He knew she’d be nothing but trouble… down?
A bombshell long-lost memory finally explains why Gracie Rockwell never quite fit in with her boisterous family—she isn’t a Rockwell, after all. Desperate for answers, she leaves her beloved Rocky Peak Lodge in search of the little boy who saved her so long ago. Did he grow up to be the gorgeous-but-guarded Mark Castellani? What does he know about her true origins? If only she could pry some answers from her enigmatic new boss—and get rid of her massive crush.
But while she’s eager to uncover the past, he’d rather bury it forever. Mark was right—Gracie is the kind of trouble he never wanted. But she’s exactly the trouble he needs.

By far my most favorite book couple EVER!!! I knew Gracie’s story in the Rockwell series would be fun and romantic and amazing! And Jennifer Bernard didn’t disappoint me.
Gracie and Mark were so much fun. I found myself laughing out loud more than once. I loved the way Gracie pulled Mark out of his somber self. Her interactions with everyone around her make me want to be her friend. I hope we learn more about her past in the rest of the series.
I can’t wait for the next installment. A definite must read!!!
Another winner by Jennifer Bernard!! I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book that I have read in this series, but I have them all. I am not a fan of reading a series out of order, but to honor the request for a review I did it. I’m sure I was missing some info from the other books (since I knew about them), but you would have never known it as you were reading along.
Gracie made me smile. She was such a loving and caring person you just couldn’t help but be in a good mood when she was on the page. I give her credit for seeking answers to find out about herself after the bombshell was dropped about her not being an actual blood Rockwell family member. Of course it did seem pretty convenient that she found her way to Mark without too much investigation. But that is the fun of romance stories!
Mark was one that took a bit longer to warm up too. That was mostly due to the fact that he had so many walls that he put up to shield himself from the world. Gracie was just what he needed to pull his head out of the sand.
I of course wanted the story to keep going as it ended too soon for me. There are more answers that were not closed up for my taste, but there still is another book to go in this series. Now to go back and read them all from the beginning to get the back story I am missing.
All in all, another home run from Ms. Bernard!
fun read
Gracie…youngest of the Rockwell kids. A dreamer of dreams and a marcher to her own drum. Loving everything about her family and their lodge. A free-spirit. Then, reality comes crashing down and Gracie feels she must leave everything she knows and loves, to find out her truth.
Mark Castellani. Gracie needs answers and Mark may be the keeper of the key to unlock the Rockwell mystery. Becoming his employee might or might not be a good thing since he doesn’t know her quirkiness at first and treats her like the adult she longs to be. Revealing their past association, and the person who brought them together long ago, brings memories that hurtle them both to a possible disaster.
I’ve loved all of the books in the Rockwell legacy. Gracie has been a sprite in the other books. Flitting in and out of the story, dreamy and ethereal. To see such backbone and tenacity in her was an eye opener. As we continue to follow the mystery surrounding the family, maybe there will be a breakthrough soon!
This book is certainly a stand-alone, although you’ll probably benefit from reading the first three in the series just to get the most out of The Runaway.
I really love series that revolve around families. As we all know families can love and hate you in the same breath. There are layers to families that you don’t get with friends. Growing up together since birth equals a lot of secrets. Some good, some sad.
That’s what this story has. Along with some laughs and a mystery.
I’ve been really enjoying this series. The Rockwell family is just like most of us. They couldn’t wait to get away from where they started but then find themselves back.
I was really looking forward to Gracie’s story. There is something about her that you just feel is…I don’t want to say childish, more childlike. She just seems to not be in this world with us all. I wondered how her story would work out.
Happily, it worked out well. She found a man (Mark) who didn’t mind her ways. In fact, he liked that she was a little flighty. They turned out to be a good match. Not only did they really like each other they both had something in their pasts that connected them together.
As much as I liked these two together at times Gracie’s simpleminded attitude bugged me. She wouldn’t listen sometimes and caused others to suffer for it. The good thing is she has a good head on her shoulders and quickly did what was the smart thing to do.
I’m so happy these two found each other again and they helped each other. In many was Gracie is perfect for Mark. He needs a woman that understands what he went through and can be there from him when the memories hit.
This is an amazing story that I am glad I decided to read. This is the first book I have read in the series and I was blown away by this one so much so I am going to binge read the first three books because this story is off the hook.
