#1 New York Times bestselling author John Grisham’s newest legal thriller takes you inside a law firm that’s on shaky ground.“[A] buoyant, mischievous thriller . . . Grisham writes in such an inventive spirit. . . . A treat.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close … better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.
But maybe there’s a way out. Maybe there’s a way to escape their crushing debt, expose the bank and the scam, and make a few bucks in the process. But to do so, they would first have to quit school. And leaving law school a few short months before graduation would be completely crazy, right? Well, yes and no . . .
Pull up a stool, grab a cold one, and get ready to spend some time at The Rooster Bar.
“Satisfying . . . Grisham [is] at his best when he brings his sardonic sense of humor to the sometimes questionable ethics of law and banking.”—USA Today
“[A] smartly told tale . . . gratifying and all-too-real.”—The Washington Post

Far fetched. A great writer mailed this one in. Don’t recommend.
Great read. Typical Grisham style. Couldn’t put it down
Quick read. Characters not very likable but could be because they weren’t as well developed as characters in other novels but he same author.
I didn’t like the book at all. I can’t believe I am saying that about a Grisham book. It was boring. I thought of putting it down many times but thought since it was a Grisham book it would get better. It didn’t happen.
Love all Grisham books!
Hated this book.
This book opens the readers eyes to the sick and horrible world of “educational loans” so students can go to college. Problem is, they will spend years and years and thousands of dollars paying off the loans. Some of the schools are more in the LOAN business than they are in the EDUCATION business. Debtors and future debtors, BEWARE.
Another great John Grishim book.
Interesting characters and as always the writer keeps your interest. A very easy book to read. Would have given it a 5 star but half way through it kept repeating same plot.
The writing, as usual, was good. The characters were fleshed out, but I’m not sure I liked them at all. It may be a generational thing. I feel for their predicament and how the system has scammed them, but I’m not sure I approve of the way they “solved” the problem. I kept getting annoyed at their choices. Granted, young 20-somethings are prone to bad judgement, but some of this was appalling. If they had put that much effort into summer jobs to pay for their loans, maybe I would have like them better. Summary – good premise, nicely told; unlikable characters.
This was a slow read and slow moving story. For Grisham I found it rather boring. Not much else to add.
Last couple of his books have been just okay. Disappointed
One of his best
Not up to the standard of other Grisham stories. Repetitive rape story.
I dint think it was up to Grisham usual standards. Was I little bored at times
A good read
I’ve read everything Grisham and I’m disappointed with the shallow, hard to like characters. There was no one to root for. Bad behavior in response to worse behavior and failing people that trusted you is just unacceptable. I wish I hadn’t purchased the book, I just did not expect this from such a fine storyteller.
I’m a Grisham fan and have read all of his books. It is certainly not one of his best books he’s written but it was enjoyable.
Great story. It just started dragging in the middle. Ending AWESOME . Characters GREAT!!!
As a big fan of John Grisham, I was really quite disappointed with this book. The story just dragged along with nothing to keep me reading. I kept waiting for the real plot and realized it was just the trouble these kids got themselves into. I had a hard time going back to continue reading and though there were tragic moments and rough situations, I just didn’t feel the intensity that I am accustomed to when reading a Grisham book.
