Elizabeth Hunter’s worlds are always rich, complex, and loaded with unique detail that make me feel immersed in their universes. The Scribe is mystical and romantic, and the overarching mystery is powerful enough to sustain the series that follows. I can’t wait for the next book! I’m jealous of anybody starting this journey for the first time. Happy reading!
I cannot praise this story enough, honestly it has it all. A lonely woman trying to understand her differences in a world of normal. The Srcibe who finds himself fascinated by her, with a pressing urge to protect her. The evil that chases her with no true safe place to be found. A fascinating world of angels and their children, mates and magic. It’s amazing, vivid and utterly heartbreaking at times. I am leaving this review and heading straight for number too. I am ashamed to say it’s taken me way to many years to read this! I cannot recommend it enough!
I was totally captivated by the characters in this book and the process of their relationship as it grew over time and through difficult events.
I chose this book because I love epic fantasy and Zachary Webber is one of my favorite narrators. I really enjoyed the action, the building history, and the love between these characters as they come together. I’m hooked and will be binge listening to the rest of the series. As usual, Zachary delivers a beautiful performance as multiple characters, switching flawlessly between accents, genders, ages, and personalities. Can’t wait for more!
Loved, loved this book. I’ve read it at least three times. Loved the romance.
Elizabeth Hunter has done it once again! She has created a world and characters that are filled with such life and passion, that it burst from the pages. I could not put it down… I loved it!
Wow, this one hooked me hard. Ava has heard voices from the people surrounding her all of her life. She chose to be a travel photographer and travel to remote places to avoid crowds of people, and the voices that sometimes make her frantic. Yet Istanbul . . . the city of Istanbul draws her in. She loves it as she’s never really loved a city before. She was referred to a doctor there, who she believes is a psychiatrist, and supposedly able to help her. What she doesn’t realize is that her ability to hear voices is not a mental illness. She is the object of interest of two opposing supernatural groups. The characters are well written, the story is unusual and intense We have a slow build up of trust and romance, Ava learns more about who and what she is, but doesn’t learn enough. Leaving both her and the reader desperately wanting more!
Ohhhhh my gawd why did I wait so long to read this? Has to be one of my top 50 .. yes I have allot of faves lol. My poor heart screamed out though in the end with Ava. I must read the next book now!
This is a hauntingly beautiful paranormal romance and mystery fantasy. I loved how the mystery grew but also how the romance unfolded. But beware. You’re going to have to read The Singer after this. And The Secret after that.
I found this story to be so unique to the Paranormal books I usually read. Interesting characters, great internal deep dive into the characters thoughts, amazing storyline. This is a series and there is a bit of a cliff-hanger but I’m used to them. When an author takes you so deep into a storyline, it’s impossible to fit into one book. This is a seven or eight book series and I’m looking forward to reading them all!
Loved it!
Elizabeth Hunter knows how to keep the reader engaged. The Irin Chronicles and The Elemental Mysteries are favorites. If you are looking for a quick read, these are not for you. But if you are looking to enrapt yourself into the world and tale she weaves for her readers, I suggest you give her a try (only if you are into the genre). I am not a fan of authors creating novellas in between each book in a series, or after a series is finished. I usually skip those. Stick to the original series and let it end when it does.
I love this book and the series itself.
This is an awesome series…great characters. Hard to put down. Left me wanting more.
Love this whole series. Her vampire books are good too, but these are very unique.
THE SCRIBE is a perfect marriage of urban fantasy with tinges of romance. Hunter is truly one of the most talented (and thank goodness, prolific) paranormal/urban fantasy writers today. Creating a world in which ancient evil battles for turf and the heart, and the innocent are trapped in the crossfire, she leads us on a riveting journey through the streets of Old Istanbul and old magic. And as a student of Turkish history and former frequent visitor to Istanbul, I can tell you her narrative lives and breathes with truth and authenticity.
A very different world, complete with intense love and fights to the death. Lots of hard-bodied mystical warriors and complex female characters. A satisfying start to a series of tales about life within a mysterious tribe of men and women living within the times that we regular humans inhabit.
Loved this series. e EHunter is a wonderful story teller. I couldn’t put this series down.
