I’ve loved him from afar.Though most times he’s only a foot away. I’m smart enough to know he’ll never be anyone’s forever. He checks all the bad boy boxes. Tattoos. Check. Motorcycle. Check. Chip on his shoulder. Check check. If he wasn’t my neighbor and friend I may have thrown myself at him. Okay, yeah. I wouldn’t. Because guys like Dylan don’t want a woman who writes kid’s math textbooks under … writes kid’s math textbooks under him in bed. Instead, I pathetically savor morsels of moments where I have his sole attention.
That was until his archenemy moved in with me. Now suddenly, Dylan’s moving in too and warning off the first guy in a long time who’s showing me interest. Could he finally see me as more than a friend, or am I just a prize to win and show off to his enemy?

Ahh I was so so excited to get an arc of this book! I love the Rooftop Crew & I couldn’t wait to get back to this world. Piper & Rayne make such loveable series. I feel like I’ve waited for Dylan & Rian’s story since we met the gang in Blanca & Ethans book.
I loved these two. Their story was funny, cute, & steamy as hell. I loved getting to know more about bad boy Dylan & his childhood. I was worried about how he would handle his new relationship with Rian but he ended up surprising me.
I hated Rian’s parents throughout this entire book. She definitely had more going on in her life than I originally thought reading the other two books in the series.
These two both had a lot of decisions to make in this book. But I loved them together & this book does not disappoint. It lives up to the hype if you’ve been waiting for them as long as i have!
I received an arc of this book in return for an honest review.
Rival Roomies is book three in The Rooftop Crew series. It can be read as a standalone. Each book covers a different couple. The whole Rooftop Crew are interesting but this is the one I was most excited for. Rian is a cool girl. She’s super smart and loves math. She has a crush on Dylan but doesn’t think she’s his type. Dylan is a tattoo artist with a bad boy vibe. He has pass issues and doesn’t think he’s good enough. These two are opposites but they have a great connection and attraction. I loved this one. It’s a fun sweet read that lived up to the expectation I had. This one is my favorite in the series so far.

Rival Roomies was not what I was expecting and ended up being great. It contained all the aspects I look for in a book, drama, romance, chemistry, etc.
Rian is a total math scholar that enjoys baking more than doing what she does for a living, math. Rian is a force to be reckoned with and when she wants something, she goes for it. Her only downfall is her lack of being able to stand up to her parents. Her parents raked my nerves from the first time they were introduced and I could not wait for Rian to speak up and tell them where to shove it.
Next, we have Dylan, the complex man. Dylan’s past was touched within the book and it was less than pleasant, to say the least. However, once he gets his head out of his butt, he starts to realize what has been in front of him all along. But with a past like his, is there really a happy ending in his future?
Overall, Rival Roomies may have been different from what I expected, I have to say I enjoyed the read. I have not read the other books in the series yet and I will most definitely be reading them as soon as I can.
The Rival Roomies is everything I hoped it would be – funny, sweet, emotional…and real. Oh, and it is a friends to lovers romance. My favorite trope!
Readers of the series know that Rian has a serious thing for Dylan, and it is clear to anyone watching that Dylan feels the same way. What isn’t clear? Why he is so willing to push those feelings aside!
Well, in The Rival Roomies, we learn why, and we get to see a side of Dylan we haven’t seen before. Up until now, we have only seen the charming playboy. The bad boy tattoo artist with a fear of commitment. In TRR, we get to see the vulnerable, jealous, scared of being left behind Dylan. And it is worth every minute we’ve had to wait for this story.
Rian is brilliant. She is a math genius and a super-talented baker. But she is struggling to find her place in this world and that thing that truly makes her happy. She feels like a constant disappointment to her parents, and she just wants someone to love her for HER.
Dylan isn’t good with words or expressing how he feels. Fear and his past have kept him paralyzed and stuck in place for far too long. And it takes the very real possibility of losing Rian forever to finally kick him into gear.
The chemistry between these two is fire. But more importantly, they fit together so naturally. Rian is Dylan’s person. And Dylan is Rian’s biggest supporter. Once they allow themselves to cross the line, it opens their eyes to endless possibilities.
I’m a big fan of this group of friends. They are hilarious and supportive, and they tell it like it is. TRR introduces us to some new characters, and we can already see the setup of stories to come! Hello, Jax and (spoilers)!
So, for the reader looking for more Dylan and Rian, I highly recommend downloading the bonus content for this story!
I’m sorry I reading this story at chapter 3 because it didn’t grab my interest.
Another good one from Piper Rayne
Read: 3/14/21
The Rival Roomies was the third book in the Rooftop Crew series by the authors Piper Rayne.
Dylan and Rian were friends; however, Rian crushed on Dylan from day one. Dylan owned a tattoo shop and avoided commitments beyond friendship. Rian was a mathematician and had no idea her beauty. The previous book in the series left off with Rian’s roommate moving out but subletting to a friend of a friend, a gorgeous hot male friend that just so happened to be the archenemy of Dylan. So what did Dylan do, he moved in too with the guise of protecting Rian.
