As the owner of Rocky Peak’s favorite bar, easygoing Jake Rockwell is everyone’s rock and best friend. But now he needs serious help from the gorgeous and fierce investigator Olivia James—and it’s going to kill him to keep things strictly professional between them. It’s been a long, hard-fought battle to go from naïve ex-trophy wife to respected private investigator, but Olivia has done it. She … done it. She now offers her services only to women in need…but she’s made an exception for a friend. Which might possibly be the biggest mistake of her life, since Jake is as maddening as he is charming…and thoughtful…and insanely hot.
The closer they work together and the more Rockwell family secrets they expose, the harder it is for Olivia and Jake to resist their sizzling connection. But their burning almost-romance is about to go up in flames as they uncover the final revelation that could blow Jake’s world apart—forever.

Jennifer Bernard is so good at writing romantic suspense. This is the fifth book in this series and I was riveted by the ongoing mystery that continued from book 4. I liked that this book kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat at times too. The sparks that fly between sexy Jake and the private investigator, Olivia could start a fire. Jake can put it out. He is also a volunteer fireman. He really was the rock for the whole family and Rocky Peak. If you like sexy, steamy romances you will love this book.
I could not put the book down as I was drawn into the mystery surrounding who Gracie’s biological parents were, why Jake’s mom was killed in a car accident, and to Jake’s and Olivia’s fake relationship to something more. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Jake, the final Rockwell, hires a PI, Olivia James, that his brother in law knows, to finally find out who killed their Mom. Olivia usually works for women, but makes an exception for Jake, and the other Rockwell’s. In full fashion, the book brings together romance, suspense, and of course smoking hot bedroom action. Luckily it is all cleared up at the end, we find out what happened to their Mom, Amanda, and the Rockwells get a romance worthy send off.
This was the final book in the Rockwell series, all 5 books were awesome. I am sad that the series is over, but I am excited to see what is coming next from Jennifer Bernard.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Having read and enjoyed so many books by this author, I don’t know why I waited to read this series. This was the fifth book in the series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, it did make me want to go back and read the other books in the series. Jake is the rock of the family and it just so happens he is the last single guy of the clan. And Jake has no plans to change his single status anytime soon. That fits in well when he starts working with Olivia, a PI that has lots of ground rules. Including that they have strictly a working relationship and nothing more. Too bad they have such chemistry with one another! Once again Jennifer Bernard has created a cast of characters that you just can’t help loving. All in all, a terrific read!
The last book in a really great series – I was especially looking forward to this one. Jake is the last single man standing in the Rockwell family and likes his life just the way it is with one exception – he is haunted by his mother’s death and determined to find answers and put the past behind him. This journey leads him to private investigator Olivia James – yeah, keep kidding yourself that it’s only business, Jake! The author did a great job of blending mystery, intrigue, suspense, danger and romance without any of those elements overshadowing each other. But the steamy scenes that went along with that suspense were definitely smokin’ hot – I was certain my Kindle was going to melt! A really great series that I would highly recommend.
The Rock was the perfect ending to Jennifer Bernard’s Rockwell series.
Jake has questions…questions about the family mystery that has influenced him and his siblings’ lives. His best bet is private investigator, Olivia.
As danger dogs their steps and they get closer to the answers Jake seeks, their bond grows stronger and their love for each other becomes unmistakable.
I read an advanced copy of this book
The Rock is the final book in The Rockwell Legacy series. Each book is a stand alone but they contain many of the same characters & follow after each other on the timeline. The next book starts where the previous book ended. I was really sad to see this series come to an end. I’ve eagerly awaited each new story. While these books are classified as romances, they also have the mystery of what happened to their mother years ago.
Jake Rockwell is the last single Rockwell & he’s content to keep that title. He’s also the only one that continues to wonder about his mother. He’s been everyone’s rock for years. Now that they are all settled, he’s looking for the final answers.
