The Rival of Species (Howl for the Damned: Book Three) by D. Fischer is an amazing story that I have loved reading. This is book number three in this amazing series and I can not wait to see what this author will write next. I highly recommend this amazing book to all.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
This dramatic ending to a unique series is a must read! This is such a well written series it is hard to believe it was conceived and written in such a short time. Your time will be well spent reading the series!
Having been betrayed by her aunt, Jinx withdraws from everyone. She dives instead into the forest and exploring her new abilities. Walking in an animals’ skin is no longer her problem. Instead she might just slip away into one of the creatures she becomes and not come back.
Jacob is determined to see that doesn’t happen. Coaxing her from her depression, they reach out to the witches of Jinx’s coven for information. Can the witches provide what they will need to finally defeat the Bane?
In this final book of the series, Jinx uncovers who the traitor is and needs to figure out what to do to correct the problems caused by her mistaken trust and save the pack she is discovering has become more than family. There are still questions to be answered, a past she doesn’t understand, and a future that is uncertain. And how she will accomplish all of this without Jacob finding out is a feat of magic of its own.
What a sensational final book in this series! Jinx captured my heart from the first book, and her story had me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what she would have to endure next. The way the author intertwined some Native American heritage within the wolf shifter story was not only special but reverential, and it made me want to learn more. It was nothing short of spectacular.
Jinx and Sara are heading back to the home that never really felt like home in this fast paced trilogy climax, but this time they have their protectors, Jacob and Cinder, close by their sides. Book 2 explored the shifter side of the issues, this book delves deeper into the witches’ society. And the more they learn, the more doesn’t quite add up. Both Jinx and Sara face difficult decisions as they learn more about themselves, their powers, the Bane pack, the the curse that draws them all together. The ending was not what I expected – but very satisfying.
This is the third book in the Howl for the Damned Trilogy and these books definitely need to be read in order as they slowly unravel a story that builds form book to book.
This is the third book in the series and wow it kicks butt.
So much action,Jinx discovers who the traitor is but where they threatened to do this or was it spite?
Jinx goes back to her home where the Witches are and Takes Jake with her.
To find answers about the things that are happening.
Things are hostile at the Coven will they manage to endure without things exploding into more trouble.
Will the issues with the Bane Pack get resolved.
This is so exciting everything finally comes to a head .
Will this mean happily ever after ,will they all survive, you will have to read on to find out.
Such a shame this is the last book i enjoyed it so much i am sure you will too so fantastic ,unreal yet i know it happened i was there.
I loved this series and the finale was the best!!! Awesome characters, creative writing and overall just a great book! I highly recommend it!
A nail-biting and breathtaking finale to such a wonderful series! I really loved how everything and everyone came together and how the future will pan out. I will miss Jinx though, she is such a wonderful character. I really liked Marian! She was such a hoot! I am looking forward to whatever D Fischer writes next!
D. Fischer’s has once again written a superb book! Kaya’s betrayal pushes Jinxs into searching for answers in the most unexpected places, her coven. While some welcome Jinks and her pack, others are vocal about their dislike. A lot of things come out, a plan is hatched, there is more betrayal and can we say ACTION! So many unexpected twists and turns on this journey. And the ending……….
This is the third book in the Howl for the Damned series and it is one encompassing read. It is not a standalone and picks up where the second book left off. It continues Jinx’s journey and learning who she truly is. Jinx finds out that she is a skinwalker and can transform herself into any animal she chooses. Jacob’s pack has accepted Jinx and the two want to carry out the mate bond. However, since the betrayal, Jinx is spending more time alone berating herself. There is still the issue of the Bane Pack, which Jinx and Jacob are trying to gather as much information as possible to deal with the escalation of violence and the curse. Will Jinx finally be able to get to the truth about the curse? Overall, this is one dynamic storyline filled with intrigue, drama, secrets and romance that is not to be missed. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.
I read this book in a day. It had me from the start. This book brings everything full circle and has a few awesome love stories too. It was a great, fun and easy read that any fantasy lover will enjoy.
A highly satisfactory end to a wonderful series.
„The Rival of Species”, the third and final installment in the “Howl for the Damned” Series by D. Fischer, continues to tell the story of Jinx and Jacob after the traitor who betrayed Jinx trust was finally found out. In the search of further information on the curse that hangs over the Bane Pack, Jinx and Jacob go back the Lotus Coven. Bringing Jacob to a house full of witches does not seen like a good move, even for a much more secure Jinx, but with the Bane Pack growing more desperate and violent by the day, to find all pertinent to break the original curse has become paramount.
While in the Coven, the power balance shifts in favour of the witches, but we also learn that Jinx is able to skin walk into any animal of her choosing and she would eventually be able to uncover the truth about the curse. Will she finally find her HEA… sorry you would need to find by yourself… not spoilers here, it will be a real disservice to such a wonderful story.
