Action packed and so immersive. I adored the heroine and the relationships between the characters. I cannot wait to read the next in the series.
When I saw the book was titled Scorpion Lullaby, I knew I had to read it. It is one of those books that leave a lasting impression on one. The storyline is remarkable and so inspiring! I loved the French phrases throughout but most if all I truly loved both Joella and Marc. They are completely different in there beliefs, yet are forced together when the mists attack. I found their journey compelling and boy oh boy, did they have a lot to overcome! Captured not once but twice, they manage to escape but Joella’s entire existence has her questioning her motives. As she realises how selfish and deceitful people are, and through the aid of the book she initially stole from Marc, she gains a new perspective. In their time together, Joella and Marc get closer. I know it’s not a love story, but then again, it is! A beautifully crafted one, without the soppiness. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a well paced, well written book. It had me glued to my kindle
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review
Wow! If you’re like me and love books entrenched in mythology and unique creatures, this is a book you need to pick up. I’ve read Juliet’s Blood, Flesh, Bone series and this standalone is just as spectacular!
I loved every moment of this imaginative work. It’s a fully immersive fantasy world with its own belief system, and tons of fantasy creatures (gigantic scorpions that the Scorpion Raiders ride upon, and several ape-like creatures) and even imaginative vegetation choking the jungle. It reminded me of Uprooted by Naomi Novik (she had evil trees that were choking out the forest in that, too). It also reminded me of Reign of Shadows by Sophie Jordan (the traveling through the hazardous wood, meeting odd villages and people along the way who might be friend or foe). I did love how each village they came upon had different beliefs in how to worship Beline, and the different customs and festivals (I also loved the different tales of Beline spun in the relic, which were all magical and mythic, though still rooted within the created jungle world and tied the story together, leading into events). And all of the personalities of the people were vastly different (even with Joella and Marc both being strong and stubborn and determined, there were plenty of differences in their personalities), bringing them to life. And, yes, I loved the budding romance. There were plenty of twists, and plenty of adventure, and even a mystery, and Joella created both friends and enemies along the way, and learned and grew as a character along the way. Though there were a lot of morals and criticisms against certain customs and values, it didn’t feel overly preachy. I would love to see the author bring more of this sort of immersive story alive.
I would highly recommend this book. This story is full of wonderful characters with both the main female and male characters being both strong and likeable. There is great twists and turns you don’t see coming and it certainly doesn’t end how you expect it to. It is hard to put down once you start reading it.
This is a beautiful story. Juliet is a masterful storyteller. I felt as if I was a part of the story, feeling fear, love, and every other emotion all through the book. I really hope there is more to this story.
Joella is a member of the scorpion raiders who travel the jungle robing and raiding villages while riding on the backs of scorpion dragons. Joella has been a part of the scorpion raiders since she was a little girl.
Joella and her gang are out one day robing a group of people when the mist rolls in. There is something dangerous in the mist that changes people and makes them forget who they are leaving them dangerous and murderous. Joella is separated from her tribe while trying to outrun the mist.
After outrunning the mist Joella finds herself in the company of a guy named Marc who was a member of the tribe they were raiding. Marc and Joella team up together while looking for their own tribes. On their journey, they run into some very dangerous people.
Can Joella and Marc make their escape before it is too late? Will they ever find their tribes? Will their tribes find them?
The Scorpion’s Lullaby is a fast-paced read that will grab your attention from the first word leaving you wanting more. While I was reading The Scorpion’s Lullaby I felt all kinds of emotions one minute I would be laughing and the next I would be sad or crying and cheering for Joella and Marc hoping they would make it out alive and everything would be ok again. Joella and Marc took me on a wonderful magical journey with lots of action if it wasn’t the mist then it was other people from the different villages.
I read Juliet Vane’s Haunted Halls: Winter’s Cavern trilogy and loved it so when I was introduced to The Scorpion’s Lullaby I just had to read. Juliet has a way with words that makes the characters and their stories come alive.
If you like fantasy and young love then you are going to love The Scorpion’s Lullaby.