Olivia James is a professional private investigator. She usually only works for women but has made an exception for Jake. She just needs to set ground rules because he has a habit of breaking the rules & interfering. He’s exasperating & a pain. Why can’t she tell him no & forget about him?
I really enjoyed these characters. Jake needed someone strong enough to hold their own against him & also let him lean on them. Olivia needed someone who could back her up but also give her space when she needs it. With all of the twists the mystery is taking & dangerous situations they find themselves in, they needed to be able to trust each other implicitly. The entire Rockwell family has been drawn closer together by the loss of their mother years ago & their father being gruff & unyielding. As each member found their significant other, they’ve been accepted & absorbed into the family as if they’ve always been there. This story was the perfect conclusion to this series & wraps everything up nicely.
Jennifer Bernard brings everything to the table when writing a stellar book. The Rockwell series has been fantastic and I’ve loved reading every single one, The Rock being no exception. Jake Rockwell was the last single sibling, but aside from that he was also the sibling investigating the final pieces to the mystery surrounding his mother’s death.
Each book, and each sibling prior, added to the layers and overall arc that has now brought us to this final destination. I can tell you that Jennifer Bernard did not disappoint and you will love the finish to this series.
With humor, steamy good times, suspense, mystery, and lots of family time, The Rock is the perfect ending to The Rockwell Legacy.
Jake Rockwell has employed Olivia James, Private Investigator, to help him piece together all the clues that he has (or his family has) already gathered up to this point. As Jake gives Olivia all of the details, you find just how many layers there are to this mystery, but it also shows that if you wanted to read this book as a standalone, you really could. Jennifer does an excellent job recounting the facts if you’ve missed any books up to this point.
As Jake and his siblings continue the quest to find information, Olivia and Jake’s chemistry is off the charts, plus their humor is infectious. Jake is extremely likeable and breaks through Olivia’s high walls with his charm, but is it enough to keep to them together permanently once they solve the case? He would like nothing better than to keep Olivia by his side, but he has a strong feeling that he is seen as just a good time.
Olivia has damage from an ex and she has a hard time letting Jake in, even though he is very easy to like. Their relationship comes so easy that she hardly notices that one is forming. She’s never felt so at ease with anyone, including being just herself ever. Will she be able to walk away from Jake and his family when the case is closed or could she take a leap of faith and actually be with Jake?
The Rock has everything you could want. Sit down, cozy up with the Rockwells, and fall in love with this series.
Satisfying Ending to a Great Series!
The Rock is the final book in the Rockwell Legacy series and features Jake, the good time guy who’s really the glue of the family, and Olivia, the PI he’s hired to solve the ongoing Rockwell family mystery.
I absolutely loved Jake and Olivia. He was so sure of himself that she couldn’t resist him but he was also so careful about being respectful and supportive. Jennifer Bernard beautifully wove a love story with social commentary on several modern women’s issues.
The final piece of the Rockwell family mystery was completely unexpected and over the top but at the same time worked perfectly. I’m sad to see the series end but the final chapter was a wonderful family check in and I’m sure we will see one or more the family again, as one of my favorite things about Jennifer Bernard is that she loves to create little links between all her worlds.
THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING! The Rock is the 5th book in the Rockwell Legacy by one of my very favorite authors, Jennifer Bernard. This book broke my heart, gave me happy tears, had drama, injury, death, love, mystery, family… it had all the feels, and most of all…gave the series (and me) closure.
The Rock is the final sibling’s story…bar owner, Jake Rockwell. He is determined to help solve the mystery of his sister Gracie’s history, and with the help of PI Olivia James it may just happen, the same Olivia who is determined to keep this situation JUST professional.
“This meeting with Olivia James was all about business. Nothing more, nothing less.”
From the start they can feel the electricity between them, but she has been on the undesirable side of a marriage before and is determined to stand her ground. They are able to dig deep and find answers, but hopefully not at the expense of someone they know.
