That grin should come with a warning label. ‘Addictive. May cause dizziness, heart palpitations, dampened underwear, and a lifetime of regret.’I’ve got plenty of reasons to hate Sebastian Monroe, the sexy lead singer of Heat Lightning. 1.) He doesn’t remember our soul-scorching kiss ten years ago. 2.) He very rudely refused to play at my home town’s 300th anniversary celebration. And 3.) He’s a … 3.) He’s a hotel trashing, arrogant, hot mess. Really hot. Sooo hot…
Turns out, though, that I’ve got something he needs: the ability to mend his tattered reputation. He needs a fake fiancée, to make people think he’s left behind his hell-raising ways. And I’m willing to play nice to get what I want — a hometown appearance of America’s hottest Southern rock band.
And now that I’m pretending to be his fiancée, I’ve got plenty of reasons to love Sebastian Monroe: 1.) Turns out he’s just as good a kisser as he always was. 2.) He’s hiding a big secret and a kinder heart than anyone gives him credit for. And 3.) Our little act is starting to feel just as real off-stage as on.

I loved the book. I loved the quirky and interesting characters . They make you want to go to the town and meet them. The main Characters: Callie is very strong and determined not to fail but will doubt her self at times. Sebastian is very strong but believes he has to take care of everyone and protect all of them. Callie and Sebastion run into a lot of conflict and is interesting reading how they overcome the conflict. Their are people trying to pull them apart such as podcast writer. It is interesting how the town is protective of Callie. This book will have you laughing and you won’t be able to wait to see what happens next. You will not be disappointed if you get this book.
After laughing my way through the first 2 books in this series, I definitely needed this one. Reed has a knack for one-liners and developing hilarious characters.
I absolutely hated Callie in book 1, A Billion Times No and ended up eagerly waiting for her to get her own book so I could see what her deal is. Well, this is it and it’s hard to hold onto my hate for her from the very beginning when the reader finds her in an unusual situation, being bullied while on a mission to help the family business.
The author does a good job of weaving comedy, drama, and a bit of mystery together to make this a fun read. I laughed aloud a time or two, and while the drama-side of things is a commonly used one, she still kept it fun with witty banter and fun characters. Makes for the perfect evening if you’re in need of something light and funny. It’s got that Southern-small-town feel too.
I really didn’t think I’d come around to Callie as anything other than a villain but I feel Reed did pull it off. She’s likeable and no worse than Savannah. Well played.
4 stars.
Note:
I both read the ebook and listened to the audiobook.
The digital book is formatted beautifully.
Audiobook:
This is a dual-narrator production. The female narrator is great, with a pleasant voice and manages to insert some of the southern accent, but I can still understand her. (I struggle pretty badly at understanding this normally.) But the accent comes and goes. She’s not the best actor if she can’t maintain an accent and it does distract from the reading experience at times. She mostly did a good job. 3.5-star performance.
The male’s voice is pretty painful to listen to; he’s not someone who should narrate audiobooks in my opinion. That said, his tone and emotion tended to be scene-appropriate. 3.5-star performance.
This was a laugh out loud, cute, second chance romance. I had so much fun reading this book! Callie and Shane dated a long time ago when they were younger but ultimately ended with broken promises and broken hearts. Years later they both end up needing each other’s help and as they start spending more time with each other those old feelings come back. Definitely wasn’t straightforward and easy, there were a lot a twists and moments where you’re wondering if they can overcome their past and move on. The characters all were wonderful, really bringing the story to life. Really loved Granda Mae! If you’re looking for a feel-good, laugh out loud rom-com, you won’t want to miss this book!

This author is new to me and I have to say, what a fabulous book to read as an introduction to her writing!! Callie and Shane were so vividly portrayed that I felt like I was experiencing every emotion right along with them! The secondary characters were also so very well-developed and I would love to read about a number of them with their own stories!

What starts of as fake certainly doesn’t stay that way. The characters have way to much undeniable chemistry to stay that way for long. I had fun with this storyline.

I loved This story. From page 1 you are drawn in. The writing style us amazing, the characters feel like your friends. There is a twist in the story that has you surprised and ends happy. You can easily relate to family dynamics, and trust issues it brings up. I very highly recommend this book, and look forward to reading more from this author.

This book was such a good read it had me laughing hard one second then filled me with so much angst the next second. Callie and Shane use to date when they were younger and a summer filled with heated kisses led to broken promises and resentment left for Callie. Years later Callie is in desperate need to help preserve her family legacy and hotel that has been in Swampy Bottom for generations so as a desperate woman she searches Shane out and he doesn’t even remember her or so she thinks. They are both full of regret and bitterness with words that were left unsaid but they both need each other’s help and this brings them closer together. There are a lot of twists, moments you want to scream at your reader, and times you will laugh so hard but can these two overcome a past full of regret and move on or will they let things, curses, and resentment come between them? There were so many secondary characters that just made the book like the band members, Grandma Mae, Fiona, etc and I hope we will get more of them especially Magnus.
