Very vivid detailing, and a strong female lead-I was pulled into the story immediately! Adventure with romance! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
The Scrying, book one of the Scrying Trilogy, written by Jaci Miller is a fantasy/mythology style novel. Elaborate characters, creative stories and locales abound within this story with a touch of romance tied in. This is a story that will allow the reader to fall into the book as they are being led by the author through the pages and chapters. Beautifully written, start to finish; I found this a great start to this trilogy – so much, that I look forward to reading the subsequent parts of this trilogy. The level of details within this novel was not over done, but perfectly laid out along with the flow to keep the story steady and not overwhelming.
The Scrying is book 1 in a new trilogy from author Jaci Miller. This is a brilliant captivating and intriguing read that will keep you hooked till the end. This author has created a brilliant and interesting story line with amazing characters that make you want to follow their journey. Also this author has created such an imaginative world, that while reading you can mentally visualise the scenery, the characters and everything about this book.
This read is a great high fantasy read but also with the twist of romance. It has friendship, family, magic, paranormal. Making it everything that I love in a good read!
I love that we feel like we are learning along with Dane our female main character. Understanding new things and learning new things about her powers and her destiny along with her.
Finally coming into her own Dane ventures into a new world where a group of witch and wizards are trying to stop the evil that is threatening not only their land but earth aswell. Let’s not forgot that along this journey Dane meets Celtic warrior Rafe, this is where things get really real, these two connect immediately they have chemistry and an undeniable attraction but working together could complicate things. Will they be able to face the evil that is threatening the worlds and work together? Will they take their relationships to the next level?
This is one book that writing to much will give away the major parts of the plot, so everyone who gets a chance to read this be prepared for a journey like no other and to be captivated with this read.
I recently had the opportunity to read The Scrying by Jaci Miller and was impressed by how well the storyline flowed.
Jaci is a brand new author to me, and let me just say that she did a very good job of developing characters and allowing them to grow as the story went and as they needed. There is definitely a paranormal twist to this book, and I like it because that is the part that intrigues me the most.
Dana Watts-Callan, a witch in a modern world is thrown into a centuries old battle where she must discover herself and role she truly plays in all of this. We also get to meet Rafe Morrighan – an ancient immortal warrior who has been waiting for a prophecy to come. Together, they must confront all that is thrown at them.
I love that there is fantasy in this book, but there is also a touch of romance – which I absolutely enjoyed. Like I said before, I was very impressed with this author’s ability to capture all that she did with her words and create something that I’m looking forward to finish. This is a definite 4 Star Book for me! I can’t wait for the next installment!!
