Wonderful Victorian mystery
An easy read
Different, intruiging, kept me reading til the end, then wanted more.
Enjoyable reading
Good story. Good characters. Nice historical insights.
It seems slow at first but provides a vivid glimpse of the time period.
I liked this book for its characters and plot
I found that reading a Victorian era novel was interesting for its historical insights including the novelty of the protagonist being a woman newspaper reporter in an age that employed few if any women at all in that profession.
Kept my interest through the book and I did not get The Who done it till the end love that.
Excellent storytelling, characters very realistic and background of the slums of London in the 1880’s intriguing. This was a great murder mystery suspenseful to the very last page.
I enjoyed this book very much. It’s well-written and entertaining, while remaining clean and cozy.
3.5/5
This one was just OK for me. I wasn’t bowled over by the first in series, and I’m feeling the same about this one.
The story involves a series of murders around St. Giles’ Rookery in London (1884). But while the plot was fine (although a bit slow in spots and the denouement was a bit sketchy), I found the writing a little stilted and didn’t connect well with the characters.
I don’t think I have enough interest to continue on here.
Great read!
I love THE ROOKERY because it combined my love of romance and mystery. Penny Green is caught up in the very murders she is covering for her newspaper in Victorian London. Her old crush, James Blakely of Scotland Yard, is investigating the killings. Will be be able to keep Penny safe? If you love mysteries and history, you’ll love this book.
All Penny Green books are outstanding.
Liked the heroine, a great deal.
Late Victorian London is (was?) a fascinating place. These characters are fascinating dwellers in that place. I loved the book.
I’ve read all in this series and enjoyed them all.
I love the Penny Green series! I love how Emily Organ has so much wonderful background in her books. I love the characters and the plot twists. Fantastically written! I will be back for more!
I really liked the plot and the ending was surprising. There was a hint of romance and nothing was really resolved there. I did wish that part was finished in the story. Maybe in the next book?