The authors took us through a complex yet humorous storyline. The focus of the plot was Rian, Dylan and Jax (the hot new roommate) – but not the triangle you would expect. The authors also included other secondary plot lines as well which highlighted family drama, acceptance, healing and new beginnings.
All in all, it was entertaining and fun. And yes, we need Jax’s story now, but in the meantime, Seth is up next in Our Star-Crossed Kiss.
Since I first meet Dylan I was wanting his story!! What can I say do? I’m a sucker fir a tattooed bad boy that’s a sweetheart. And I knew once he loved he would love with all that he had. He just had to be pushed a little bit, thinking he wasn’t good enough for Rian. And Rian just needs to let herself stand up to others. I think they are a perfect fit. And I enjoyed the entire book but now I have another bad boy I need a story to….lol!! I swear Piper and Rayne could continue to write about the same characters over and over and I would never tire over them. In fact I would love it!!! To get like monthly updates on how all my couples are doing….lol If you haven’t read Piper Rayne get on it now!!!

I have been waiting for this book since I met Rian and Dylan in book 1 of this series. I knew it would be sexually tense, boil over, and just rock both characters to the core. I was not disappointed. We have watched them in the background of books 1 and 2 of The Rooftop Crew. We knew their repressed feelings would combust. We were given exactly what we needed in the eventual union of my favorite Rooftop Crew couple.
Everything about The Rival Roomies worked for me. The characters are awesome and include everyone from the previous books. While this is considered a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the series in order so you have context. The character development is great and the authors introduce a new person, Jax. Jax is a rival of Dylan’s from back in the day. When Jax begins to show interest in Rian, Dylan just goes berserk, going as far as moving in with Rian and Jax, after Jax takes one of the spare room in Rian’s apartment. The level of emotions in this book run high, are expertly written, and make the reader feel exactly what the characters are feeling.
The entire series is awesome and highly recommended. The Rival Roomies is exceptional and my absolute favorite of the three books. I’m glad I will be able to read the story again anytime I want.
I look forward to the next book.
“The hug is not a boyfriend hug; it’s a goodbye hug.”
Finally, the most awaited book in the series for me, has its turn. In this third volume, Dylan and Rian will tell us about their adventures in search of the happy ending. Resuming where the previous one left off, with Jax moving to Rian’s apartment, Dylan also decides to move. And with these three under the same roof, living together will not be easy.
Rian is the most reserved and shy of the friends. This extremely intelligent mathematician has a passion for bakery. And a not-so-secret crush on Dylan.
Dylan is the tattooed bad boy that we love to hate. Owner of a tattoo parlor, his troubled past keeps him from getting involved and opening up to people. Not thinking he is good enough for Rian, he keeps her away, just being friends. The typical tormented guy.
But the addition of Jax will move the plot and make these characters discover hidden factors about themselves.
Jax is part of Dylan’s past and currently they don’t get along. The battle for Rian’s heart will only accentuate this rivalry. But sometimes appearances can be deceiving.
When Dylan needs help, Rian goes to the rescue and with the proximity, maybe she finally has a chance with him. That is, if he allows someone to really know him.
Dylan mentions in the beginning that his book is the best. I’m glad he doesn’t let me down. I loved the story, the characters, the narrative. Rian may be shy, but she is strong and determined. Dylan is the typical bad boy, but he has a broken, lonely side, marked by the past. Even Jax, who at the beginning presents himself as an antagonist, shows that not everything is what it seems.
The best book so far without a doubt.
This book is funny, and sweet and all the things a good romance book should be. I really enjoyed it!
4 – 4.5 Stars!
After having read A Royal Mistake I couldn’t wait for the next The Rooftop Crew book! I was so happy to jump back into this world! I got into it so quickly and I didn’t want to turn away from my kindle. I had to read it all in one sitting. This was such an enjoyable read for me!
From their friendship to their chemistry, and everything in between, Rian and Dylan’s journey was fantastic! Whether I got frustrated or wanted to hug them through my kindle, I couldn’t get enough of how they brought out my emotions!
Oh, how I loved what the other characters and their friendships brought to the story, especially Seth, Jax, and Knox! I fell for the Rooftop Crew even more this time around.
With The Rival Roomies, the Piper Rayne duo have created an addictive filled with heart, humor, and heat! This read really put a smile on my face and it’s definitely what I needed in my life!
I am so stinking excited for the next installment in The Rooftop Crew series, Seth’s book Our Star-Crossed Kissed!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the authors*
Rian gets a phone call from her parents about a math equation competition where the prize is twenty five thousand dollars. Rian hears a fight between Dylan and their roommate, Jax discussing if Dylan has any feelings for her. Rian gets ready to go to work as Dylan heads to the gym with Ethan and Seth. Dylan and Jax are both tattoo artists. Rian bakes a lemon cake to forget about her obsession with Dylan.
