I love this series already and I can’t wait for more!! Such mystery and intrigue surround all of the characters. Kasia and her sisters must remain safe for the future of all supernatural beings. That means staying away from dragons. But fate has other plans for her, which will either result in a happy ending…or her death.
5 stars!!
This was a different paranormal at just the right time. It has a mix of two of my favorites in it so I was more than drawn to it as would most paranormal readers. Kasia is the stuff of legend writers so her character intrigued me. In this she is a treasure for sure.
Brand is the other one in this that draws my attention with his mystery being a form of honey. You are allured into this one to follow these two as the story unfolds being drawn into a world where it will take wits to survive though. Both of them are revealed forming a visual that you carry as you take in the heat.
Fast and action filled this is one once the teeth are in better step back if someone tries to pull it away. Good beginning to a very promising series.
LOVED IT FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE NEXT
Tearful opening. Informative opening. Hope in the opening.
Kasia finds her life has taken a huge turn and she not sure if its for the best or the worse. She had a somewhat sheltered life. And now on her own she had to use the skills taught to her over the years. Alone but not, Kasia finds that life has something more in store for her.
Brand finds himself on the hunt for a key to the dragon shifter world. He finds that its his key to reclaiming what’s his or at the least getting his revenge for a wrong done him long ago. Brand was the outcast, the rogue, the feared. At least to some point he was and wasn’t. He finds that scent that activates his protective instincts. He will do what is needed to protect Kasia because she is the key to his revenge. She becomes so much more.
There were fantastic characters both good and bad. All of which you want to know more about. The full glimpse in to so many characters and you could still tell and feel this story was about Brand and Kasia. There was action, intensity, chemistry, passion. There were plots and secrets. The simple fact that it was dragon shifters was just enough for me but the rest of it all made it all come together and just take on more. A phoenix. Some wolf shifters. A few vampires. A bit more dragon shifters. A prize that was to be had.
The fire, the heat, the chemistry between one sassy, feisty phoenix and a rogue, alpha, dangerous dragon was off the charts good. Abigail Owen has put down a terrific start to a new shifter series that will have me coming back for each and every installment. It was more than the characters. The plot. The action. The danger. The eluding of what’s to come. The ride that some characters will have to take to find that elusive dream of forever.
It has been a while since I have read a paranormal book. When I saw the description for this story and the opportunity came up to read an early copy I immediately signed up.
This is a first Abigail Owen book for me and I am completely OBSESSED with this world!! Paranormal used to be my all time favorite genre and at one point it was all I read. This story has left me wanting to dive back into this genre and read everything!! This was also my first Dragon shifter book and it left me wondering why I’ve never read about this before.
The second book can not come fast enough. I will be checking out more work by Ms. Owen to keep me busy while I wait!! ABSOLUTE MUST READ!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
This is connected to another series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. The author does an amazing job of gradually building her world filled with shifters, witches, vampires, and many other kinds of supernatural beings. There is lots of action, humor, suspense, and romance. The main characters are so well revealed that you feel like you know them personally and are fully invested in every action and decision they make. The secondary characters are interesting and make you desire to learn more about them in coming books in the series. The book doesn’t end in a cliff hanger, but the major conflict isn’t over. The author ends with implying which couple will be featured in the next book in the series.
The Rogue King is the first book in the Inferno Rising series, and has firmly placed this author on my favourites list, even though this is the first book of hers I have read!
It has quite a sad beginning, which sets the story for the rest of it. You immediately get a feel of who is ‘good’ and who is ‘bad’, even if the characters themselves are unsure just where they belong. Speaking of the characters, I loved Brand and Kasia. They are the perfect match, and I loved Kasia’s stubborn, feisty, yet at times oh-so-logical attitude. Brand is the possessive alpha who has no idea he’s met the woman who is his perfect match.
The story is intriguing from start to finish, and I really want to continue with this series. I need to know more about each of the sisters, and just what their stories will be. The epilogue is intriguing and I can’t wait to see the sparks between Skylar and Ladon.
It’s not very often I will give out a five-star review for the first of a series, but this one just ticked all of my boxes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Absolutely recommended by me.
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Archaeolibrarian – I Dig Good Books!
I enjoyed this exciting read. I found Brand and Kasia’s story very interesting. This is book one of a new dragon shifter series. I liked the epic feeling to this book and series. The combination of shifters, myth, adventure, lore, royalty, danger, action, fantasy, romance and political intrigue makes for a very compelling reading. Brand and Kasia made a wonderful pair. Their attraction was intense, their banter was sharp and clever and they generated lots of sparks each time they clashed. Kasia, I felt for her life was filled with so much turmoil and strife. Hunted like a coveted prize, destined to be used as a pawn and seen as the ultimate tool of power; peace, safety and happiness are only a memory. Brand has a painful past and a thirst for revenge. His emotional struggle is acute as his desire for retribution and his desire for Kasia war with each other. A very enjoyable book and entriguing start to the series.
I love a dragon shifter book and have read others by this author. This is a different book as it features dragons and a Phoenix <3
Brand is a rogue dragon, his on a mission for a dragon king. I really liked him, he tries to keep his distance from the lady his escorting but there is something about her.
Kasia, she lost her mum and was split from her sisters for her own protection, all because she is a rare breed of preternatural. She is no shrinking violet and is a perfect match for the sometimes brooding Brand.
My favourite scene is in Brands own house/dragon cave.
The author adds the perfect amount of chemistry mixed in with an engaging storyline.
A PNR read to add to your TBR.
Fantasy is not my first choice. This book has pretty much all the players, vampires, demons, werewolves, hellhounds, witches, phoenixes and of course dragons. Much treachery, angst, violence and steam. The story basis is good, got a little lost in the violence and skirmishes. If you love fantasy, this story is for you.
