He only cares about revenge. Until he meets her.A widow after only one year of marriage, Lady Roysa chooses to run to her sister Idalia, who is wintering at Dromsley Castle, rather than retreat to the property granted to her. What she doesn’t realize is that Idalia and her new husband have a secret—they are part of a rebellion against the king, as is their gruff host at Dromsley Castle. The last … Castle.
The last thing Terric Kennaugh wishes for is a guest, let alone one who seems more concerned about fashion than the Order of the Broken Blade’s rebellion against King John.
He may be more of a Scot than an Englishman, but the English royals have a long history of doing his family wrong. He won’t miss his chance at revenge, especially not by the poorly timed arrival of a pampered English miss. Even so, Idalia is as good as a sister to him, and he cannot refuse shelter to a member of her family. To his surprise, he soon finds himself warming toward Roysa—whose beauty and stateliness is but a small part of what makes her a strong, noble woman.
But love is a distraction he cannot afford if he is to have his revenge.
Dromsley Castle is about to become the first battleground in what promises to be an all-out war between the king’s men and the Order.
Can love bloom in the midst of so much danger?

I was so looking forward to reading Terric and Roysa’s story and Cecelia Mecca did not disappoint. I swear, this series just keeps getting better and better, if that’s possible!!
The Order of the Broken Blade continue their rebellion against King John and as a siege or a battle appears to be on the horizon for Dromsley Castle, it’s up to Terric to decide what the plan will be. Amidst all of this, Roysa arrives at the castle, much to his consternation, and no matter how much he fights his attraction to her, it’s a losing battle. She, in turn, a recent widow and never wanting to be ruled by a man again, cannot help her attraction to him either!!
This was so well written and I loved seeing characters from the previous books again. Lots of action and adventure, as well as heated passions, will keep you from wanting to put the book down until it’s finished!
I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I have really enjoyed Mecca’s Order of the Broken Blade series! In this third book, we find Roysa running in the cold from her wicked brother-in-law after he reports her husband has been killed in an accident. But rumor has it that Walter was killed by his brother for sleeping with his brother’s wife, which Roysa has every reason to believe. She arrives at Castle Dromsley where her sister, Idalia, and husband are staying with the Earl, Terric Kennaugh. Roysa has no idea they are part of the Order of the Broken Blade in traitorous rebellion against the English king. The pages flip swiftly as Lord Terric and Lady Roysa both have excellent reasons to scoff at attractive members of the opposite sex but eventually, come to enjoy each others’ company. And Roysa gets a kiss and begins to believe there is pleasure to be found in marriage? But secret missions cause separation and sorrow, and war causes death. Will these two be able to come together in love? A really good story. I can’t wait for the next book from Mecca!
Another great story in the Broken Blade saga. The tale of Terric and Roysa is full of romance, drama, siege, and battles. I received an ARC of this book.
Lord Terric Kennaugh, both the English Earl of Dromsley and Scottish Chief of Clan Kennaugh and part of the Order of the Broken Blade’s rebellion against King John. The last thing Terric wishes for is a guest she widowed Lady Roysa chooses to run to her sister Idalia, who is wintering at Dromsley Castle. She has no idea her sister Idalia and her husband are both a part of the conspiracy against King John. The last thing Terric wants is company but he soon finds himself attracted to her against his better judgement. A war Dromsley Castle is about to become the first battleground and love is a distraction Terric can’t afford. Love knows no boundaries as Terric and Roysa soon learn as their love is tested and the castle prepares for war. An excellent story I loved and I voluntarily wrote a reviews.
Terric is member of the Broken Blade and not only a Lord but chief of his clan. Roysa is recently widowed staying with her sister at Terric’s castle. The members of the Broken Blade are part of a rebellion against King John. Terric wants to keep everyone safe and accomplished his goal against the king and his supporters. He has to keep his mind on the business at hand and has no time for the sassy Lady. He finds out that the kings supporters are on their way to attack his castle and he has a hard time strategizing when all he seems to think about is Roysa.
Talk about bad first impressions-this one did not go so well. It took awhile for Terric and Roysa to know each other and realize their first impression was wrong. I loved the historical part of the story and the descriptions of that time in history. This is has been a great series and can’t wait for the next one.
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion.
A wonderful story full of passion. A Scot named Terric, with vengeance on his mind does not have time to fall in love or marry. But he may change his mind after meeting Roysa, the passionate sister of Terric’s friends wife. Though they try to fight their attraction for many reasons it can’t be held back. With an attack imminent Terric may not have a chance to court the beautiful Roysa. Full of action and passionate embraces this story will keep you wanting more. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Best Series and Book of the Year!!! Another amazing story by Cecelia Mecca. The Scot: A Forbidden Love Medieval Romance is book 3 of the Order of the Broken Blade series and as I said before this series is blowing my mind! Cecelia’s writing just keeps getting better and better and I had to slow down in reading this book as I didn’t want it to end. This creative and imaginative story of enemies to lover is truly a one of a kind and you will read nothing like it, it is that amazing. The banter is so awesome and I have to admit that it is my favorite thing to read in a book. You can’t help but fall in love with our hero, Terric and the heroine Roysa. This story has an abused marriage, mistrust, bad first impressions, a battle, mistrust, politics, family love, brotherhood, treason and falling in love. This is a must read! I also recommend you read books 1 and 2 in this series, The Blacksmith and The Mercenary to get the full story. Believe me you won’t be disappointed.
