Great characters, especially the hunky detective and a bad guy you love to hate. As always, couldn’t put this one down. Definitely recommend for romantic suspense lovers.
The Road to Justice by Dianne McCartney
Relatively quick easy read that has suspense, romance, and a bit of sleuthing. This story was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.
What I liked:
* Alana Drake: author, assault survivor, strong, independent, business owner, successful, straightforward, liked her.
* Aidan Reese: detective, decorated military war veteran, homicide detective, intelligent, well-liked, good friend, supportive, good brother, liked him.
* The four dogs…Satan was superb
* Kate and Meg: Aidan’s sisters – they could have stories of their own
* Brian: ex of Alana’s with potential as he has improved with age…I think.
* The relationship being balanced between Aidan and Alana
* Aidan’s superior office at the police department – Mullens seems like a good guy
* That good overcame evil.
What I didn’t like:
* The person(s) I was meant not to like
* Knowing that abusers, rapists, and such live, breathe, and often get away with what they do.
* I felt that Dean was a bit simplistic in his thoughts and actions for someone his age with his supposed background BUT it was fine for the quick read it proved to be.
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? I think so
Thank you to NetGalley and The Wild Rose Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
As I read this story, I knew I was going to love it. As I continued reading, the story seemed familiar, but I wasn’t sure. I finally realized that I had read it before, but I so enjoyed it that I read it again! Detective Aidan Reese is trying to collect evidence against a man who he believes has abused and raped women. The difficulty is that the man is extremely wealthy and running for governor. When Aidan interviews Alana Drake, who knew the man years ago, he is impressed by her charm and strength and is very attracted to her. When she begins to receive creepy threats, they have crossed the line from friends to lovers. I like that the author is up front with who the prospective villain is and enjoy as he is thwarted at almost every turn. I have read other books by this author and have enjoyed her smart, strong heroines and the men they love. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. Detective Aidan Reese is investigating several crimes against women by a man who is running for governor. One attack has led to murder and Aidan is afraid there will be more deaths if he can’t get the proof he needs. Two women have already changed their minds about testifying in court.
One woman is left … Alana Drake, who coincidentally once dated Aidan’s best friend and cousin of the man he’s looking to put away. Living on a secluded ranch with her dogs and horses, she’s not happy when a detective arrives on her doorstep.
The attraction between the two is unexpected. Shortly after they meet, Alana is being stalked … has the man who assaulted her years ago now found her? Is this the man Aidan is looking to put away?
This is a romantic suspense in equal doses. While intimate moments are intense, they do not cross over into the erotic. The characters are finely drawn, It’s action-packed leading to an explosive conclusion.
Many thanks to the author / Wild Rose Press / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Suspense, humor, a bit of romance along with well-developed and believable characters contributed to my enjoyment of “The Road to Justice”. I enjoyed becoming “acquainted” with the main female character, Alana Drake. She is a confident, successful author whose life is thrown for a loop when she is contacted by a homicide detective. This story catches your attention from the beginning and keeps it until the final page.
