Travis McGee is too busy with his houseboat to pay attention to the little old man with the missing postage stamps. Except these are no ordinary stamps. They are rare stamps. Four hundred thousand dollars worth of rare. And if McGee doesn’t recognize their value, perhaps Mary Alice McDermit does, a six-foot knockout who knows all the ways to a boat bum’s heart. Only it’s not McGee’s heart that’s … that’s in danger. Because a syndicate killer has put a contract on McGee. A killer who knows something about stamps . . . and even more about McGee.

Great Series. Highly recommend.
Adventure interspersed with philosophy … who could ask for more
Every Travis McGee book by John D McDonald is superb. As is this one. It’s vintage McGee. A peek into the 1960’s, but themes which are very very current. Bad guys that are very scary, strong plot lines and always unexpected endings. Great book. I’ve read all his McGee novels, several times over and they never fail to entertain and please.
Travis McGee, enough said.
love the travis mcgee series
A typical Travis McGee novel. Told in the first person so you get all of his thoughts but you only see what he sees. Plus 1970s Florida, of course. You can’t beat that. Each of these is just different enough to keep you turning the pages.
This was fairly tedious to get through and my least favorite of the Travis McGee books. It tries very hard to be clever and philosophical, but gets bogged done in a sea if words that bore. I learned more about stamps than I ever cared to know. I kept finding my attention waning during especially long-winded passages. The whole cast of characters in this mystery were just plain irritating and it was never believable that Travis would be interested in Mary Alice for more than a second. The only character that I would have enjoyed more time with is Meyer. Skip this one.
Travis McGee, a classic noir character…..
Loved this series when I was younger. Now I’m a bit put off by all the windy moralizing, however much I might agree with it. Slows the plot down.
The entire Travis McGee series is fun to read. I’ve read them more than once.
I love Travis McGee, and I haven’t seen him for years. Very entertaining a and informative regarding about stamp collecfing
I’ve read every Travis McGee novel at least twice. Repeating a John D McDonald book is still a great read.
