Scene Stealer (noun): an actor who attracts attention when another is intended to be the center of attention. The glow of fame only casts shadows. The name Devyn Dane was once lit up amongst the stars. Everyone worshiped me. But now, I’m on the edge of darkness. No one warned me about the fall. My crash was lethal. These days I’m nothing more than a forgotten child-star with a tainted reputation. … reputation.
Redemption is what I need. When a chance is handed to me, I vow not to blow it—I can’t. This could launch me back to stardom. But nothing is given freely in Hollywood. Everything comes with a price. This time, mine is a bombshell waitress battling insecurities deep enough to rival even my own.
The resilient Larsen is a mystery I can’t wait to unravel. Her brokenness makes me feel not so alone. But together, we are a complete mess that should never work. I know it, Hollywood knows it, and someone is Hell-bent on making sure we don’t beat the odds.
I truly believed she was my ally. An added boost on my rise back to fame. But the shine of Hollywood masks many things. She broke my focus, pulling me away from the most important goal.
That’s the thing with a scene stealer – you never see them coming.

Who wouldn’t want to go on a date with a famous and sexy movie star? Isn’t that every young girl’s dream?
When Devyn abruptly left Lake Tahoe in his new Porsche, he just wanted to get away and clear his head. He could never have imagined that his trip would lead him to a quaint and magical place that would hold the key to his future. He was fascinated by Larsen from the minute he walked through the door of the diner. He sensed she was shy because she kept to herself in the kitchen, only giving him shy glances when she thought he wasn’t looking. No matter what happened, he knew for certain that he had to spend time with her before the bright lights of Hollywood took him away.
Larsen didn’t have many friends, and she shied away from social situations and was always nervous around new people. Devyn was the exception. He was kind, honest and of course, unbelievably handsome. She trusted him right away, and had no idea why. He made her smile and feel light hearted again, which made her hopeful for the future. When he asked her on a date, she immediately said yes, which was so out of character for her. What could possibly happen on an innocent bowling date? Little did Larsen know that her life would never be the same, because the magnetic pull between her and Devyn was impenetrable and impossible to deny.
This is a lovely story. Filled with self doubt and possible heartbreak. I enjoyed these characters. Larson is amazing! I love her ethics. Devyn is trying to improve himself to get back into the hearts of his fans. He is always trying to do the right thing but it seems to turn out wrong. This has great secondary characters as well. I did listen to this on audio. Tim Paige did a great job. This is my first time listening to him and he is easy to listen to. Kelsey Navarro is always a joy and did a great job as well.
I received this book in a book box subscription, and man am I glad I did! This book was so fun to read. Yes it’s a bit tragic with some back stories, but it’s a beautiful love story between Larsen and Devyn. Devyn is a washed up actor trying to make a comeback, who finds himself in small town america where he meets Larsen, a quiet girl who hides her past from everyone. Devyn finds away to bring out the best in her but before you know it he’s pulled away to get to a movie set. Will they overcome their different lifestyles. Read this book to find out! You won’t regret it
*review for audible version* I really loved this story. It flowed perfectly. Devyn is this pained by his past man who’s sprung with an opportunity to change everything for what he truly believes that he wants. Then comes Larsen, sweet, small town girl with hopes and dreams to overcome the tragedy of her past. She struggles with her self-esteem and worth. Devyn and Larsen meet by chance and then starts the roller coaster of emotions of their journey together. Can they survive it? I sure loved finding out what happens and I know you will too!