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
The third book in the Order of the Broken Blade series, The Scot draws the reader in from the opening pages as Lady Roysa receives the news that her despised husband has died. However, the news is delivered in a manner that makes her realise that there is more at stake than she is able to determine. Making a split-second decision, Roysa leaves her home, forfeits her claim to her inheritance, and goes to her sister who is visiting at Dromsley Castle. She has to rethink her choices at her first encounter with the clan Chief, Terric Kennaugh when sparks fly with animosity for one another. Forced into one another’s company in the cold winter months at the Castle, they begin to discover another force at play as anger evolves into attraction. Taking his responsibilities seriously, Terric doesn’t have time to play the courtship game. He has his revenge to plot and his vows to keep, but Roysa keeps unsettling him and making him rethink about what is really important. The story is fast-paced and with the threat of war hanging over them, Terric and his advisers have their hands full preparing his men for battle. The story is a standalone and comes to a victorious ending, but not without some pain and loss. I received a copy of this well-written novel as a gift and this is my honest review.
Lady Roysa is relieved to find herself widowed after only a year of disastrous marriage. Given the foul play she suspects, however, she decides to flee rather than remove herself to her downer lands and seeks safety with her sister, Idalia, at Dromsley Castle. She receives a rude awakening when she arrives and learns that her sister has also been keeping secrets and that she and her husband, along with the lord of Dromsley Castle, are key players in a treasonous rebellion against the King of England.
Lord Terric Kennaugh, both the English Earl of Dromsley and Scottish Chief of Clan Kennaugh, has enough responsibilities to worry about without adding a new guest to the mix. Especially one so beautiful and apparently more concerned with her appearance than the precarious position of the rebellion. While Terric considers himself a Scot more so than an Englishman, the English royal family has wronged his family many times over the years and he longs for revenge above all else. He refuses to be distracted by the beautiful, spoiled newcomer, though he cannot refuse her stay since she considers her sister, Idalia, to be family.
Terric is shocked to find himself thawing toward the noble Lady Roysa but berates himself for his distraction as Dromsley prepares for the first battle in what promises to soon be a full-scale war between the rebels of the Order of the Broken Blade and those loyal to the king. In the midst of such strife it seems impossible for love to have a chance to grow, especially if Terric can’t see past his lifelong quest for revenge.
I really did not care for Roysa at first (and neither did Terric), but she grow on me, especially when she was willing to admit her faults and assumptions and reevaluate her thinking. Terric was a well-drawn dark and broody hero with some surprisingly charming insecurities. Until this point his adult life has been consumed by his need to have revenge on the English royal family and it was nice to see him grow and learn that some things are more important. Roysa was a great match for Terric once she opened herself up to the possibility of happiness.
This book was very fast-paced and the constant threat of danger kept my attention and was also just the wake up call Terric and Roysa needed to come together as they both knew they should be. This was another excellent installment in a series I’ve come to love. I hate to see it ending but now, especially after seeing more of Terric’s sister, Cait, I can’t wait for the next book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was really intrigued by this medieval take on enemies to lovers book. While it is a cliche concept, the growth Terric and Roysa experience through their journey from dislike to love was well crafted. Terric and Roysa both brought out and strengthen the qualities they had lost due to their misfortunes.
I enjoyed that while they did fall in love , neither lost their established personalities, which tends to happen in most books when characters admit their love for each other. This unnecessary event usually throws the whole plot out the window and causes the book to lose substance. Thankfully, that was not the case for Roysa and Terric.
While the orders’ cause is noble, it’s nice to see that they learn they can prevent themselves from being consumed by war. The developed relationships so far have been very entertaining to watch unfold. Can’t wait to see what is in store for The Earl.
Book 3 of the Order of the Broken Blade is another great read by Cecelia Mecca. It’s the story for the 3rd member of the Order of the Broken Blade and has two people falling in love after initially hating each other. I do really like the the enemies to lovers troupe. Terric and Lady Roysa are well matched even if they had a shaky start. I’m loving this new series (can it still be new after 3 books?) and hate to think that it will be over after the next book, the fourth and final original member of the Order. Perhaps we will get more from Ms. Mecca on some peripheral characters????
Even though Lady Roysa found out very soon after her marriage that what she thought was love, wasn’t, she is unprepared to be a widow. Especially as she suspects that her husband’s brother has evil intentions. Her father is too far away to rescue her so she must go to her sister.
Terric Kennaugh is an Earl in England and a Laird in Scotland, but all he has time for at the moment is the Order of the Broken Blade and it’s cause. The last thing he needs is a guest who throws tantrums over a ruined dress.
There is a lot of danger and secrets around our characters. With treason against the King and never knowing just who is on which side in the fight, we can enjoy an exciting story. The characters have all got strength, bravery and love for their families.
This is the third book in the series and while you could quite easily enjoy this book on it’s own the series is best read in order.
