Men are good for two things: orgasms and reaching the wine glasses on the top shelf.ARI: I’ve always said boyfriends are like martinis; they’re lots of fun at first, but the longer you indulge the bigger headache they’ll give you. With career goals to crush and more than a few balls in the air, there’s no place in my life for the messy complications of love. Jax Crosby thinks he can tempt me to … can tempt me to lose control and he’s using his daughter to reel me in. He’d be dangerously easy to fall for, but there are more important things in life than love, aren’t there?
JAX: I like to stay two steps ahead; that way, I’m never surprised. But even I didn’t see this one coming. Congratulations to me—I’m a freakin’ dad. Now I’ve got a teenage daughter who hates me, an ex who wants to cut things off my body I’m not ready to part with, and an attraction to a curvy songbird that couldn’t have come at a worse time. But I’ve never met a situation I couldn’t handle, and I’ve never let a female get the best of me. So why do I have the feeling Ariana Amante might be one more thing I never saw coming?

This is book six in the Carolina Connections series. It can be read as a standalone but there will be some spoilers from the first five books since they’re interconnected. I purchased the first five books after I finished this one, so I’ll be reading them soon. This book was laugh out loud funny and hot.
Jax finds out he’s a dad fourteen years after his ex gave birth their daughter. Now he’s trying to navigate building a relationship with his daughter. He had met Ari before he found out about his daughter, Lola and was getting ready to ask her out when his whole world kind of imploded. Desperate to gain some common ground with his daughter, Jax asks Ari to coach Lola in singing. Things move along and eventually Ari and Jax start seeing each other but Jax is worried about Lola getting hurt if things don’t work out between him and Ari. Jax had some bad experiences in his childhood that has cause some serious trust issues. Can he work through them so that he and Ari can be happy, or will he keep pushing everyone away because it’s safer for him?

Sylvie Stewart has been on my author go-to list for quite a while now. I just love her writing style and almost irreverent sense of humor that she manages to incorporate into all of her books. I was not initially on board with the approach Ari took to her relationships, or rather non-relationships, but I was really glad to see her start to question herself and realize that there was more to life than just hooking up with someone for the moment. Jax was also a player who had reality smack him in the face when he found out he had a daughter he never knew about. A teenage daughter! I really like how he stepped up and became the one thing he never thought he would be…A Responsible Father! Together these two carefree and fun-loving individuals along with a reluctant tennager become the perfect family unit. All of this is delivered with the snarky humor and witty dialogue the reader can always expect from Sylvie Stewart!!
