In this provocative thriller, forensic expert Kay Scarpetta is surrounded by familiar faces, yet traveling down the unfamiliar road of fame….It is the week before Christmas. A tanking economy has prompted Dr. Kay Scarpetta—despite her busy schedule and her continuing work as the senior forensic analyst for CNN—to offer her services pro bono to New York City’s Office of the Chief Medical … Chief Medical Examiner. In no time at all, her increased visibility seems to precipitate a string of unexpected and unsettling events, culminating in an ominous package—possibly a bomb—showing up at the front desk of the apartment building where she and her husband, Benton, live. Soon the apparent threat on Scarpetta’s life finds her embroiled in a surreal plot that includes a famous actor accused of an unthinkable sex crime and the disappearance of a beautiful millionaire with whom her niece, Lucy, seems to have shared a secret past.
Scarpetta’s CNN producer wants her to launch a TV show called The Scarpetta Factor. Given the bizarre events already in play, she fears that her growing fame will generate the illusion that she has a “special factor,” a mythical ability to solve all her cases. She wonders if she will end up like other TV personalities: her own stereotype.

I have read a number of Patricia Cornwell’s Dr Kay Scarpetta novels in the past, but not in recent years. However, “The Scarpetta Factor” brought me up to date with her marriage to Benton Wesley, her niece Lucy, Marino and other stalwarts from previous books.
The author weaves a complex web of seemingly unrelated plots into yet another compulsive thriller.
I applaud her once again.
I love all the Scarpetta books.
Yet again a wonderfully written book with enough twist and turns to keep you reading with anticipation till the last page is turned.
This was my first scarpetta book and now I have gone back and binge read all of them up to 2013’s Dust, what a great series!
Most all scarpetta books awesome I love the fast moving pace of the books as well the characters!
Love the Scarpetta books!
Cornwell’s books are always entertaining. Her characters are well drawn and interesting.
Always like the Scarpetta Novels..
I became sick of Scarpetta years ago. It seems Cornwell continues to write these books for tax deductions — flying lessons, diving lessons, shooting lessons …. The good sense of Kay Scarpetta and Pete Marino before she became wealthy and he became a motorcyclist were so much more interesting.
Love it Patrica Cornwell never lets you down
Not one of her best but a good read.
Patricia Cornwell has made Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her motley gang seem like old friends to fans of the series, this reader included.
Great story line. Kept my interest throughout.
Love all Scarpetta novels until depraved heart.
I enjoy Ms. Cornwell’s Scarpetta series. I feel like I know the characters well enough to pick up my phone and call them.
Patricia Cornwells books are all page turners.