D. Fischer has done it again , blending fast-paced action, romantic elements, intense characters and unexpected twists into a very good story to create a fantastic series that honestly has it all: wonderful, fully fleshed and multidimensional characters at the heart of fast-packed action that keeps the reader heart pounding on the edge of the seat invested to find out what comes next; a mix of drama, suspense, thrill, secrets, romance and adventure; exceptional good writing that goes above and beyond great story-telling and into the realms of high-quality literature.
This is the 3rd book in the series and I believe it might be the final. It’s a great book. We see the final character development in this series as each of the main characters finally come into their own, finally act as themselves and more importantly accept themselves. This one is a bit of an emotional roller coaster, there are all the ups and downs you could need. We get to an understanding of past secrets, learn knew ones and see how the cast can come together to support each other and themselves. Super enjoyable to read, fun world, awesome characters and just enough twists to keep you guessing. Love it!
This is an epic read right from the start to the finish. A fast paced and action packed read. I love Shifter reads. And this Author has done a fantastic job at bringing this book to fruition. The scenes are written so well that I could picture them in my mind’s eye. And the Characters seem so real I definitely recommend.

In this book we discover that when skinwalking Jinx can walk in any animal’s skin she chooses. Since the betrayal of a member of her new found family, her only link to her father naturally Jinx has been withdrawn into herself, going off alone on the Riva Pack land to roam in different animal skins. Slowly learning to shift more quickly and kind of discovering her new self.
After their previous misunderstanding and a few awkward moments Jinx and Jacob both want to take their relationship to the next level and carry out the mate bond. Jacob is reluctant as he doesn’t want Jinx to become his mate and then regret it. Jacob seems to think once the danger with the Bane Pack is over Jinx may feel differently about staying with him forever. Jacob knows Jinx is the one for him and that he wants to be with her forever, he is just wary because Jinx is not a wolf shifter and once a wolf mates it is forever and there is no turning back.
Jacob and the Riva Pack have all accepted and accustomed to the presence of Jinx and witch Sara within their home even though there is a general distrust and dislike between witches and shifters. So, it is quite a surprise when a visit to the Lotus Coven is planned, though there is a highly amusing scene within the book where Jacob tells Cinder he is going to be visiting the Lotus Coven with him, Jinx and Sara. Jinx needs some answers from her mother about her father and the Whitethorn family. There are some fantastic scenes where the big bad wolves are reduced to scared little boys whilst at the coven. At first there is a suspicion of each other but when Marian sees how much Jacob and Cinder love and care for Jinx and Sara, Marian sort of takes them under her wing. As Jinx had to put up with some initial distrust from the Riva Pack, both Jacob and Cinderson are ignored, and treat quite poorly at the coven and some of its members.
Once again, I had lots of questions, theories and thoughts of my own during the book, such as could Jinx somehow speak/contact her father Adriel for any help with the situation she finds herself in the middle of? Is the cat that is roaming the Lotus Coven really a cat or some sort of “device” or “being” that is there to report about what is going on in the Coven to someone else?
I have really grown to love these characters and really want to read more about them so I am hoping there is going to be a spin off series with them in. With all the different supernatural beings the possibilities are endless. I truly love the style of D. Fischer’s writing and story- telling, she makes it so easy to read and get lost in her books. Her characters are realistic and are a great mix of instantly likable, lovable as well as those you grow to love and of course the ones you adore disliking too! As well as the main characters of Jinx, Sara, Jacob & Cinder we meet more witches. I immediately loved Marian the High Priestess, yet at the same time felt drawn to the more cantankerous character of Greta. Greta reminded me a little of Glenda the Riva Pack cook. I enjoyed the introduction of Ravyn, the pack yet to receive a name, and of course revisiting with the Cloven Pack. I loved how the different supernatural beings all came together in the end to fight a common threat.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing this book were that I absolutely
Loved the book from beginning to end. Sad that it’s the last book in the Howl For The Damned Series but hoping for more from the supernatural beings in this series perhaps in a spin off or three!! A fantastic “shifter series” that has “shifters” & more……much more.
To sum up once again I felt immediately hooked and was pulled right back into the story full of mystery & intrigue. I was determined to attempt to read it slowly and savour the book but still read it in just two “reading sessions”. The whole series makes for addictive reading, seriously you do not want to put this book down for anything!! I could go on and on about this book, this series, and look forward to reading other reviews and opinions on it and maybe even talking “spoilers”. It has been hard to talk about this book whilst at the same time refrain from including any spoilers. This book and series reminded me of my first love of the “shifter” genre and the enjoyment I got from Rachel Vincent’s Shifter Series and Kelley Armstrong’s Women Of The Otherworld Series. I have seen this series also compared to Patricia Briggs books (I have only read one so far) so I intend to read some of her books too! If you love these books and want recommendations they also remind me of Amanda Carlson’s Jessica McClain books and Karina Espinosa’s brilliant Mackenzie Grey Series too.
HANGING ON BY A THREAD!!!