In this story we meet Mark and Gracie. Mark works at the Marina that Gracie comes to too take a trip to find out who she is because she has just discovered that she is not a Rockwell like she has been told her whole entire life.
As she goes on the Marina she meets Mark and they have something in common they just don’t know what it is yet and then Mark remembers Gracie and he knows he has to keep it secret but it is hard when Gracie is the one poking around trying to find out the truth.
Will Gracie find out who she really is? Will her and Mark become an item? Or will both their worlds collide and crash?
Another great instalment of the Rockwell legacy from Jennifer Bernard
This book has it all
Love .. romance …rescue of a hero/heroine
Dragging yo the part to post a clear path to tHe future
Seems simple …
Love and romance collide with two main headstrong characters at the centre of an explosive sexy romance
Wow! Ms. Bernard’s books just get better and better.
Gracie & Mark have a history, only neither one of them really knows what it is at first when they meet in present day. Gracie is a “fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants” follow your intuition kind of girl while Mark is a brooding, trust no one kind of guy based on what happened to him as a child. But somehow, their vast differences just work and they click so well.
Secrets, carjackings, kidnappings, arson, this book has it all. I love the romance and the intrigue!
Impatiently waiting for the next book in the series.
The Runaway is the fourth book in Jennifer Bernard’s new series that features the dysfunctional family dynamics between the Rockwell siblings and their grief stricken patriarch; a harsh and domineering man they all call “Mad Max”. Gracie has always been most content living on the mountain and running the family inn until a flashback reveals misty memories of a young boy and an infant that she is compelled to pursue. Gracie is a free spirited pixie who is engagingly naive and though Mark tries to keep his distance to protect his heart it’s a losing battle; especially when she rushes headlong into a dangerous situation that leads to tragic consequences. Great storytelling and the continuing mystery surrounding the death of the Rockwell matriarch adds a whole lot of suspense to an unlikely romance that will touch your heart. I can’t wait for the final book in the series!
The 4th book in The Rockwell Legacy Series. This is about Gracie. Gracie found out she is not a member of the Rockwell family. She has memories of Amanda finding her in the woods and taking her home. She leaves to find out what happened to her 23 years ago when she was only a few months old. She finds Mark, the man who saved her when he was a young boy. He owns a marina, and Gracie starts working for him.
They go on a road trip to find the man who kidnapped them, and they find Gracie’s Mother. There is a big scene where something happens to something. No one hurt, but not sure what caused it. She goes home, and Mark comes after her.
Spoiler alert, Kai is going to be a Daddy !
Up next is The Rock with Jake and Olivia. According to the chapter in the book, it’s almost a continuation of this book, where things are hopefully cleared up.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Gracie Rockwell is the baby of the family, and has always been just a bit different. She has finally realized why, and now it’s time to leave the family compound and try to solve the mystery of her past. When her search leads her to Mark, she may finally get her answers. Mark has spent his life doing everything he can to be safe and secure after is childhood trauma. His new employee threatens his “clam-like” life. These two had an “instant” connection and were good for each other. As they get to know each other, they get each other out of their comfort zones. I loved these two together, and their supporting cast is just as likeable and entertaining.
With a deepening mystery, humor, and romance, Bernard continues to deliver characters and a story line that keep me coming back for more.
I can’t wait for the next novel to read Jake’s story, and see how the mystery surrounding Gracie and the rest of the Rockwells resolves.

Highly entertaining, sweetly sexy, emotionally gripping and action packed journey filled with uncertainty, secrets, drama, longing and impossible to ignore passion…. was a great read from beginning to end and I really enjoyed all the exciting charters in this adventure.
I love the Rockwell Legacy series by Jennifer Bernard. Each book gets better and better, and takes us deeper into the mystery of the death of the Rockwell matriarch.
I adore Gracie and was wrapped up in her story and her journey to discover her past. The connection between her and Mark is as undeniable as their attraction to each other. They are opposites in so many ways, but as they say, opposites attract. And, oh boy, is that ever true here! I was glued to their romance all the way through this book.
I’m excited for the next book and can’t wait for Jake’s story!
Gracie Rockwell always “felt” different from her brothers and sister. As the youngest, she never felt the need to venture out on her own and explore the world. She was happy just being Gracie and helping out at the lodge. When an old bassinet is discovered, Gracie has visions of being found in the bassinet, in the woods. Sensing that she may not be a true Rockwell, Gracie strikes out on her own in search of answers as to who she really is.
