Lovely, complex characters combined with excellent research make for a wonderful historical novel that draws you deep into the world the author has created.
A lovely historical, time-travel romance. I’ve never read any of Susanna Kearsley’s books before, and I’ve added her to my list of authors I’ll pick up anything by. Her writing is effortless, the history well-researched, and the settings perfectly ethereal and magic-swept.
Which book do you wish was twice as long?
This one ended too soon! Several surprises and many twists had me wanting more! A wonderful romantic historical and modern day suspense Gothic in a time traveling adventure. I actually cried out loud during one part that took me by complete surprise. I usually do not like time travel with all the …
Once again Susanns Kearsley doesn’t disappoint. Eva has gone to Cornwall to scatter her sisters ashes. While staying at the home of family friends she begins to travel back in time. It’s completely out of her control when she shifts back and forth. She meets Daniel the current resident from the 1700’s. They are in love with each other but can a …
I didn’t want to put it down once I’d started it. Beautiful, atmospheric book.
5 Stars. Susanna Kearsley’s writing style reminds me of another author I adore–Mary Stewart. Beautiful writing, entrancing story, lovely hero and heroine. No gratuitous scenes. Well-researched. Loved it!
Another amazing book by Susanna Kearsley. Loved this time travel tale. The characters are so ‘real’. Eighteenth century Cornwall during one of the Jacobite uprisings. The story takes place in a fishing village in Cornwall that is actually based on the real place of Polperro. When I visited there in 2015, I could feel the history come alive from …
I loved this story! A heroine soothing her aching loss of her sister with old friends and memories of a special time. She spends time helping her old friends create a new business. Somehow she travels back in time and falls in love. I enjoyed all the characters and the ending! I think Susanna Kearsley might be my new favorite author!
Omen of my favorite books that I turn to again and again. Kearsley’s ability to take you back in time and meld two or sometimes three worlds into one is masterful. The Rose Garden will make you want to cry and rejoice and everything in between. A must read for historical fiction fans, with a slight paranormal romance twist that will grab you …
Joanna Kearsley is a wonderful writer! I’ve read several of her books and haven’t been disappointed yet. She really knows how to weave a story that entertains you and always keeps your interested.
One of my favourites from this author. A truly interesting story, with great characters and wonderful story-line. You HAVE to read this!
A time travel with realistic eighteenth century language, and an engaging hero.
I couldn’t put this book down.
I love you historical fiction that has a magic element. Kearsley is able to use such descriptive words that I can picture every location and every person and am transported into the book. I missed each of the characters deeply when the book was finished.
I loved the way this examined Eva’s grief after the death of her sister and the way her found family took care of her. Plus, time travel! And intrigue! And a tea house that I wish was real so I could visit!
This is one of my favorite books. An intricate and haunting story, deftly told, with complicated characters. The Rose Garden makes it sound like a nice, sweet, sunny story, but it is more like a historic thriller, set in a turbulent and unpredictable time.
A wonderful story! Loved the characters and the story. Made it seem like time travel is truly possible.
The author’s choice of words put you into the scenes and you could easily be a part of the story. I love all of her books.
I loved it.
I loved the element of time travel and choosing between the present and the past. A beautifully written and satisfying read.