“Human nature is human nature, wherever you are. Greed is greed, revenge is revenge, cruelty is cruelty.”
The characters are so wonderfully written and the scenery is so descriptive that you can visualize what is happening and where. All of the Rockwell family, as well as significant others (which were acquired throughout the series) are in this final book of the series.
“Rockwell Motto: “Laugh so you don’t cry.” ”
Author Jennifer Bernard writes such an incredible story line that flows so perfectly! I know any time I read a book from her, I am in for something amazing…and The Rock seals the deal. This whole series is fantastic and I whole-heartedly recommend this you-won’t-be-able-to-put-it-down book and series with 5 stars! (I would give it more but it won’t let me, LOL). You definitely want to read this series from the start…but you won’t regret it!
I have been reading this author’s books since she first started writing and have always loved her series/stories. As I start/finish each one, I think: THIS is my favorite series! She can’t top this….and with The Rockwell Legacy series, imho, she does. I read the first book about the Rockwell siblings, a story about Kai, and knew I’d love the family and couldn’t wait to get to the bottom of the overall story arc and then to each sibling’s story. With The Rock, the last book about the Rockwells, for me, Jake Rockwell hit it out of the park.
Yes, The Rock is a standalone however each book brings its own mystery and intrigue to the table. But it is Jake who helps solve the biggest mystery of all: what happened to their mother. And yes, there are a couple of other stories for him to “solve” and for that he has a “true professional” (you’ll understand my comment when you read the book) to help: Olivia James, Private Investigator. Jake and Olivia are truly well-matched. Their budding HEA is fun, and funny; dangerous; complicated; and truly touching to read. Jake has his family “issues” to deal with that need to be resolved before he can move on in life. Olivia…hooboy! The only person she can trust in this world is her brother and partner/fellow PI (a character I LOVED and a true smart aleck). Her family, past friends, and ex are (let’s say) people I would not like. Reading about how Olivia and Jake work past each of their own trust issues, and how they navigate a road to an HEA, was wonderful. I cannot do the story justice, at all, nor will I give out any spoilers, but the characters – Jake’s family, Olivia’s brother – they ALL help these two see that they were made for each other.
I can’t say enough about this story and series. I will miss the Rockwells…yes, even Max…but am eagerly looking forward to whatever new book Ms. Bernard writes.
All the stars! I absolutely loved this last installment of what has been such an amazing and entertaining series. I’m sad to see it end, but what a way to go out! We finally get all the answers we have been waiting for with some shocking revelations and some very intense action. All of this is intertwined with an incredible love story for the last of the single Rockwell’s, Jake. I just love Jake, he is the “rock” of the Rockwell family, a volunteer firefighter and he runs his own bar. I have been looking forward to his story. Despite how busy he is, he puts all of that aside and will not stop until he gets to the bottom of the mystery about the death of his Mom and Grace’s birth parents so he hires an investigator in LA to help. Olivia James is more than willing to help the sexy, charming and witty, Jake, but despite their attraction and obvious chemistry she has no intentions of anything else happening. She has no plans of ever settling down again after her bad experience, but Jake won’t give up on her. He knows they could have something special. They are fun together and very sexy too. I love how their relationship organically blossoms. I truly loved this story which as always makes me feel like I am right there with them in Rocky Peak and is so well written. I also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the entire Rockwell family again.
Jake & Olivia’s Story is Book 5 of The Rockwell Legacy series. Each book is about one of the Rockwell siblings & their journey to a happily ever after. Easy going bar-owner, volunteer firefighter & all around great guy Jake is his family’s “rock”. Trying to solve a family mystery leads him to no-nonsense private investigator Olivia. When these two opposites team up, sparks fly & they find out maybe they aren’t so different after all. How they unravel long-hidden secrets and fall in love in the process makes for a great read. I fell in love with Jake & Olivia and I bet you will too!
