A young witch who has been bitten by love before. A drop-dead gorgeous vampire who likes to live wild. Could a summer fling help them get over their hangups about love?Brie has to make up for all the classes that she missed when she was sneaking off to meet her mermaid girlfriend, so she’s stuck in summer school. But after homework is done, she should be allowed to have a little fun. What better … have a little fun. What better place to hang out than the Santa Cruz Boardwalk? With a seasonal pass, she can go on roller coasters and watch free concerts on the beach every night.
The vampires at the Boardwalk are harmless because it’s illegal for them to feed on people. It’s still a bad idea to date one, but Brie wants a little fun on the rebound. Lucinda says she doesn’t want anything serious. A casual summer romance could be just the thing for both of them.
Then bodies start showing up on the beach, drained of blood. People are quick to blame the vampires and Brie fears the worst, but Lucinda insists that they’re innocent. Together, they could find the truth about what’s really going on… or Brie could be heading into another trap.
Can she trust her new girlfriend or did Brie make another deadly dating mistake?
The Salty Witch is the first book in an upper YA urban fantasy academy trilogy. It takes place twenty years after the Fae of Calaveras trilogy, but does not require prior reading. If you like teen witches, magical schools, and lesbian vampires, you’ll enjoy Kristen S. Walker’s latest novel.

I received an ebook from the author and this is my voluntary, honest review. Another wonderful story from Kristen S. Walker! We all need to learn to “grow up” one day; it just takes some longer than others to decide it’s time. Enjoyable easy read.
Our heroine survived her first year at the academy, but during summer school gets caught up in a murder investigation. Whatever happened to just studying for class tests?
This is book two in a new magical academy story. It works pretty well as a standalone. You will be missing some of the backstory, but the essentials are covered early on.
The story is well written and includes a lot of the tropes you would expect from a YA academy story, but I am very pleased to say that there are also a lot of differences. It is these differences (which I won’t describe to avoid spoilers, sorry) which makes the story stand out. That and the characters, of course, who are truly diverse in more ways that one (this is a magical world, after all). The characters have unique personalities and continue to grow throughout this story as well. The mystery is also a good one and keeps the story moving along. Overall, it was a very fun read and I am looking forward to the next book.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from StoryOrigin for review purposes.
Poor Brie, she has such a hard time with love. I love reading these books, they are such fun! Kristen Walker does a phenomenal job with her character development and world building. It is easy to slip into the story and fell like I belong! Wonderful!
This book is an excellent addition to the series. It was well written and the characters and story were well developed. I love the character personalities and seeing their relationships change and develop. The story was great. It had action, suspense, intrigue and emotion. I’d highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in this series.
I received an arc for a voluntary review.
The Salty Witch: Summer School (Santa Cruz Witch Academy Book 2) by Kristen S. Walker is an awesome story to read. This is book number two in this awesome series that I am so hooked on and can not wait to read more. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about witches and YA stories.
I received a free copy of this book via StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a fun read with an action packed storyline and great characters. You’ve got a magical academy for teen witches , vampires, romance and a few murders to solve and I look forward to seeing where this adventure goes next!
A must read VERY paranormal series!
Santa Cruz is wonderful year round, but especially in summer! So, our girl Brie is tasked with making up coursework at the Academy over the summer after her shenanigans during the previous school year. While she still has a bruised heart from her mermaid adventure, an after school new romance with a vampire may be just what she needs. This was supposed to be a lighthearted distraction from her studies, but unfortunately murder and mayhem ensue. Page-turner…and looking forward to the next book!!!
Brie (Bridget) has to do summer school to make up for being distracted, she has decided to not have another girlfriend for a while, but how long will she keep that promise to herself? She gets another roommate, although this time she seems to have a nicer one. Erin and Brie’s new friend Pamela decide that she needs a bit of fun, so they do a trip down to the Boardwalk, where Brie meets a vampire girl who grabs her attention. Will Brie have better luck with this girl? I enjoyed Brie’s story, she certainly has more troubles she will have to sort through (and she won’t always make the best decisions), but this time she has a bit more support. I look forward to the next book.
Brie is in the middle of all the action. This is another action packed storyline. The plot is good with well rounded and developed characters. Brie needs to make some hard choices in not only her friends but her actions. A good read. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Brie is back at her magic academy for summer school. This summer is going to be spent only on passing her classes. That is what she tells herself. But she has a new roommate who is very social. Brie finds a new girlfriend who is unliked by her friends. Murder, lies and manipulation are just some of the things that happen in this 2nd book of this series. I am ready for book 3 to be released as it is the last book of this saga. I recommend this book. I was given a free copy of this book at my request and this is my honest review.
