A heart-wrenching, unforgettable story of two evacuee sisters during the Second World War… Perfect for fans of Orphan Train, Nadine Dorries and Diney Costeloe. London, 1942: Thirteen-year-old Nell and five-year-old Olive are being sent away from the devastation of the East End. As the sisters struggle to adjust to life as evacuees, they soon discover that living in the countryside isn’t always idyllic. Nell misses her mother and brothers more than anything but she has to stay strong for Olive. When little Olive’s safety is threatened by a boy at Hackers Farm, Nell has to make a decision that will change their lives forever…
They must run from danger and try to find their way home.

Runaway Children had a different story to tell than other WW II “evacuees” stories that I have read. It was more optimistic than depressing. The characters drew me in. The children were beyond resilient. I was always anxiously to pick it up and read some more.
I liked this book even though the story was sad.
Interesting.
Very good WWII England story about children displaced by the war. It was a good read.

Great story, about children during WW 11, and their difficulties
You will not want to put this book down.
Loved the book it was a combination of a great story teller and her slant on the lives of some children and their parents during the heart breaking times during war and poverty. Great read
Enjoyable read.
I loved this books. Th girls we’re engaging and it had a satisfactory ending.
I liked this book. It was about a family during World War II in London. It tells what the family had to go through. They had to separate and what this one sister and her younger sister went through and finally towards the end the family reunited. I would recommend this book for others to read.
absolutely wonderful read. I may be twisted but I love reading about this time period. I really think all should read this, especially students who don’t know that much about the times their grandparents, etc. may have lived though.
Feel good ending.
I loved the characters the story is throughly an enjoyable worth while read
