Let your homeless best friend stay with you, he said. Being roommates will be fun, he said. It’s only temporary, he said.He never said I’d fall for him.You know what isn’t ‘temporary?’ The endless stream of dirty socks in my bathroom and empty food packets under the sofa–and don’t even get me started on the hot guys who take over my living room every Sunday to watch sports.I can’t take anymore.… sports.
I can’t take anymore.
So I propose a roommate agreement. One that will bring peace and order back to my life, complete with rules that might just stop my newfound crush on my best friend in its tracks.
After all, there’s only so many times you can see your best friend naked before you start to lose your mind.
Rules. They’re meant to be broken… Aren’t they?

Another phenomenal read from Emma Hart!
Whenever I pick up a novel from Emma, I know that I am in store for a laugh out loud, hilarious novel. Emma has this way of making all of her novels realistic, to the extent at which, I feel as though I have lived through some of this situations being portrayed.
The Roommate Agreement is no exception. I constantly found myself holding back my laughter, all the while falling head over heels in love with the characters being described.
This author could write a phone book, or dictionary, but with her classic play on words and puns, I would love it anyway.
I cannot say enough amazing things about this novel. Grab it for yourself today.
5/5 Stars!
I love Emma Hart. Her books make me laugh out loud and the Roommate Agreement is no exception. Shelby and Jay are best friends, so when Jay has to move out of his apartment because the building has been sold, he moves in with Shelby, temporarily. No more than three months. And so, three months later, when Jay shows no sign of leaving, Shelby has finally had enough of his slovenly behavior and resorts to ‘The Roommate Agreement”. First up – Must wear Pants, because seeing Jay in nothing but his underwear with his morning “wood” on display is giving Shelby very inappropriate thoughts. Although Shelby’s minuscule shorts and tank that she sleeps in, that show every inch of her curves, is doing nothing to help that morning “wood”!! Can these two realize that their perceptions of each other are changing and do something about it? Great read.
4 stars for The Roommate Agreement by Emma Hart !
“By falling for my Best friend, I may have lost him”
Holy Shit, Jay and Shelby are great. They are hilarious. Shelby lets Jay move in with here because he has nowhere to go. This is a friends to lovers romance with a bunch of comedy thrown in. No one writes friends to lovers like Emma Heart. They way she writes the banter between these two is great. She really lets you know they have been friends forever. These two make a great couple but they are worried about losing their friendship. Most of all I wasn’t to be friends with Shelby. She is great. This was a really great book and I read it in a couple hours. You can not go wrong with anything by Emma Hart.
“Pancakes and abs were the things dreams were made of. Unless the abs belonged to your best friend and roommate. Then, they were off limits. Sadly.”
Shelby can not take it anymore. Open her home to her homeless best friend was the least she could do, but after three months, she’ve had enough. Jay is messy, loud, has the annoying craze of eating her precious Oreos, has a genuine fear of the washing machine and has the habit of getting out of the shower dripping and wrapped up in a towel. The other items she may even overlook, but the sight of this almost naked hot man is provoking reactions and feelings that she prefers to ignore.
Jay thought living with his best friend would be easy, but Shelby with her neat freak, her complaints about Jay’s friends and Sunday’s football, her fixation for Oreos, the way she closes herself on an alternate reality when she’s immersed at work, leaving aside her personal hygiene, and her craze for walking around the apartment without a bra and with tiny clothes are leaving the guy crazy. Mostly because of the tiny clothes.
For the sake of their friendship and her sanity, Shelby decides to make a roommate agreement, hoping to establish rules, making their lives easier and who knows, ending with the crush she developed for her friend. What she could not imagine was that Jay also expected the same.
The book is the quintessence of the clichés. And that’s exactly why it’s so good. Best friends who lead each other crazy and end up falling in love? Impossible not to like. But the great move is in Emma Hart’s writing, who can bring a light, funny tone and create good characters, bringing a new style to an already explored theme.
Shelby is charmingly neurotic and Jay is dangerously charming. And because of that they are ideal for each other. With a good plot, fluid narrative and the great idea of naming the chapters according to the items in the roommate agreement, the book is a fun read.

