In this bestselling series set in pre-revolutionary Russia, both a peasant and a princess face the prospect of their beloved country being torn apart by conflict within and without.1 The Crown and the Crucible2 A House Divided3 Travail and Triumph4 Heirs of the Motherland5 Dawning of Deliverance6 White Nights, Red Morning7 Passage Into Light
I felt like I was a part of the storyline.
I enjoyed this series very much. It traces the same characters all the way through, ending with the Russian Revolution. Their faith in God is real and keeps them going through hardship. I learned a lot about life in Russia during this time period.
I have to admit that I have just started this book but I AM IN LOVE! The writing style reminds me of a classic book. I love the story line so far. The historical background is so interestingly written I want to know more.
The main character, Anna, comes from a poor but loving home in the countryside of Russia. At great sacrifice of her parents, she is sent to a wealthy prince’s home to work and hopefully live a better life with more privileges. She is sent to the Kitchen to work for Olga and never to be seen by the royal family. Olga is strict and difficult to work for but Katrina is blessed with a friend named Polya who takes her under her wing at her arrival.
I don’t want to say much more but the story jumps to the perspective of the Fedorcenko family, by whom Anna is employed, and involves Tsar Alexander II in some scenes which makes the Russian history come alive. I can’t wait to read the whole series!!
History comes alive though these books. A great read.
Michael Phillips and Judith Pella are amazing authors. This series holds the reader’s interest throughout. This historical fiction helps the reader understand life in Russia. I read this series when it was first published and I was excited to experience it again.
Great historical and art details
This book is fictional, but has the background of real history. The story is very engaging. It is 7 books long, so be prepared to read for awhile. I enjoyed it. I looked up the history and it is accurate.
Excellent could not put it down
This entire series was a terrific read about characters in Russian history. We learned about the rich as well as the poor, war stories and supporters.
This series is beautifully written with action, excitement, love, and historical reality. Each novel could be read individually, but better read consecutively.
Highly recommended!!
Absolutely loved the entire series. Very informative regarding life in Russia before and during the revolution.
The author was very good weaving the lives of royals, worker and farmers into a wonderful novel
A very good historical novel.

I loved this series!
My favorite Michael Phillips series.
Re-reading because they are so good. The set gives me an idea what it would be like to exist under communism and socialism. Valuable for learning.
I read this series in paperback years ago. I was thrilled to find the kindle version and look forward to reading it again.
I loved them. I love reading historical novels about Russian history. This boos series hits the mark. Enjoyable read. Try it even if you don’t like history.
