The New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling author of The Keeper of Lost Causes delivers his most captivating and suspenseful Department Q novel yet—perfect for fans of Stieg Larsson. Detective Carl Mørck of Department Q, Copenhagen’s cold cases division, meets his toughest challenge yet when the dark, troubled past of one of his own team members collides with a sinister unsolved … members collides with a sinister unsolved murder.
In a Copenhagen park the body of an elderly woman is discovered. The case bears a striking resemblance to another unsolved homicide investigation from over a decade ago, but the connection between the two victims confounds the police. Across town a group of young women are being hunted. The attacks seem random, but could these brutal acts of violence be related? Detective Carl Mørck of Department Q is charged with solving the mystery.
Back at headquarters, Carl and his team are under pressure to deliver results: failure to meet his superiors’ expectations will mean the end of Department Q. Solving the case, however, is not their only concern. After an earlier breakdown, their colleague Rose is still struggling to deal with the reemergence of her past—a past in which a terrible crime may have been committed. It is up to Carl, Assad, and Gordon to uncover the dark and violent truth at the heart of Rose’s childhood before it is too late.

Classic Adler-Olsen, a delightfully chilling return to Department Q. If you’re Danish in your heart, but you can’t yet spring for a ticket to Denmark, you could do worse than to walk the streets of Copenhagen with Detective Morck. Personal note: I read this book after traveling to Denmark for the Danish Crime Book Festival in Faengslet Prison!
Did not like it–too confusing, old murders, current murders-extraneous events-irrelevant to plot-sorry I started it–forced self to finish but miserable the entire time……..
Not a bad read, but not interesting enough that I would buy other books by this author.
This glum book wants to be noir, but it’s just unpleasant. Don’t fall for it.
Love this series!
I liked other books in the series better.
Don’t bother with this one. It is a total waste of time. I gave up on it about half way through concluding it was not worth my time.
I love this whole series. Great plots, interesting characters, and well written.
Wonderful characters. Sharp prose. Surprising plot.
Slow and unbelievable
I love the Department Q books. Even watched the movies on Netflix with the subtitles. If you like procedurals, you’ll like these.
Fast paced, riveting, loved it, a real page turner. I highly recommend this author, I’m so glad I found him.
Enjoyable read
Not my favorite but the author is always worth reading. I found the dual plots a little strange at first but it got better as it went along.
I love his books, but he doesn’t release them fast enough.
Excellent author
The Keeper of Lost Causes was an exceptional thriller so I was prepared to love this Dept. Q book. Sadly, for me it did not measure up.
well written mystery
I love the Department Q books. Wonderful plots, characters and rather entertaining and fun.
Excellent, as always!