Great fun.
Absolutely scrumptious. Everything this author writes is magic and The Scot just became my favorite. Yes I say that about every story Cecelia Mecca writes, but what can I say? Her imagination is endless and she knows exactly what her readers wants. She makes you feel you are there in medieval times with the characters, her descriptions are so vivid and the dialogue flows so smoothly.
A widow desperate to escape her brother in law, after her cruel husband dies, she rides to Dromsley Castle to find her sister, and into the world of Terric, one of the Order of the Broken Blade. She instantly dislikes him with his frown of disapproval and judgment as she demands to enter the castle.
She is happy to be reunited with her sister but anxious when she finds out they are all in danger.
There is a lot at stake with the rebellion against the King and worry if he will strike those against him. So everyone is preparing for battle and a lot is at stake.
I loved Terric and Roysa and could not stop reading until the end to see what would happen.
Another exciting tale from a master storyteller that will keep you in it’s grip until the end and long after. Perfect.
I really have enjoyed this series, and the latest entry is no different. The author has woven together a well written book, that comes alive with intrigue, antagonism, danger, attraction and love. The characters are compelling, intelligent, stalwart in their mission, protective and loving. Looking forward to reading the next book.
The Rebellion Escalates!!
Roysa is newly widowed. But cannot mourn the man who was her husband. Unfortunately, her life is now in jeopardy, so she travels to be with her sister Idalia.
Stopped at the gate, Roysa is bedraggled and weary. She is approached by a “brute” on a stallion and imperiously demands entry. Terric, Earl of Dromsley and chief of Clan Kennaugh cannot see the resemblance between the sisters; Idalia is warm and kind where Roysa is just the sort of women he avoids.
A rebellion becomes more real, and a romance builds. Neither want permanence, but Roysa has never found pleasure and she is sure Terric is just the man to teach her. A fabulous read as this exciting Order of the Broken Blade series continues!!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
The Order of the Broken Blade is back with more romance, danger and treasonous acts in there quest to stop King John.
Lady Roysa a new widow is fleeing from her husband’s family his brother is up to something she has know intentions of claming her husbands inheritance and forget about the brother she actually never liked her husband anyway. Her sister is at Dromsley Castle on border of Scotland and England surely she will be safe there. What she doesn’t know is that there lots of secrets at Dromsley Castle can she keep them.
Terric Kennaugh rule’s Dromsley and is a member of the Broken Blade and he cant wait to have vengeance against the English and one attraction but infuriating fashion plate could ruin everything. They both have ideas about each other but there love can change all that they just have too beat King James and stay safe.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I love this series! This book is a great addition. Terric and Roysa are well-written, strong, and loveable characters. The book was interesting enough that I could not put it down. I liked them immediately and was thrilled that Lance and Idalia were present in this book. Rory and Cait were a nice surprise and I look forward to the next book in the series. I have a feeling that Cait will play a major role in Conrad’s book.
The Scot by Cecelia Mecca is book Three in the Order of the Broken Blade Series. This is the story of Roysa and Terric. I have read (and Loved!) the previous books and I do feel that added to my enjoyment of this one but you could make it a standalone if you wish to do so. Roysa has come to her sister and her brother-in-law to stay. Roysa finds her sister staying at Dromsley Castle there she meets Terric. They start off on the wrong foot and with a somewhat misunderstanding of each other.
Terric can’t send her away but Terric is a part of the rebellion that is going against King John. So Roysa has walked into danger too. Roysa is a young widower now whose husband was cruel and abusive so deep down she is a strong person. The more time that Terric and Roysa sending getting to know the other the more that their attraction is turning into more.
Another great and exciting read by one of my favorite authors!
This is the third book and great addition to the series. The author once again does an awesome job bringing her story to life and taking you back to the time period with her descriptive writing and vividly painted scenes. The characters are strong, well developed and the story has intrigue, action and romance. It moved fluidly and had me glued to the pages right to the end. I’m loving this series! I highly recommend this book/series.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
4.5 Stars
A widow after only one year of marriage, Lady Roysa chooses to run to her younger sister Idalia, who is wintering at Dromsley Castle, rather than retreat to the property granted to her. When she arrives she not only meets the arrogant cold Earl Terric Kennaugh but learns that they are part of a rebellion against King John. The last thing Terric Kennaugh wishes for is a guest, he may be more of a Scot than an Englishman, but the English royals have a long history of doing his family wrong.
Dromsley Castle is about to become the first battleground in what promises to be an all-out war between the king’s men and the Order.
This is the third book in this wonderful series, it could be read on its own but to fully appreciate it I’d recommend reading the series in order. Another very well written book featuring strong characters who had plenty of depth. The pace never lags & I was drawn in from the start & gripped until the end. I loved how Terric & Roysa took an immediate dislike of each other as they were too intent on drawing on past experiences even though there was an instant physical attraction. However the more time they spent together the more they both realised first impressions can be deceiving. I also loved the underlying tensions, which have been building throughout the series. There were a couple of unresolved issues regarding Roysa’s brother in law – I wanted him to have his comeuppance. I’m now looking forward to the final book in the series.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
