Estlin Hume lives in Twin Butte, Alberta surrounded by a horde of affectionate squirrels. His involuntary squirrel-attracting talent leaves him evicted, expelled, fired and near penniless until two aliens arrive and adopt him as their translator. Yanked around the world at the center of the first contact crisis, Estlin finds his new employers incomprehensible. As he faces the ultimate language barrier, unsympathetic military forces converging in the South Pacific keep threatening to kill the messenger. The question on everyone’s mind is why are the aliens here? But Estlin’s starting to think we’ll happily blow ourselves up in the process of finding that out.

”What makes The Rosetta Man stand-out? An unusually dense squirrel population for sci-fi. It’s light-hearted, accessible sci-fi with exotic present day settings and a pair of aliens who are focused on observing the revealing chaos their visit creates.” – Claire McCague, author
A perfect sci-fi romp for fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy!

terrific read
I loved the lead character and the humor in its understated manner. I’d read more from this author.
The author loses track of her story.
Interesting up to that point!
I laughed out loud even though it shows everything that would reasonably go wrong for humans’ first contact situation.
it won’t let me read it.
Loved it! Couldn’t put it down!
This story line caught me off guard and kept me up reading, allnight.
loved it
Clever and thoughtful. What happens when aliens arrive and they are sooo not what we expected or ever imagined. What if you were one of the only people that the aliens could even remotely communicate with? Toss in a creative mix of scientists, military, and even an old flame and the story just gets stranger and stranger. Fun ending reminded me of Hitchhikers guide but with its own flavor.
I was expecting a Douglas Adams experience given the initial chapters. The story took a dark turn towards the end.
This was ok. I really liked the story, but it was like the author didn’t explain things well enough. The characters would randomly be somewhere that they weren’t before (not like major displacement but enough to be confusing). It’s difficult to tell if it was the writer or the editor. In the end it doesn’t really matter, I didn’t want to read the next book because of it.
This wasn’t a bad book, really, but I felt like it was a couple hundred pages of prologue, leading up to a really awesome, exciting story that hasn’t been written yet. I give it a less-than-emphatic recommendation.
Good read with interesting plot, could have had a better ending.
Great ending! Keeps you entertained.
Disappointing at best. This book is difficult to follow.
I’m not really sure what I think about this book. I liked it overall, but it was never very clear on what was really going on with the aliens. Also, the treatment of the protagonist by the Government was never very clear. Not sure if I will get the next book in the series.
It was a fun romp through first contact when the aliens only speak through color in one, hapless dude’s brain. I enjoyed the concept of other animals also dealing with first contact.
I’m about halfway through this book and I find it to be very entertaining. Good science, witty and interesting characters.
very creative!
Great idea that could have been pages shorter.
