Praise for The Road Home…
I loved this riveting tale of hope and redemption. The Road Home comes to life with gorgeous imagery and a setting that eased me seamlessly and beautifully back and forth in time. Each character stood out, coaxing me into her story, making me want more. With the turn of every page there’s a revelation, something hidden or something wonderful and unexpected. The Road Home … Road Home is a must-read for any book lover and a perfect follow-up to The Last Letter.

Find your way home…
1891—Living separately for three years, fourteen-year-old twins, Katherine and Tommy Arthur, have done their best to make each boarding house feel like home. But unrest grows as they are driven to questionable actions just to survive. Meanwhile their desperate mother is confronted with breaking yet another promise to her children. Then a miracle descends. Hope rises on a cold, rainy night and changes everything. If Jeanie could just get word to Katherine and Tommy, she knows she can set their lives right again. Agitators, angels, and dangerous “saviors” illuminate the Arthurs’ unmatched determination and smarts.
1905—Though she tries to forget the awful years that hurt so much, the memories still haunt Katherine. Now, tearful mourners at her mother’s funeral force her to revisit a time in her life that both harmed and saved her in the most unexpected ways. Tommy grieves his mother’s passing as well. He too is thrust backward, compelled to rediscover the events in his life that shaped the man he has become. Will he commit to reconstructing his broken life? The Arthurs come to understand that forgiveness is the only way back to hope, the only way to find all that was good in the misfortune that transformed their lives forever.

I found this book to be disturbing on many levels. Cruelty to children and hardships made it a difficult read for me.
This book continues the story started in the first book The Last Letter. Overall I enjoyed this second book. Everyone has been separated and they are all trying to reunite. The author does a good job with the historical detail. The writing is good and it is easy to read. It is still too long and there is some repetition but the story is a good one. This series does have to read in order. I will continue to read this series. Enjoy
Loving the whole series
A bit wordy, but not as much so as The Last Letter
I read the 1st book in the series & it was much better. The Road Home was alot of repetition.
See my review of The Kitchen Mistress…loved all three books in the series
I wish the author would have gone into more detail of how the Arthur family got into the situation(s) they were in. Some of the questions left unanswered like why the Mother and Father divorced, what was behind the Mother farming her children out to others to raise, and what was the rift between Katherine and her Mother that caused them to separate after finding each other again. I’m reading the next book in the series to see if I can get some answers.
The book was thought provoking. It captures human nature at it’s worst and the will to survive.
Interesting, but I learned at the end that it was the middle book of a trilogy and don’t think I will bother with the other two.
The book jumps back and forth in time, along with from character to character in those different time periods. It left me lost and confused. It’s a rare book I give up on, but this one made it on that short list.
Great read! Truly enjoyed the well developed characters, as well as the setting in the late 1800s and early 1900’s. Very realistic and well written. Highly recommend!
While this book was well written and I enjoyed it, it was also difficult to read about people who have so many undeserved situations to deal with. I felt that the characters were well developed and I liked that the chapters were written from the perspective of the main characters. Many opportunities for them to make choices and grow stronger from the circumstances.
A very interesting look at some of America’s devastating environmental pollution along with the difficult decisions that women needed to make. I wanted to like the main character more.
Good read. Interesting characters. Thot the back and forth between years would lose track of the story but it worked well. May try the second in the series.
It would be better to have read all the books in sequence. This book covered a lot of ground but there were gaps that didn’t explain details that had been totally part of a previous book.
Too hard to keep up with the plot.
The Road Home is an interesting read. It’s about a family torn apart by ones lies. In this you see the road each one takes to go back home. Not easy roads. Something that can be and has been already faced by many.
LOVED BOOK, BUT WAS SURPRISED AT THE END TO LEARN THAT IT WAS THE 2ND IN A TRILOGY. TRYING NOW TO GET THE 3RD BECAUSE IT LEFT ME HANGING..’
Definitely should read first book in series, as this one kept referring to events that were not explained .
The first book I have read in a long time that I wanted to immediately finish the series.
