This book was well written and had a great plot that kept the reader invested in the story. You are sucked into the book and it has you turning the pages quickly to discover what will happen next.
The down side to the book is that it is the same story recently published with just a few new tweaks. Lucinda/Lucy’s life is fraught with ups and downs, tough decisions, and unbelievable drama. There is a lot of edge-of-your-seat anxiety and times you are so angry at some of the characters, that you can feel steam blowing out of your ears. But Lucinda/Lucy makes some bad decisions and it will bite her in the butt!
I have enjoyed Allison James books in the past, but this one wasn’t one of my favorites.
I appreciate the opportunity from NetGalley to receive an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Fast paced page turner about the past and present life of Lucy and Adele, two childhood friends with a pact that must be kept. When Lucy tries to get away from an abusive marriage her whole life threatens to fall apart. Great writing and nail biting twists.
The Friendship Pact by author Alison James is suspenseful and kept my interest from beginning until the ending. The story is well written, but I did not like the main characters. Lucy Gibson is so emotionally naive for a person of her intelligence until I felt aggravated at the choices she made. I do not want to post spoilers, so I will make a few brief comments. I understand Lucy being influenced and the peer pressure during childhood by a friend who is essentially a bully. Later when Lucy as an adult seeks out Adele for help after all the years of estrangement, I knew there were more problems to come. Lucy let herself become a victim over and over in her friendships and interactions with Marcus, Adele, and Denny/Jason. Secrets, lies, and murder all intertwine to bind Lucy and Adele into a friendship pact which later will cause more trouble than they ever dreamed!
Book is being called a ‘psychological thriller’ but this was sadly lacking for me. The characters were unlikeable, and the storyline was predictable. The writing itself was good, and it was a fast read. First book I’ve read by this author, and I would give her one more try.
Lucy is a good kid, teacher’s pet, high achieving type girl. She meets Adele, her opposite, on the first day of middle school, and this leads to an unlikely friendship. Story is told in three parts; early friendship where the friendship pact is made, Lucy’s abusive marriage, and after.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.
If you love psychological thrillers, this is the book for you.
It starts out with the friendship of Lucy and Adele and how one moment as children will change their lives and they are forever bound by a pact.
Don’t want to say too much about this book but I will tell you that I thought I had it all figured out. I might have been a bit close but thats it.
A whirlwind of a ride, couldn’t put The Friendship Pact down. Get your copy !!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a great read !!
The Friendship Pack is a standalone thriller. Told in three parts. The story line was well developed and the twists were amazing. Overall it is a very well written book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish for the most part. Some of the flash backs seemed to come at odd times. It started out with a bang then got kind of slow before picking back up again.
So stick with it. The characters are strong and well developed. This is a well thought-out book that will keep the reader on their seat and even make him feel part of the plot. The ending had a definite twist to it . I totally did not see the twist at the end coming at all.
A quick paced psychological thriller where the past comes back to haunt. For one year a long time ago Lucy and Adele were best friends – according to Adele. A tragedy occurs and the two pledge to keep the secret. A happenstance siting many years later leads to a series of twists that will keep you reading into the wee hours.