I absolutely loved this book. I’m so happy Rian & Dylan are getting their happily ever aftern
Rian and Dylan were a riot of fun! This book is a quick, fun read that’s perfect for someone who likes
. Friends to Lovers
.Roommates
.Awesome friend group
.Opposites attract – elementary school math textbook writer and tattoo entrepreneur
Dylan and Rian have been friends for years, awkwardly ignoring the pull they have to not rock the boat in their friend group. But Jax, a new roommate from Dylan’s past, has Dylan flooring the gas pedal once he realizes he can’t pass up the chance to be with her.
Dylan was so sweet – a former foster kid riddled with feelings of inadequacy who wants nothing more than to have a family of his own to love. A Rian is basically made of kindness and rainbows, often to her detriment. While Dylan learns to believe in his own worth, she learns to stand up for herself and live her life on her own terms.
I will say as much as I like Dylan, I fell pretty hard for Jax. Can’t wait for his story!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher and chose to review voluntarily –
This is a friends to lover’s story you will not want to miss! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
I could not wait for Dylan and Rians story! The sexual tension between these two is off the charts! These two complete each other! These two are opposites that cannot help but attract. Oh and the new guy in town Jax I cannot wait for his story! Piper Rayne do not disappoint!
I really enjoyed reading this friends to lovers romance. The relationship and banter between all the characters, not just Dylan and Rian, kept me entertained from the very beginning until the end. Dylan and Rian’s chemistry was sizzling. This book was so much more than I thought it would be, not only was it funny and hot, but it was incredibly sweet and touching how much this group of friends mean to each other. This was book 3 in The Rooftop Crew series but can be read as a standalone and still really enjoy the story, I haven’t read the previous 2 but the are now on my TBR.
Yeah! We’ve finally made it to the secret roommate crush book in this series and I could not have been happier with the outcome!
Rian has a not so secret crush on Dylan. She may be a brilliant mathematician but her heart just isn’t in it no matter how much her super demanding parents want it to be. She feels like she is never good enough. But she has found her happy place in Clifton Heights with baking and her friends and she doesn’t want to upset that by admitting she has a crush on her roommate.
Dylan also has a crush on Rian, although he’ll never let her know that because everyone he has ever loved left him. Having been an abandoned child, now that he’s found his “friend family” he’s terrified that taking a chance with Rian could break up the new sense of family he has made for himself. And, while he’s a tattoo artist, he’s also got a hidden sensitive side that can make a girl seriously swoon!
Just as Rian and Dylan both continue along in denial, Jax appears. Dylan’s former foster brother and best friend is about to do his best to shake up everyone’s life. He’s got a whole lot of baggage and some hard feelings and is ready to stir up some trouble forcing Dylan to admit to things he just isn’t ready to. But, can these roommates be more than friends or will a misstep have them both losing their happy place and family of friends in Clifton Heights they have both come to depend on so much?
I absolutely adored this opposites attract couple! I mean, a tattoo artist and bad boy and a nerdy mathematician who bakes . . . what’s not to love? This was a slow burn that went white hot once they were willing to take a chance on one another. I mean, the shaving scene? Sigh!!!!! But, don’t you worry, there is plenty of drama too! Watching them both fight to give the other the support and love they needed was amazing! And Jax, I ended up loving him too and can’t wait for his story to be told! 5 Stars!
I have been waiting for Rian and Dylan’s story since My Bestie’s Ex. These two had a chemistry that everyone saw, but they never did anything about it. Now that they are sharing an apartment and walking around on eggshells, how and will Rian and
Dylan going to keep the sexual tension under control.
Dylan is the perfect book boyfriend and Rian knows the way to his heart is through her baked goods.
This writing duo always seems to find a way to keep us reader guessing on who the next couple is going to be and how their story is going to play out. So many hints have been teased and I think I know who is next.
My ladies did it again!
I was super excited for Rian and Dylan’s book! The little bits and pieces of them we have gotten from books 1&2, I was just dying to know if Dylan felt the same as Rian. I NEEDED to know the story behind them as friends. I just needed this story lol.
I was glad it wasn’t the first in the series but I am also happy I didn’t have to wait to the end lol.
Rian was one of the girls I was so drawn to since the beginning. There was just always something about her that I knew she was hiding behind. And I mean come on we all wanted to know more about her obsession with Dylan hehe.
Speaking of Dylan, there was also something about him that made me feel like he was hiding behind the whole bad boy thing. Yes he is a bad boy but I never believed he was as bad as he was acting. Because when you get him and Rian in a room together you can just see or read the sweet chemistry they have.
Does Dylan feel the same way? Do they ruin their friendship? Or do they finally get their HEA?
You don’t wanna miss out on this book!

recommendation
The Rival Roomies is the perfect roommate/rival romance! If you love to watch two stubborn characters who have obvious feelings for each other, live in denial until someone else enters the equation, then this is the book for you. I loved Dylan and Rian’s story! While it had a few serious moments, there are definitely plenty of steamy scenes and hilarious banter to keep you smiling. As usual, I enjoy seeing the other characters come into play from the previous books and I can’t wait for more in this series. Piper Rayne is a writing duo I can always pre-order and know I’ll devour every word!
