I don’t usually dislike books, but man I regret buying this book. Lainey is fucking annoying, Brogan needs a therapist, Zoey needs to figure her shit out and Jackson needs a whooping. I can’t explain how annoyed I am at this book. The reviews were definitely clickbait
This is a fun office romance between the CEO and the newest employee. Lainey and Brogan’s story is full of humor, drama, angst, back stabbing, and oh so many rules! I enjoyed this story and thought the ending was great.
Fantastic book. I highly recommend. Laugh out loud funny.
Warning: Adult Sexual Content and Subject Matter, which you can skip over and still fully enjoy the book.
Lainey, newly arrived in Portland to take a job at Starr Media now works for CEO Brogan Starr, as his second assistant. A dream job for this recent graduate of Graduate School all she can think of is making a good impression and moving up. What she doesn’t have on her future career move list is making one oops after another. From the non-smiling first assistant, Jackson who treats her with disdain to an elevator that tries to eat her clothes literally every day this book is a mixture of humor and drama for the reader. A fun read with a happily ever after ending. Did I mention a cute dog?
I enjoyed this book. It’s one that’s sat on my kindle for close on two years and right from the beginning it sucked me in. Lainey lands herself a job as second assistant to the CEO Brogan Starr. The man she has to answer to though, Jackson, is awful. Didn’t like him at all. He tries to undermine Lainey’s work. Takes credit for work she did. When she gets stuck with walking Brogan’s dog and feeding him, she comes to the apartment one day to find Brogan there, in a towel. That begins their relationship, although it’s all very covert as Brogan has a stack of rules related to his business and definitely no relationships between workers. She can’t risk losing her job as her mother is sick and Lainey’s taken on the job of paying her medical bills which she’s being swamped by, but still refuses to let her ill mother worry about them.
This was a light hearted read. Not deep, so if you don’t mind light, but at times quite funny, and Bruce. Gotta love gassy Bruce. Brogan’s dog, then this is worth reading. Over all, an enjoyable read.
Lainey Taylor has a degree in her hands and is ready for the next step in her life, and she is certain a job at Starr Enterprises may just be that step, that is until she is handed a 300+ page rule book. After delving into said book she is certain her boss has to be nuts to write such a book, and then to expect his employees to actually abide by all of these rules! After a few days of basically being her new bosses errand girl/servant she is frustrated beyond belief, it is so not what she signed up for or expected to be doing, and it has her wondering is this really what a degree gets you? Her frustration leads her to do a little venting in the break room to a fellow co-worker, and just when she starts to feel a little ease in her stress level, she learns that she just vented all her disgust to her boss Brogan Starr! Why oh why did she have to open her mouth?
Brogan Starr has a reputation that precedes him, the problem is that reputation doesn’t really suit him at all, his employees think he is the AntiChrist, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth! Rather than prove them wrong he lets them continue to hold that opinion of him for the sake of business and keeping things running according to his beloved rule book. But the minute he meets his new assistant Lainey Taylor she sees right through him and his “reputation”, and sees the man he really is, a sexy, tattooed unrefined bad boy that’s hiding underneath. There is something about her that gets to him, like no other woman ever has, and has him wanting to cross lines he knows he shouldn’t…there’s no way he’s breaking one of his rules!!
This was my first experience with Ms. Blackwood’s work, and I have to say I was really impressed with how much I enjoyed it, it was refreshing take on the forbidden office romance trope and it kept me very entertained the whole way through!! I loved Lainey’s feisty spirit and the approach she took to dealing with all the struggles in her life, she was a hoot, and had me laughing out loud several times!! Brogan was hard to resist, after seeing there was more to him than meets the eye, I began to let my distaste for his bad attitude go and fell hard for the unrefined tattooed bad boy that he really was, and began to see he was really a good guy after all. I loved everything about this story and I think it is by far one of best NetGalley finds I have had in a while and I highly recommend you give it a try! It’s sure to have you laughing, smiling, and swooning the whole way through!!
