“This could be the worthy Lord John Grey’s breakout novel, as readers are treated to large dollops of Outlander hero Jamie Fraser.”—Booklist A captivating return to the world Diana Gabaldon created in her Outlander and Lord John series, The Scottish Prisoner is a masterpiece of epic history, wicked deceit, and scores that can only be settled in blood. London, 1760. For Jamie Fraser, paroled …
London, 1760. For Jamie Fraser, paroled prisoner-of-war, life is coming apart at the seams. In the remote Lake District, where he’s close enough to the son he cannot claim as his own, Jamie’s quiet existence is interrupted first by dreams of his lost wife, then by the appearance of an erstwhile comrade still fighting to rally the Irish. But Jamie has sworn off politics, fighting, and war. Until Lord John Grey shows up with a summons that will take him away from everything he loves—again. Lord John is in possession of explosive documents that expose a damning case of corruption against a British officer. But they also hint at a more insidious danger. Soon Lord John and Jamie are unwilling companions on the road to Ireland, a country whose dark castles hold dreadful secrets, and whose bogs hide the bones of the dead.
Praise for The Scottish Prisoner
“Call it what you will—historical adventure, conspiracy thriller—it’s an engrossing story, masterfully paced, with exciting plot twists, swift reversals, and robust characterizations.”—The Globe and Mail
“As always, Gabaldon goes above and beyond. . . . If you love historical fiction, this book could be a good entrance point into the Outlander world.”—Bookreporter

This book explores the relationship between Jamie and Lord John during a time which is lightly described in The Voyager.
This is the best of the Outlander novellas. Great characters, great writing.
Love the world of the Fraziers. Diane Gabaldon is my favorite author.
I am not a fan of the Lord John stories, but The Scottish Prisoner does give one a “Jamie Fix” without having to deal too much with Lord John. Honestly, I’d read almost anything that featured Jamie Frazier. It was a bit of a stretch to see why John Grey and his brother really needed Jamie in their venture, but the story was interesting and Jamie’s private thoughts contrasted to what he said aloud was often very entertaining.
I really enjoyed the original series, this fill in of missing time, but disappointed me, could not even finish it.
I love the Outlander series. This was just an extra fill in that made it more enjoyable. I need to finish the series as I’ve only read 6 of them.
I love the historical background to the stories.
I love this series
All of Diana’s books are fabulous.
I have read everything from this author. Love how all the characters get fully developed.
All Galbaldren’s books are entertaining.
Extremely interesting characters. Well-crafted story.
It was a satisfying read while waiting for the final book in the Oulander series. However, Jamie without Claire is not as compelling.
Diana Gabaldon has given us marvelous characters in her Outlander series, and has followed on with great stories involving some of those characters outside the story arc of Claire and Jamie. Lord John Grey is one of these characters, and this is a terrific story involving him with Jamie on a side adventure separate from the Outlander story line.
I just couldn’t get into it.
I love everything Diana writes.
Not as good as the primary Outlander series, though gay storyline adds interest.
Anything Diana Gabaldon is a wonderful read!
If you enjoy historical fiction novels, all of Diane Gabaldon’s novels of the Outlander series are great reads.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical, action packed, romance. You never know what will happen next in this series of books. Very entertaining.