4.5 Touching and Emotional Stars!
It is so much fun discovering new authors, and I loved this journey that Harless took me on! This story had a little of everything that kept me riveted right from the very start. Devyn and Larsen come from totally different worlds but are on the same journey. They both suffered loss and betrayal and are trying to make a better life for themselves. Larsen by working hard to run her family businesses in her small town and also going to nursing school. Devyn is a recovering addict and has the chance at the acting role of a lifetime. They meet unexpectedly when Devyn’s car breaks down in Larsen’s little town. Devyn is intrigued by the quiet beauty and loves that she doesn’t care about his celebrity. They connect on so many levels, relating to each other’s fears and brokenness. They are so sweet together and they have such fiery passion. But when Devyn must leave for filming, it is hard to stay connected when others in their intrusive world try to break them apart. This was such a roller coaster ride of emotions, and the twists their story takes only picks up speed and makes it more suspenseful! Narrators Tim Paige, and Kelsey Navarro did a great job bringing this story to life. They portrayed both Devyn and Larsen with all their strengths and vulnerabilities so beautifully that I was easily lost in their performance.
We all have scars, some are visible and others are not. Pain is something that we have all suffered through in one way or another. For Larsen, her pain and scars are visible to the world and she is desperately trying to blend in and not have anyone see them. Devyn, is working his way back into the hearts of Hollywood. On the outside, Devyn appears put together but what lies beneath the surface are deep emotional wounds that have left him broken and shattered. Devyn’s preferred method of chasing away his demons is by drinking them away but if he wants to make a career for himself he must give up drinking once and for all.
A chance encounter, lands Devyn in Larsen’s charming small town, where he quickly forms a beautiful bond with Larsen. Devyn doesn’t see a broken woman in Larsen or her scars, instead what he see’s is a strong and beautiful woman who can conquer anything she sets her mind to.
It was beautiful watching Larsen come out of her shell throughout the book. She was a lot stronger than she ever gave herself credit for and I really enjoyed her character growth throughout the novel. I also really enjoyed the sweet and tender moments between Devyn and Larsen. You would think that Devyn is this big shot guy who doesn’t care about other people’s feelings but he is actually a gentle and caring soul, who has been through his share of heartbreak.
This story has it all! An outstanding storyline that will keep you on the edge of your seat, character growth, swoon worthy romance and characters that will stay with you for a lifetime. I highly recommend this book.
Sexy, steamy, and romantic!
With this one I had a slow start. I wasn’t feeling it but somewhere between 17% and 21% I fell in love with the characters. Devyn is an actor. He has had a not so good past. He’s escaping thing when his car dies on the side of the road. He ends up in small town, it’s there he meets Larsen.
Larsen is shy and keeps to herself because she has also had a not to good past. These two characters have many layers and things to overcome. These two seem like opposites but they are really good for each. Beside the romance there also a mystery going on because Larsen is getting threatening letters. I kind of thought I had figured out who was sending the letters but I was wrong and I loved that the story wasn’t predictable.
The scene stealer has all the feels Devyn is an child actor who finds himself trying to make his way back into the hollow wood scene a recovering alcoholic and runs away from the parents who took advantage of him when he was little he ends up in Colorado and meets Larsen a waitress in her uncles diner who has had a heartbreaking childhood. They have an instant connection but it’s not that simple. They are what the other needs to heal their broken past. This is a great story I recommend it.
I received a review copy for a honest review
Who are Devyn and Larsen? How do they meet? Where do we find each of them starting at? By the end of the second chapter, I found some similarities in the lives of both of them. What were they? Who are Tessa, Quinn, and Elena? How does Devyn know them? Who is Michael? When Devyn’s car breaks down, what happens? When Larsen starts getting letters, what do they say? The trials and tribulations that the characters went through really showed me their humanity, for all of them. I hope to read more by this author!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
A sweet unforeseen love story. A fallen child star meets a small town closed off waitress seemingly by chance. Each with their own burdens they seem to be drawn to each other seeing only what is evident to their own eyes, their hearts.
“She’s not only stunning on the outside, but she is on the inside as well. A true diamond in the rough but hides behind the jagged scars that she feels hold her back. They do little to detract from her exquisiteness.”0
Despite their challenges, their perceived flaws and perspectives, their priorities change to meet the reality of where they are meant to be with their undeniable love.
An enjoyable read!
