This was the perfect read for a cold winter’s day. It really got my blood flowing!
The characters in this story are fascinating. Nobody is what they seem and the interactions between the characters can be very intense. Henrietta is looking for an escape from her betrothal. She decides to blackmail a pirate (shaking my head) and gets kidnapped on his ship when the Revenuers show up. The story takes another turn and we find out the Rogue is actually the brother of the Earl Henrietta is betrothed. The antics the villains take on are amusing and sometimes downright stupid. The brothers are both forces to be reckoned with and to be avoided. Most stories have a point where the story takes a turn, but this one takes several before Lawrence can get it through his head, he is stuck with Henrietta.
Pirates. A feisty heroine. And a lord who isn’t as he seems… All the makings of a delicious read.
Henri (Henrietta) is far from conventional for a woman of her time. She wants adventure, but even more, she wants to be loved. Money and titles aren’t enough for her. Needless to say, the day she saved a pirate changed her life forever.
Captain Savage isn’t just a pirate. There are mystery and intrigue surrounding him, and a past he thought long gone. He’s not the sort to settle down, and certainly doesn’t think he’s good enough for the likes of Henri, but she’s determined to prove him wrong.
There were moments I laughed out loud, sighed, or frantically flipped the pages to see what happened next. With just enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat, a rogue who tries to do the right thing, and a woman who will settle for nothing less than the man she loves, this book is definitely worthy of 5-stars and then some.
Henri is such a great heroine – she is a woman of strength and stands up for herself and goes after what she wants. I love that she had the courage to confront and black mail a pirate in his lair even when she is afraid, she is brave. It is very easy to understand how Lawrence falls for her.
Lawrence is also a very lovable scapegrace. Sexy, formidable but still a gentleman rogue. Great cast of characters, and lively story line. I am definitely looking forward to reading more of Emma Leech’s books!
Unnecessary detail then frustrating vagueness. The beginning starts out with enormous detail put into the various fabric in the shop. I like fashion but I’m no seamstress so it was all noise to me. Then in the middle of a battle scene there is a deliberate decision to cut off the flow of action to make it even more dangerous upon resuming. But if you go unconscious in a battle the chances of you never waking up are astronomical. She falls unconscious and then literally falls and doesn’t die. How inept of a killer do you have to be.
Good, but slightly predictable plot, characters are more developed than your basic regency romance. At times the pacing was agonizingly slow, at other times the reader is asked to buy into some unbelievable plot lines. Overall this is a good, quick, weekend read.
Quick read. Nice sweet ending. Would have liked more building of the relationship between the two more. But good book.
The Rogue by Emma V. Leech is a very good read. I’ve discovered I like Emma’s books. I’d actually read the 2nd one in this series first (which I absolutely adored) so my expectations were very high when reading this one. This is a very good book but IMO not quite as good as The Earl’s Temptation. The good thing about reading this one is it gave me much appreciated background information I did not have when reading the 2nd book first. There are strong lead characters in this book, Henri (Henrietta) and Captain Savage. A lot of good periphery characters who also appear in the 2nd book. Emma does a good job of drawing us into the adventures of her characters and how they find their HEA. That’s what counts, right?
I hope Emma Leech continues in the historical romances! This was a charming, funny and exciting book with lovable characters!
Great read. Highly recommended for historical romance lovers
My first steamy pirate read! Loved it! Makes me want to jump on a ship myself! Had me swooning!
The characters in this book were well developed. The heroine was ‘gutsy’, despite her fears. The story also flowed well, I didn’t feel bogged down in places. A good blend of romance and action. I intend to read the other books in this series.
After reading this I started reading the rest in the series. Hard to put down.
silly
This had a decent storyline, but was so poorly written that I almost couldn’t take it.
Relaxing afternoon read
Great read
I liked the characters. I liked the storyline.
Emma Leech has made a huge splash into historical romance with this delightful new series. The first in the series, The Rogue is an exciting glimpse into Regency era England with intriguing characters and a story impossible to put down.
The story is fast paced and engaging. It is well written and the story line keeps the readers interest. There are strong characters well developed. It has chemistry , romance, humor, suspense, and a little humor. I enjoyed reading and will read more of this authors work. I received this book as a gift and voluntarily give this review.
