An extraordinary new voice in contemporary woman’s fiction, Courtney Miller Santo makes her magnificent debut with The Roots of the Olive Tree, a novel that will delight fans of Sarah Blake’s The Postmistress, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, and the works of Kristin Hannah.
Set in a house on an olive grove in northern California, The Roots of the Olive Tree is a beautiful, touching … the Olive Tree is a beautiful, touching story that brings to life five generations of women—including an unforgettable 112-year-old matriarch determined to break all Guinness longevity records—the secrets and lies that divide them and the love that ultimately ties them together.

Right in the middle of it, but I just love the all the women in it- I just want to be adopted into their family; I’d be one of the young ones and I’m 77 years old!
I would consider this book a “sleeper”. It is so good but not popular. I loved it
Interesting relationships…..
Never really drew me in. Slow moving plot
Enjoyed reading this book – characters showed a lot of “wisdom”. Thought provoking!
This was an interesting story about five generations of women who own an olive grove in California. The matriarch of the family is over 100 years old. When a scientist comes to do genetic testing on the family due to their long lifespans, secrets are revealed.
loved it
Could have had a better ending
Couldn’t tell the players without a program. I kept waiting for something to happen ND NOTHING DID.
Full of family dynamics and the love that holds them together. Well written and will touch a lot of emotions
I am only half way through this book. It is rather slow-going and not terribly interesting as yet, hope it gets better
Liked it from the first page; interesting and loved the characters. Didn’t want it to end. Lots of details and educational.
I wanted more from this book. As often happens, the authors seems to run out of steam at the end so provides a chapter than sums up passing of time rather than continuing to provide robust descriptions of the “what’s next.”
A wonderful book
I enjoyed the characters and the story. There was pain, dysfunction as well as redemption.
I did not care for this book
Characters were confusing and the ending was just dropped.
Had potential but too many characters, tried to do too much with six generations of women. Confusing twists attempted to hold interest but left the characters underdeveloped. Underlying premise of advanced old age was a bit weak.
Extremely well written and the story line flowed seamlessly.
Interesting premise with unexpected plot sequence.
