A Dom with trust issues and a submissive pretending to be something she’s not… what could possibly go wrong? After years of reading hot books but never doing, Angel is finally ready to explore her fantasies in real life. The only problem? She’ll have to learn the ropes at a local BDSM club all alone. Adopting a false Domme persona, Angel goes a little farther afield to dip her toes into the … farther afield to dip her toes into the water of BDSM; with the local club Stronghold being her eventual goal when she’s ready to take the plunge as a submissive. But there’s an unexpected complication: on her first night at Chained, the club where she’s chosen to get her feet wet, she finds herself irresistibly attracted to one of the true Doms.
Master Adam’s looking for a submissive, not another dominant. When his path crosses with “Angela’s” at Chained, he’s disappointed when she introduces herself as ‘Mistress’. It’s a perfectly ordinary encounter, but days later Adam still can’t get “Angela” out of his head.
And when the two reconnect at Stronghold without any pretense, their first scene together is nothing less than explosive.
Not for the faint of heart, The Sassy Submissive contains scorching hot scenes for mature adults ready to play. The Stronghold Series is a spin-off from Golden Angel’s much-loved Venus Rising Quartet, but it is not necessary to read the Quartet in order to enjoy the Stronghold books. The Sassy Submissive, book one in The Stronghold Doms Series, may also be read an enjoyed as a standalone.

A sweet, ‘sassy’ story of one woman’s voyage to discover her submissive self…
So many stories about BDSM, especially where the submissive is new to the lifestyle, start with the conceit that the experienced SuperDom ™ must guide them toward the discovery of their ‘true desires.’ Often this is because he has an innate sense of what they truly want in all things, and the submissive simply required their strong, guiding hand to lead them to the sexual watering hole of their deepest needs.
So it can be incredibly refreshing to find that book where there really isn’t a SuperDom ™, or a meek, confused, inane submissive who barely knows what he/she needs to tap into their sexuality, much less have any agency in it. That was what I loved and found r so enjoyable about The Sassy Submissive.
Angel knows what she wants. Hell, she’s got an actual GD plan to get to it. And it isn’t some half-assed idea; she’s really thought this through. She runs into Adam, and of course—as the old saying goes—the best laid plans of mice and men…
I freely admit I have a real weakness for strong, intelligent women. A writer who understands that a submissive can be type A AND also want to give up a certain amount of control at times (bedroom or outside of it, sexual or no), always grabs my attention and reels me in. That is definitely what happened as I read this book. Angel is no shirking violet. She HAS a ton of agency in her sexuality and will handle discovering aspects of it that intrigue her on HER terms only. In finding Adam, she discovers not a mega-millionaire bad boy ultra-Dom, but a real human being with foibles of her own, but who is willing to be a partner with her on her journey to decide if being a submissive IS truly what she’s been looking for.
These are real people. Not caricatures. Not cardboard cut-outs. Their mistakes, their frustrations, their desires, their jealousies, and their humanity shine through on every page. The situations they deal with ring with authenticity that suggests more biographical experience than pure fiction. Whether that is true or not I have no idea, but if not, it simply points out how skilled this author is in addressing the subject matter in this story.
There are a few places where the writing style is a little stilted: repetitive use of the same word in a paragraph, or repeating of the same information very close together, that may have been stylistic choice which when they happen sometimes pull you out of the narrative for a moment. However, this is a minor quibble, and in no way detracts from the greater impact of the story overall.
If you want to read a story that will really give you some insight what it can be like for a submissive beginning their journey to find themselves in the world of BDSM, you could do no better than the Sassy Submissive.
And who knows what you may discover about yourself along the way.
4.5 stars
I really enjoyed Adam and Angel’s story, it’s a long read but this allowed us to have plenty of story to go with the amazingly steamy BDSM scenes. I loved the dynamic between the couple, even when their own insecurities and issues started to claw away at them, they didn’t allow this to build up into silly misunderstandings based on not talking. Their connection was undeniable and I totally believed in their chemistry. Despite their initial strong attraction, their relationship never felt rushed and we didn’t get ridiculous declarations of love within a few days of them meeting.