Really enjoyable read, Devyn and Larsen were both damaged characters but were trying to overcome their pasts in their own ways. A great read with a touch of drama and some heat, would recommend if you love insta romance reads.
Okay, I was not expecting what I got. That is for sure. But, what I got was not a bad thing. I went into this so blind. I’ve been discovering some amazing new authors lately, and Renee Harless is one of them.
The Scene Stealer is about Devyn and Larsen and their emotional ride, and let me say now… It’s pretty emotional. Well, I thought it was. there were things in this book that hit home for me and had me stepping away for a moment to collect myself.
These two meet in an adoption home, and from the moment they met they hit it off. These two have been through the wringer when it comes to life, and they are only young… Devyn having an addiction, dealing with self-loathing, self-doubt, pain and drama within his family life, and Larsen is going with the motions when it comes to life…She’s simply just existing for everyone else’s needs but her own. Constantly putting others before her… and when these two cross each other. It’s like they’ve known each other a lifetime, the connect instantly, two broken pieces to a jaded jigsaw puzzle, to broken souls come together, and it is both beautiful to read and tragic… I could clearly see these two were meant to be from the very start. But living in two different kinds of worlds is becoming something that may keep them from being with one another… Will they be able to fight the difference in their worlds? Will they get their happy ending they deserve? Or will it be too much and tear them away from each other.
As I said above, I went into this book blind and holy crap… What a ride. It had ALL THE FEELS. My heart broke for these two. Having gone through so much only to go through more while trying to reach for that happy ending that we all long for in life. This touched my heart.
The authors’ ability to grab at my heartstrings and attention and keep hold all the way through had me flipping page by page till 5 am in the morning, devouring this bad boy!
If I could rate it more than 5 Stars I would!
The Scene Stealer was a fantastic book. One of those ones you just can’t put down. This book was very different from what I have read before Renee Harless, but a good different.
This book was about two lost souls, not realizing that they were both looking for the other. Devyn Dane was a child actor & Larsen was a small town girl. By chance they meet, but being from two different places, two different sides of the track, can they keep it together & really make it work? Pick up a copy of this great book to find out. It is well worth the read.
Wow where do I begin with this story?? It was such a beautiful story! It is about two people who struggle with their pasts and have a hard time overcoming it. Devyn was a struggling actor who was trying to fix his bad bad reputation. He gets a huge part in a movie but has to stop partying and look like a good man! He is determined to be the person they want him to be but also he struggles just for a drink he shouldn’t have. Larsen she is this shy but also a caregiving woman. She struggles of what happened with her past. She in her eyes isnt the prettiest woman because something tragic happened in her past so she hides in her shell because shes to scared to be around people and for them to look at her wrongly. Then just then Devyn walks in her life and changes everything. It also had some suspense in there that I loved, overall it was such a delight to read and you must read this book!
I really enjoyed this book.
I struggled to put it down.
I have read most of Renee’s books and enjoyed all of them.
Will be recommending this book too
Loved it. The storyline flow good which make it easy to read in one sitting.
Devyn and Larsen….. my new favorites from Renee Harless.
Devyn is a former child actor trying to make his way back into Hollywood. Larsen, a nursing student , helps her uncle out in a diner, she is a quiet shy girl with a haunting past. When these two meet, they seem perfect for each other. Until Devyn catches a big break that pulls him away. Is there someone trying to come between them? Will their pasts come in between them? Will they get back together? You really need to read this book….
Broken small town girl meets hot movie star, YES PLEASE! I didn’t want to put this book down. I mean who doesn’t want to come across a hot movie star, it’s the ultimate fantasy. Devyn and Larsen are both broken, and they are both just what the other needs to be pieced back together.
I loved this book, and as always with Renee’s books, I want more.
4 1/2 STARS FOR THE SCENE STEALER!! This story had all the feels and kept me turning pages. Devyn and Larsen are both broken in different ways, but they need each other and will touch your heart. This is my first book by this author and it was great. I can’t wait to read more by her.