Mark has always been the guy to hire misfits. And Gracie is one of the most confusing, quirky individuals he’s ever met. She makes his life easier, but more complicated. While she enjoys the outdoors, she’s never been to the ocean and doesn’t know how to swim. Her sunny disposition is well liked by all his customers. But, he knows she’s hiding something. When he spies her going through his personal items, he confronts her only to find out that they have a past. One Mark would like to forget…In search for answers, they embark on a road trip. It will either destroy them or make them stronger.
I LOVED this unique story! I’ve always enjoyed Gracie’s kindness, youthful outlook on life, and wisdom. Everyone, even her family, tends to underestimate her. Her determination and zest for life is admirable. Mark, having suffered at the hands of a madman, has trouble trusting and making commitments. With Gracie’s help, Mark is finally able to confront his past so he can leave it in the past. Although this novel can be read as a stand-alone, I would definitely recommend reading the rest of the series first. The mystery element is first revealed in the first novel and builds throughout the rest of them. I received a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
The Runaway is a romantic mystery by Jennifer Bernard. It is a stand-alone novel although it is the fourth book in the Rockwell Legacy. This one is about Gracie, the baby of the Rockwell family. She is somewhat psychic and has a vision when she touches certain things. When she grabs her old baby bassinet, she “sees” an event in her life as a baby. This leads to the discovery that she was not born a Rockwell. Gracie sets out on a journey of discovery, following clues to find her birth mother. She ends up at a marina where she meets and falls for the owner, Mark Castellina. Together, they follow the clues to discover who she really is.
This book is a mystery, evolving into a romance between Gracie and Mark. There is a hint of darkness in the shadows as they search for her birth mother. As they stir the ashes of the past, a firestorm breaks out endangering both Gracie and Mark. The past ignites into flames and someone wishes to harm all that Gracie holds dear. While the book is a stand-alone read, it is part of a series and not all answers are revealed in this novel. A 5 star romantic mystery.
Another piece of the Rockwell family comes out in this book. I love how this series has just a little bit of mystery.
Gracie has been one of my favorite characters since the series started. She was always in the background as a bit of a free spirit and the one who never left home. Now she finds out some information that takes her away from home and to work at a marina owned by Mark. The journey she takes is one that keeps you turning pages because you want to find out where she will head next and what else she is going to find out. Mark is going to fit in this family just perfectly.
I wish the next book was already out so I could dive right in to see what is going to happen next and how it all ties together. Jennifer Bernard does a great job of mixing romance with mystery.
Another piece of the Rockwell puzzle!
When last we left the Rockwell family, Gracie had just realized she was a key part of their mother’s mystery. Deciding she needs to finally leave the safely of Rocky Peak Lodge to get her answers she ends up in SoCal and working for Mark, a broody man who has some of the answers she’s looking for and some she only dreamed of.
With her trademark style of weaving mystery, romance, and humor Jennifer Bernard has created another gripping story in an excellent series. Can’t wait for the final piece of the puzzle with Jake!
Another good addition to the Rockwell family saga. The adventure and mystery is really kicking into gear. I’m anxious to find out what happens next.
*4.5 stars*
A romantic mystery…
Funny. Serious. Mysterious. Tangled. Sexy. Family-filled. This story was many things in a well-written, romantic package! The main characters were polar opposite in temperament and outlook on life, which made their pairing that much sweeter…
Gracie was quirky, fun loving and happy to go with the flow as she searched for answers. Broody Mark was NONE of those things as he continued to deal with a past that haunted and hindered him. Together, found truth and honesty as secrets long-held came into the light…
I really enjoyed this story about trust, love and survival. Gracie may have been secretive but she was even honest about that and Mark couldn’t help his protective streak taking over. Whether a common goal or just the feelings that grew between them, come together they did, in sparks and emotions that had me feeling each painful (and joyful) bump in their road…
I felt a bit jolted when the lightheartedness fell away and the story’s serious elements took the lead but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it all!
*I happily reviewed this book
OMG I Love this series and can not wait for the next one come on don’t make me wait to long ! The dynamics in this family is so wonderful to see siblings having each others back through it all .
Gracie’s finds out a secret about herself and goes out to discover her true self . Mark is somehow tied to Gracie in a way we don’t see coming but wow what a ride !! LOVE how all the books tie together please bring on the next book !