Angel made me smile with so many of her comments, especially during negotiations for and then during scenes. I frequently wanted to high five her, she often responded with exactly the thoughts that were running through my brain. It made my day that here was a submissive who was going to disagree when she felt the need.
I also liked how the big moody alpha Dom had an insecure streak and acknowledged that he wasn’t ‘Mr Perfect and Always Right’. Nothing annoys me more than characters that are too perfect or too overbearing, so it was easy to adore both Adam and Angel.
The book also does a lot of world building for the Stronghold club and it’s members. I think this is part of why this was a long story, we were getting to know Adam and Angel’s friends just as much as we got to know this pair. Not only do I now want to read the rest of the series and the ones this is a spin-off from, I also own the next two books and will be reading them asap.
Golden Angel did a great job with the storyline!! It was very well written! It kept you hooked and wanting to know what was going to happen next!! You can help but fall in love with the characters!! I would definitely recommend this book!!
Good book liked it a lot.
This is the first book by author Golden Angel that I have read. I enjoyed how she brought together many characters and wrote a great story on how their lives intertwined. I enjoyed reading about Stronghold and its dynamic. Adam and Angel’s scenes were hot! Looking forward to reading more of the series!
This was the first story i’ve read by Golden Angel and i have to say it makes me want to read more. Because the people i met,the group of friends that are members of Stronghold, are really great!
I loved Angel and how she kept Adam off balance from the moment they met. Wanting to explore the BDSM lifestyle, she decides to go to a new club that’s far enough from home. And,as she has to do this alone, she goes dressed as a Domme. Adam and a few friends want to see the club that just opened and when he sees Angel,he’s the only one that has doubts about her being a Domme. When she comes to Stronghold as a sub,he’s angry at first, but when he gets to know her better……They were just so good together,i love them!
I discovered Golden Angel when I read the Stocking Stuffers compilation of novellas. This made me want to read Stronghold. And now I’m hooked! I loved Adam and Angel together. I want to know about all of the people in the friends group from Stronghold! Reading more next. 4 stars!
An exciting and fascinating story. I loved Angel and Adam’s characters and their personalities and qualities they each brought to the story. The secondary characters were a great addition as well. A fantastic read from start to finish and one I highly recommend.
This book has it all.
The start of it all. A challenging look into the real life beam world and the people who populate it. Strong men and women who seek their pleasure on their own terms. Beautifully done.
First book in the Stronghold series & what a way to start. I know that the series has finished, but I’ve only just read this book, & while I have read a few others in the series, they definitely weren’t read in order. That being the case, I can say that I had no problem reading this as a standalone story – basically because it is. Yes, the same characters flow through the series, but each couple gets their own story, & this belongs to Adam & Angel. It was great! The characters were interesting & fun, the settings were enjoyable & great to read. The storyline flowed nicely with a nice pace that kept me interested to the point that it was always ‘just one more chapter’! This book had a nice amount of heat to it but also had some genuinely chuckleworthy passages as well, especially when some of the other characters were included. The only reason for 4 stars & not 5 is that I found the inclusion of all the characters very close together kept me off balance for a bit & I had to work at keeping them all straight. However, given that I quite often find this when I start a series, regardless of the author, that’s probably more me than the writing.
I listened to the audio version of this book. I listen to a lot of books and there are times when I just can’t go much past the first half hour. Well that’s not the case here. I love this story. I’ve only read one of her books before and wasn’t sure what to really expect. After Fifty Shades there have been so many stories that it doesn’t seem there is that much to hold my interest. Well this story did. It is a lot of story and personality. There is hot sex but that is only a part of this. There is a real story here and it just got a hold of me from the start and I had a hard time setting it aside. I listened as I drove everywhere. I listened at home while doing the stuff I had to do. Then I listened till late into the night because I was so entertained. These characters have so much personality that I wanted to see if Angel could contain her personality to actually be a sub. I loved the interaction of the two and how I feel Adam came across so strong and kept putting Angel off her comfort level. I really enjoyed the video game part. Listening to where Angel sat kept me laughing and feeling for her. Also I have to give the narrator Roberto Scarlato credit. He is perfect for this story. His voice is sexy while also being able to bring Angel’s character to life. I will hope to hear more of him. I will be listening to more of this author’s stories.