As much as I’ve enjoyed this authors Dragon stories I’ve never given a 5 rating until now and this book deserves it ! We have Brand a rogue Dragon desperate for revenge and loyal to the King of the Blue Dragons but unfortunately he is not trusted by many. His latest mission is to track down the impossible and that is the last Phoenix. Kasia saw her mother die because of a Dragon so has absolutely no reason to trust any of them but when her existence is discovered its Brand who fights by her side !
As I previously stated I am enjoying this world that the author has created and this story just further cemented my joy in discovering this author. Brand is the perfect hero compassionate, brave and loyal whilst Kasia was strong, determined and hilarious ( slight spoiler she steals his car ! ). For this reader the next book with the King of the Blues facing a whole new challenge cannot come soon enough.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
The Rogue King (Inferno Rising, #1) by Abigail Owen ..this is a new author to me..so glad I found her..thanks to the publisher and #NetGalley for letting me preview this new series. Kasia Amon (phoenix in hiding with her mother and sisters) Brand Astarot(rouge dragon) Their journey together is full of angst, violence, deception, suspense, murder…but also laughter, tears, love, steam. They do not fall into instant love but work their way there… There are some evil characters, friends ( I love Maul) working together to get to their HEA there still some loose ends that I am sure will get to in the nest book. I hope Skylar (Kasia’s sister) and Landon (Blue dragon king) will be the next book.
Paranormal books will always be my first love in reading. They are my go to books and I love finding new to me authors that catch my attention. Abigail Owen did just that with this book.
Her writing drew me in from the very beginning. She has created a world that I didn’t want to leave. This book had me turning the pages as fast as I could because I didn’t want to wait to see what was going to happen next. The characters are well developed, and the action is non-stop.
Kasia is hiding for a very good reason but when she is discovered her world turns into chaos. In a world where she doesn’t know who to trust, if anyone, she is alone now. When Brand finds her and confirms what she is, they start on a trip that is supposed to lead them down one path but with everything happening, who knows where it will really lead them.
Brand is on a mission and has been on the same mission since he was young. He is out for revenge. Kasia is a small part in his plan but a necessary one. He has a singular focus that cannot be broken, or can it?
I loved these characters and I loved watching them both grow into the people/shifters they were truly meant to be. I am anxiously awaiting the next book and know I will devour that one just like I did this one.
The Rogue King is a great start to a new series by Abigail Owen. Right from the prologue, the story pulls you in. You are already a witness to what a mother will do to protect their young. This is Kasia’s story.
Kasia and her three younger sisters were separated for their protection and each have been in hiding for the past year. Kasia had to come out of hiding when uncontrollable events starts to happen to her. Unfortunately, her possible lineage may have been outed and the first to find her is a rogue dragon shifter, Brand Astarot. From their first meeting, you can already see the connection between the two. But Kasia is unable to trust so she tries to run, unfortunately she was no match for Brand and his determination to bring her in.
A lot happens before the happily ever after for Kasia and Brand, despite their attraction and amazing chemistry, it is Brand’s mission for revenge that keeps them apart. It was actually really frustrating for me waiting for the two of them to figure out what they mean to each other. There is some heartbreak, tough decisions that are made, and some intense battle scenes but they eventually get their HEA.
Despite my frustrations with Brand, the action packed scenes and the great banter between Kasia and Brand definitely kept my interest. I really enjoyed their story and after that epilogue, I can’t wait for the next in this series.
Thank you Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This is book 1 in the Inferno Rising series. It’s about Brand Astarot and Kasia Amon. Brand is a rogue who has been sent to find the one being who is basically a one way ticket to the high throne. Delivering her to the Blood King will earn him a place in the clan and move him one step closer to giving him his chance at retribution. Kasia has been in hiding her whole life and is just trying to not only survive but to try to stay out of the hands of the dragons. What she never expects is for her kidnapper/protector to become someone that she comes to care about. But can he truly be trusted?
This is the first book I have read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last one! I absolutely loved it! Kasia has this perfect attitude and I absolutely loved everything about her!! Even with everything that has happened since before her birth, she still manages to find things to make herself somewhat happy. Brand has been through absolute hell and still hasn’t learned to let go of his need for revenge. However, he is finally learning that there are more important things than revenge. And reading about his struggles just makes you love him even more. I can’t wait for the next book in this series and it is a definite must read for me!
I loved Kasia! She was spirited, resourceful, and full of surprises! She made no bones about having an opinion and when facing a roomful of dragon shifters, that’s saying something! She also had the coolest creature for a pet, even if he left a smoky smell behind. And then there’s Brand. He was awesome! A rogue dragon shifter with a mercenary status and hidden secrets, even other shifters don’t really mess with him. He also underestimated Kasia once, but it was enough for him to figure out he’s met his match. Too bad he’s retrieving her for someone else and not himself…
Brand and Kasia’s connection was sweltering hot and their interactions had me smiling like crazy. Even when things were serious, since I never knew what these two would do next! Since trouble always seemed to find Kasia, I also knew I was in for a wild ride! And I kept my fingers crossed Brand would realize what he’d be missing out on if he truly did his job.
I literally devoured this book in a few hours! The Rogue King was a thrilling read! There’s so much happening in this book, but what stood out…a few spies, lots of secrets, some sexy, protective dragon shifters, wolf shifters, a fantastic battle with really mad dragons, and a smoking hot romance that could burn the ground down! This is book one of the Inferno Rising series and according to the author’s newsletter, is a crossover story from the Fire’s Edge series. While I think this book could be read by itself, I believe there would be more enjoyment if you start with the previous series.
Then again, who needs an excuse to read about dragon shifters?!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
