The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.” After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those … cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness–if, indeed, they can be saved.
Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal–and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny–to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all–she will need an army behind her…

Great read
Usually love Nora Robert books but couldn’t get in to this one. I didn’t really enjoy this trilogy.
Sold ending to a fun trilogy.
l loved the entire series – totally worth reading – beautifully written
Loved the series
Final book in a trilogy that was wonderful. Nora didn’t disappoint!
Nora Robert’s never disappoints! Love this Trioligy.
Wow! Nora Roberts hit it out of the park with this series. From ‘The One’ to ‘Of Blood And Bone’ finishing with ‘The Ride Of Magicks’ , character development was A-One.
The Rise of Magick was a chance to connect with old friends, in a way. The book had a good vibe throughout as the battle for light and dark continued. Unlike most books, main characters are killed, but it does not take away from the story. It makes you root even more for the light.
The characters, action (which there was plenty), and storyline combine to create an emotional attachment between the characters and the reader. You feel and share in their happiness and pain. I am sad to see the series end.
I recommend this book. Even though Nora Roberts is known for the Romance Genre, she is a wonderful story teller. I have never lost interest in reading any of her books. If you have never read one of her Fancy books, you need to give them a try.
The three books of this series is a master class in building a riveting story.
This was such a great series. The Rise of Magicks was the perfect ending to this series. As a reader you get so much closer by the end with how things play out. I found this book fast paced and hard to put down. I think Nora Roberts does an outstanding job creating characters with so much dept and easy to connect with. The world building is wonderfully done and the storyline is easy to follow. I really enjoyed this series and wish it didn’t end. However, I think it ended perfectly and left me feeling happy and content.
I absolutely loved the conclusion to the series. I read the full series in audio and am so glad I did. Great cast of characters!
“The end. The beginning. And all the years after.”
This was such a beautiful story, woven through with love and magic, hardships and loss, but most of all love. I followed Fallon from the minute she wad conceived, when the darkness rose over the world and changes it forever. I watched her grow and become a warrior, a woman and a leader. She had great losses and roaring successes. She loved and she lost. A circle of family and friends bound together from the very beginning surrounded her, supported her, believed in her and loved her. It was wobderous and beautiful, magical and dark, simply put it was everything! Unforgettable and never to be forgotten, always cherished and I thank the author for her talent and way with words that moved me to tears and brought me joy and life. A magical trilogy has come to an end and it deserves every star I can give it!
Love all of Nora Roberts books. This one definitely falls in to the fantasy realm.
Story 4.5 stars rounded up. Narration 5 stars. Between Nora Robert’s excellent prose and Julia Whelan’s nuanced performance, I had a hard time stopping listening. But life gets in the way at times.
This was an excellent all around listen. You must keep in mind that this is the last in a 3 part series. You would be lost if you tried this one before before reading the first two. Not to worry though, you’ll eventually get to this one because I guarantee you will want to keep reading all of them once started.
I’m going to miss this dystopian story and all the strange but, wonderful characters. Not only is it dystopian, it’s also a romance and a story about a woman who is considered to be The One”. There’s more than a little magic involved, lots of supernatural creatures and lots of action and scenes of the war between Light and Dark.
I highly recommend this listen( or read) to adult readers of paranormal romance, fantasy and even to urban fantasy fans.
A wonderful end to a fantastic trilogy.
The conclusion to this trilogy was everything I wanted it to be and more. A truly beautiful ending. I want to be very mindful of spoilers so as not to ruin the magic (see what I did there?) for other readers.
The evolution of Fallon’s relationship with Duncan was exactly right; I love him for her. In fact, I loved all of the relationships in this story.
When they travel to New York, back to where it all began, I could still picture everything the way it was described in the first book, overlaying the current state of things in my mind. This is great storytelling, in my opinion. I could see Arlys at the news desk next to the corpse of her co-worker. I could see Fred and Arlys traversing the tunnels. I could see a frightened Lana discovering her powers.
There are deaths, of course, because, you know, war. One absolutely heartbreaking death in particular – and the characters’ reactions to it – literally brought tears to my eyes.
The emotions throughout this story are so powerful. You can feel their triumph, their heartbreak, their joy, their rage.
And, while this is classified as fantasy, the entire story certainly feels like a commentary on modern society, no?
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press for the ARE!
What a stunning conclusion to this series. When the book became available I re-read Books 1 and 2. Fabulous world building. And always in the background that through struggles, good will overcome evil or light will triumph over darkness. And I have to admit — I cried when Joe died. Fabulous!
Nora Roberts returns with the third book in the series Chronicles of The One! A sickness known as the Doom tore across the globe crumbling civilization leaving people with no choice but to turn back to the land to survive. But in this desolate, radically altered world, magick has become commonplace. Both good and dark!
Enter Fallon Swift who we learned in the previous stories has been born into a role as The One. She trains in fighting, learning to use the magick and powers of light to rescue shifters, elves and ordinary humans that have been enslaved by the Purity Warriors and those that believe in the Dark. She faces an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold and pursues her destiny to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all.
Most know Nora Roberts work and with this series we get a glimpse of her dipping into the fantasy/sci-fi genre. I was intrigued when the first book came out and enjoyed all three in this trilogy.
I’ve always enjoyed Nora Roberts books. In fact I loved book 1 of this series but I couldn’t wait to finish this book. Character development lacking, story line lacking
Great read
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
This was a great book !
This is last book for the trilogy.
The author wraps up the trilogy beautifully.
You can’t never go wrong with a Nora Robers book.
Loved the characters + the storytelling !
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