Emma HArt never disappoints. I love all her books. This is another one that had me laughing so hard that my stomach was hurting. You have 2 best friends who each have there own quirks and let me tell you, that you would think they were a couple.. Even when it comes to the Oreos… no one messes with my oreos that’s for sure lmao…
Beware though, do not read this while drinking anything because its just going to go to waste bahahaha
Emma Hart always delivers a funny & romantic book that makes you crave for best friends with chocolate cake!
Shelby & Jay are best friends over 20 years, they know each other’s families, friends, what makes each thin and thick, they are each others person.
Shelby is a writer, trying to survive in this hard community, and she can’t survive anymore by herself, Jay comes to her rescue and be her beloved roommate.
Looks fun right, nope!
Jay is a mess, completed, he leaves his socks everywhere, doesn’t do his laundry, housework doesn’t have on his dictionary, but he knows very well where the stash of Oreos are any time of the day, Shelby’s Oreo, and drives her mad.
Our girls love The BBT, and when she comes with The Roommate Agreement I almost peed in my pants!
I love the banter between them, friends helping each other, his telling her of that shower is her friend made me laugh so hard, or him trying to wash his cloth for the first time without detergent, I love this book so hard.
I highly recommend this book; it’s hilarious, romantic, so steamy and friends to lovers is everything you want and didn’t even know.
5 Stars and much more!
The Roommate Agreement is the newest book by the snarky, sarcastic Emma Hart…a pink-haired (although I prefer purple over pink) woman after my own heart. I was introduced to Emma Hart several weeks ago with the release of Catastrophe Queen. I signed up for the cover reveal and the release blitz, unfortunately, I wasn’t chosen to review but I was so intrigued by the book that I purchased it and LOVED it! Emma’s humor is addictive so I jumped on the chance to review The Roommate Agreement and did the white-girl celebration dance when I received the email that I was chosen to review. (You know the dance…the one where your upper body and lower extremities are completely disconnected.) Let’s see…this post will go live around noon and I’m on spring break so let’s grab another coffee and chat about Emma Hart’s The Roommate Agreement.
It is very rare that heterosexual males and females can be best friends and not develop feelings for each other at some point in the relationship, no matter how young the friendship began. You see, there are these things called hormones that are really hard to ignore so I’m not really sure what Shelby and Jay were thinking when they decided that living together would be a good idea. After months of not being able to control her thoughts at the sight of a shirtless Jay (OMG….did I mention that he’s a personal trainer?), tripping over his endless trash, and finding another bag of empty Oreos (he must change or die), Shelby takes a cue from Sheldon (yes, Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory) and forces Jay to sign and adhere to a roommate agreement.
Jay knows that he sucks as a roommate. Shelby is an introverted writer who works from home who hates pants, forgets personal hygiene when she’s working on a deadline, has an unhealthy love of Oreos, and is the sexiest woman he’s ever seen. It sucks but Jay has a crush on his best friend.
Emma Hart has created a character that absolutely cracks me up! I LOVE Shelby…like want to hang out and be BFFs with her. After reading two of Emma Hart’s books, you can definitely say that I am a fan and will be signing up for as many as I can. My rating for The Roommate Agreement is a solid 5 out of 5 propellers!
Emma Hart writes the best romcoms. I am a sucker for friends to lovers romances and this one was a one sitting read for me.
Shelby and Jay were such fun characters, I loved their banter. This book was full of moments that had me laughing. Shelby is a struggling writer and looking for a roommate to help her pay the bills. Jay is in need of a new place to live and is officially homeless at the moment. I loved Jay and how he learned how to do things around the house.
This was a funny that I really enjoyed. If you are looking for a lighthearted fun read grab this one.
The Roommate Agreement is a cute and fun friends-to-lovers romance. Shelby and Jay are a whole lot of fun together, and it’s obvious to everyone else (especially to readers, who get to see both of their thoughts throughout) that of course they’re crazy about each other and should get together…
…eventually.