This was a good book, but too long and not enough BDSM. A lot of the book was on Angel’s roommates and her girl friend and I understand what the author was doing, but I excepted more hot sexy scenes.

The Sassy Submissive
Stronghold, Book 1
By: Golden Angel
Narrated by: Roberto Scarlato
This is my first Golden Angel book and I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the world she created, as well as the characters in that world. She has a wonderful great writing style, the characters and dialogue are realistic and relatable. The storylines are interesting and captivate you from start to end. This is Adam and Angel’s story and their building relationship. The D/s scene are hot and all nicely done. We get an inside glimpse of The Stronghold Club and meet Adam’s friends who are also members, I like the dynamics of their group. We also meet some of Angel’s friends too. I am looking forward to the next book in this great series.
I listened to the audible edition, Roberto Scarlato is an awesome narrator and storyteller. He sets a nice tone for the story and performs the voices for all the characters bringing them to life from the pages to your ears. He is a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for a great listen!
Wow! I can totally identify with Angel and her special journey. Especially the gamer girl part 😉 Halo is my favorite game and I can beat all the boys too!
I loved how the author described the two different clubs in the beginning and how different they were. It was almost like she painted a picture. This book was so detailed I could see it all playing out in my head. I really loved how the author created so many unique characters and they were all different…. Damn this book was so sizzling hot. The one thing that I really enjoyed about this book is the color system is honored and constantly asked. There is proper aftercare and the scenes are beautiful. I can’t wait to read the next books.
I enjoyed this book. As the first in the Stronghold (BDSM) series, it was entertaining to see how Angel got herself into circumstances beyond her experience, and how Adam ultimately got her to where she really wanted to go. Quite satisfying in the long run.
OMG, this book will captivate your imagination, keep your system revved and make you wonder why you hadn’t thought of this. Golden Angel has given us a storyline that is relatable to those wanting to venture into BDSM and what they might find there. The characters she has given a home to are drool worthy, with personalities that will make you literally want them for your own circle of friends. This is a book of discovery with characters that are continually growing into themselves add the excitement of BDSM and you have the perfect romance. What a wonderful beginning to what looks to be a terrific series.
his is my first book by Golden Angel. I found it full of humorous undertones, frustrations of life & relationships. I found Angel, strong, intelligent and independent, but wise that she needed more. The men ranged from nerdy professionals to controlling professionals. Adam and his friends show their controlling but caring Dominance. There was humor, sensitivity and angst. If you haven’t read it yet you should
Adam and his friends normally go to Stronghold but decide to visit Chained as a change, when he saw the woman, he was instantly attracted, she said she was a Domme, but there was something off in her body language.
Seeing Adam, she felt herself shiver and she had to leave, because staying he would make her want to stop pretending that she was there for research.
Having to do another intro scene, Adam couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Angelia who was meant to be Angie, he could see her shock, with trust and dishonesty being a big part of BDSM, how could he believe she was being honest now, saying she was a submissive.
Angel couldn’t believe it was Adam and she knew he was attracted to her, but didn’t want to be, he looked angry at her but that soon changed to looking like he wanted to devour her, and she had a tingling all over and he hadn’t even touched her.
Angel was everything Adam could see he would want in a submissive, her response to him was there and he couldn’t deny he wanted her, but he could he get over the fact that she lied to him, and his lack of trust in her, while overcoming issues from his past and build their trust to have a lasting relationship.
I gave this Book a rating of 4 ’s