That’s the one thing that made me kind of crazy as I read the book, though–given how much time they each spent mentally obsessing over each other, how on earth did it take them so long to do something about it? Especially if it was equally as clear to their friends and family (which apparently it was–we find out later on just how clear), why was it that neither of them seemed to have a clue about the other one’s feelings? It’s not like either of them suffered from self-esteem issues; consequently that aspect of the will-they-or-won’t-they plot dragged on a bit longer than it really should have. But once they do make the leap, things happen pretty fast and there’s all kinds of cuteness (I especially loved the rules revision regarding pants!!!) that almost made me forget my earlier frustration with them both.
Still, this was a fun weekend read–romance and light comedy; you can’t go wrong!
Rating: 4 stars / B
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
5 “Oreo” Stars
My addiction to everything Emma Hart continues in The Roommate Agreement. This friends to lovers RomCom is good for the soul. Shelby is quirky and fun and despite the fact that Jay is a total Oreo stealing slob, she finds herself falling for him…big time. These two couldn’t be more opposite if they tried, and it’s true that opposites attract. These two were absolutely adorable together with fantastic chemistry that will definitely swoon you. The Roommate Agreement is another laugh so hard you snort read and I loved every single page.

I love a good friends to lovers book and this one fit the bill. Shelby and Jay are best friends and now roommates. You could feel the sexual tension between them even though neither one will admit it. I loved the playful banter between the two. It’s one of my favorite things about the book. I was sucked into the story right from the beginning. I could hardly put this book down. I loved the characters little quirks they just added so much to the story. I would highly recommend this book!
Jay and Shelby have an agreement to keep things easy, but it just might be their downfall. Jay is a quintessential man child. He’s never really grown up, but living with his bestie just might he the push he needs to grab life by the horn. Shelby couldn’t be more sweet if she was made from sugar, but she is start to lose her ever loving mind where it comes to Jay. There rules for coming living were just supposed to make it easier to cohabit, but they just keep finding themselves fall even harder for one another.

Review:
I’m really grateful I received this book. Emma’s books are always fun to read and this one is no exception.
It’s a fun and relatable book. For a second I thought this could have been Emma’s own story but it wasn’t.
What is this book about:
This book is about Shelby and Jay. Both of them have been friends for a very long time. Their friends and family expected them to end up together at some point and they always laughed at that idea.
After Jay was about to become homeless he moved in with Shelby. It was suppose to be temporary. They weren’t suppose to be attracted at each other. Will they be brave enough to try and take their relationship to the next level or will their fear of losing each other keep them from taking the next step?

Everyone needs a lighthearted book that makes you laugh sometimes. This book was just what I needed and I loved it.
Loving this new romcom from Emma Hart. I’m a big fan and this book was a joy to read. Shelby and Jay were great , funny characters.
It’s never a question as to whether or not I will enjoy one of Emma Hart’s romantic comedies. Her stories are fun, sexy, and quirky, and are guaranteed to have me smiling from start to finish. THE ROOMMATE AGREEMENT, her latest, has everything that I have come to expect, and is a feel-good story that is not to be missed.
I likely say this after each of Emma’s books, but Jay and Shelby are some of my favorites of her characters to date. Plenty of snark, an easiness born of knowing each other for a very long time, and, yep, the suddenly realized sexual tension. They are great together, and, I have to say, Jay just made me smile with the way that he handled Shelby in all of her offbeat sensibilities.
Brie and Sean, besties to Shelby and Jay, are laugh-out-loud funny, making an already enjoyable book even better. Emma has absolutely honed her craft with these rom-coms, and I am always happy when they show up on my e-reader.
THE ROOMMATE AGREEMENT is perfect for anyone looking for a book chock full of sass, steam, and plenty of smiles. If it’s not on your TBR, it absolutely should be, so grab it and enjoy.

The Roommate Agreement is an entertaining, fun and sexy read with Emma Hart’s signature brand of fun, quirky humor.
I thoroughly enjoyed Jay and Shelby’s story, but it was their fun and flirty interactions and witty and charming banter that kept me completely enthralled. Being best friends this pair of opposites are completely aware of each others faults but still undeniably attracted to each other, and the sexual tension between them just oozes off the page.
If you love a fast paced friends to overs romantic comedy told in a dual point of view, i ghighly recommend The Roommate Agreement.
With the Roommate Agreement, Emma Harte delivers a fun, fresh and romantic story. This book has humour and it’s witty, sweet, romantic, hot, and sexy and has lots of scorching chemistry between the main characters.
Shelby is a strong willed, feisty and funny woman who puts up a good front about not allowing her emotions to consume her. She is an indie writer and, she likes everything to be well organised. When she decides to help her best friend by offering him to stay in the spare room, she never expected Jay to turn her life upside down and to eat all her OREOS (which is a serious offense!). They have been friends for such a long time that the only way to save their friendship- while they live under the same roof- is by having a Roommate agreement that would lay out the rules #SheldonStyle.
However, she also realises that what she feels for Jay might compromise her relationship with her best friend. You could feel the connection between them.
Would Jay and Shelby survived the Roommate agreement? Is it just a crush or is it more?
It was funny, sweet and sexy at the same time. The Roommate Agreement is a hilarious freaking, awesome, laugh out loud book with two ridiculously adorable characters!
Emma Hart’s books never cease to amaze me and this book followed suit and had me hooked from the very beginning.
Shelby is a tad OCD when it comes to certain aspects of her life. She is struggling writer that knows to meet ends she need a roommate to pay rent/bills. When Shelby’s best friend is about to be homeless she decides to take him in, expecting it to only last a few months.
Jay is your typical male. He tends to leave things every where and this drives Shelby crazy. Jay runs one of his father’s gym and tends to have many of the guys over to watch sports, which again drives Shelby crazy and also hinders her work.
What happens when these best friends/roommates start to realize that their feelings have started to change? Will they risk the 20 plus years of friendship for true love?
Emma has a way with words that keeps you fully invested in the book. These words also engross all types of emotion, from laughter, love to hate/upset at the characters.
I can’t wait to be sucked into another one of Emma’s book.
Let’s be real here, if you have a best friend of the opposite sex they are one of two things: Your sibling or your crush. In the case of both Shelby and Jay they act like siblings filled with the fighting, name-calling, real-talk, and rough-housing. But both of them want the other in a more intimate way and are in COMPLETE DENIAL. After moving in with her, Jay has become a nuisance to introvert Shelby (#IntrovertForTheWin). He eats her prized snacks, doesn’t clean up after himself, and invited the hoard of his gym buddies over every weekend to take over her living room. But despite all that, she’s undeniable attracted to him and having him walk around in just his basketball shorts is detrimental to her fortitude and her work ethic. Hence, The Roommate Agreement (inspired by both Shelby and Hart’s love of The Big Bang Theory). Rules set in place to keep her home tidy and her libido in check. But a few glasses of wine sets allllll that ablaze when her inner vixen comes out to confess her feelings to Jay.
Jay is all about his new roomie, she’s his bestie after all. Like the kid sister he’s always had cause they’ve known each other 20+ years. But now that he’s seen her in deadline mode, tiny pajama set mode, and fresh-faced no-makeup mode, there’s a startling change to Jay’s emotions. It’s undeniably attracted to his best friend and he’s just signed on to her lease. Accepting the Roommate Agreement is the least he can do to keep distance between them so he doesn’t cross a line. But what happens when she crosses that line? Oh all bets are off and Jay’s going to kiss her like she’s never been kissed. Now they just have to figure out how two best friends that live together can now enter into the world of dating and learning that side of each other.
Jealousy, drama, humor, embarrassing baby photos. This romance truly has it all. It’s a bit of a slow burn with a teaaaaasing middle, but it so worth the wait my readers. Shelby’s introvert side battling against Jay’s extrovert side is absolutely hysterical. I’ve been there; I get that; it’s so awkward. But these two have the benefit of being best friends who know each other inside and out. Throw in the romance and its 20 years (well less because they were children) of pent up lust and want exploding between them. I loved it so much! I was metaphorically (because e-reader) flipping page after page desperate to find out when these two would finally get their heads out of their butts. Another great win from Hart!
