The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.” After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those … cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness–if, indeed, they can be saved.
Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal–and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny–to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all–she will need an army behind her…

Absolutely loved this paranormal/urban fantasy/post-apocalypse series by Nora Roberts. She always creates fantastic characters you love to get to know, and this series was no different. She builds an amazing world where you feel like you’ve truly survived an apocalyptic level plague and are thrust into a world of good battling evil, light versus dark, hate versus love. Highly recommend if you enjoy any of the genres I mentioned that this book encompasses!
The Rise of Magicks is the third and final book in”The Chronicles of the One” post-apocalyptic paranormal trilogy by Nora Roberts. The trilogy is a testament to Nora’s story-telling abilities, although those of her fans looking for her contemporary romances or romantic suspense novels might not enjoy this series. I like paranormal/fantasy novels, and while this series isn’t all “starlight and moonbeams,” the plot is amazing and the series is a real page-turner.
I feel that this book had everything in it. Nora knows how to build off her characters to make them real. She brought everyone together to fight for the samething we all want, which is to live together in peace and not judge one another for our race, religion and (I forgot) I really enjoyed this book even though this wasn’t her normal genre I hope she will write more like this.
The final book of Nora Roberts trilogy about a post apocalyptic world is full of magic, mythology, battles and love. Ms. Roberts never fails to deliver an entertaining story. Though this trilogy did not follow her usual plot line of six people coming together to couple up and fight the big evil it still wove a plot that had interesting and vibrant characters.
By the goddess, this book gave me all the feels and even more tears!! Through the entirety of this book, I feared for everyone’s life at one point or another and when they did lose someone it hit hard. With duets, trilogies or series it hits harder for me because at this point, I am attached to the characters. Nora Roberts has been a go to author for me since I first read Vision in White years ago but Chronicles of the One series really elevated her as an author. Between the world building and character development it’s no wonder.
Nearly twenty years after The Doom hit the world is finally starting to rebuild. Fallon Swift has known what her destiny is since she was a child but now the end is coming, and she must first take over what the darkness has inhabited. Between the Dark Uncanny and the Purity Warriors this is not going to be an easy task but with the people of New Hope by her side she knows that this is the next step to finally defeating the darkness for good. First, they must take D.C. and then New York but after the war and the bloodshed it will be time for the three to fight and take back what belongs to the world. The light.
The Rise of Magicks is everything you have been waiting for since Year One . We see Fallon become The One, Duncan become her lifeline and Simon be there for her in only a way that a dad can be but on top of all that we see the people of New Hope form an alliance behind Fallon. While there has been battles before this was war and when all is said and done who will be left standing?
This trilogy will go down as one of the best trilogies I have ever read!! There were so many characters that I fell in love with along the way, characters I loved that died, or got their hearts broken but in the end in true Nora Roberts fashion she gave us the ending that we all needed. The Rise of Magicks was another five-star read by Nora Roberts and while I am sad that it is over, I am truly happy with the ending.
Just as the world today is overcoming the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, the good at heart both magical and non-magic overcome the evil unleashed by Robert’s Doom pandemic. Hope overcomes despair. Light wins over darkness. Fantastically written as only Roberts can do, this book reflects the same hope, relief and success our own world is feeling today.
The was such a great ending to the series. Nora Roberts knows how to write a book that keeps you engulfed in the pages.
Fallon Swift is back continuing her role as “The One” as she battles back the Dark so humanity can prevail and live in the Light again.
There is so much she has to do, but she is never alone. There are so many wonderful characters in this book that all come to aid Fallon while she is on her quest. The battle scenes are so well written that you can vividly see them play in your head while reading. You see Fallon as she goes through stages of falling in love, enduring loss and heart ache, and becoming the warrior she was born to be.
This was one of my favorite series of Nora’s, but I know she has more great books to come.
In the Rise of Magicks the forces of Light continue the battle to defeat the Dark Uncanny, the Pure Warriors and the Raiders and to free those held captive. There is the final battle of the the One and two others. Fallon Swift and her armies recaptures Washington, DC, New York, Philadelphia and other major cities across the United States. The warriors come from all over the country, both uncanny and human, to win back freedom and peace. This book was a fitting end to the trilogy and I would recommend all three titles.
Book three in this magical series was another unputdownable story, an epic conclusion to the war between good and evil, dark and light. If I have to cavil at one thing it would be an underdevelopment of the evil cousin, more of her darkness to contrast with Fallon’s staggering power of light would have made an even more compelling part of the story. That said, it’s hard in epic battle stories to create scenes that don’t weary. It takes skill to write just enough and not too much about battles and Nora Roberts succeeds admirably.
I loved this conclusion to the trilogy, so much so, that reading the final page was hard – I did not want this to finish, half hoping the author would write more, but knowing nothing more is actually needed. Terrific read, amazing characters, unique story. Loved it.
Excellent read. Roberts always writes a good book. Loved these characters and the plot. My only complaint is that this was so long and drawn out. Still good. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Listened to this in audio and absolutely loved this series! Enthralling, emotional, witty. The narrator did a fabulous job bringing all the characters to life. Subtle yet powerful romantic element throughout. Nora at her best!
In this book, Nora Roberts expertly creates a magical world, as only she can do, with wonderful characters and enchanting notions. In the first book, we saw the world succumb to a deadly plague that killed eighty percent of the population and caused magick to manifest in some of those left alive. Some turned to the light, but others were taken over by dark forces. In the second book, we followed Fallon Swift—who is The One—as she trained and learned from Mallick, an old sorcerer, so that she could bring the world back from the brink of destruction. I loved this third and final book where Fallon, her family, and her close circle of friends sacrifice everything to defeat raiders, the DU—Dark Uncanny, and the PW—Purity Warriors to bring The Light back to the people. Fallon not only inspires faith and trust to bloom again, but she also finds love for herself with Duncan, and together they defeat Petra and her evil dragon. A fun and entertaining story.
I loved all of these books!
I read books for entertainment. Nora Roberts is easy to read, she is descriptive without being wordy, she keeps the story moving, without confusing me, and uses dialogue when appropriate. This was the first of a trilogy, the second and third were less entertaining.
Epic conclusion to an unbelievable fantasy tale of doom. It was interesting learning about these characters following there lives and how they coped with the perils they faced in the new world they where building, the compassion, acceptance for new comers, and the retribution for the ones that where trying to harm others not like them. I admired Fallon’s strength of character along with her family and all that followed The One. It would be interesting if Nora did a novella in a few years just to see how they are coping, how they have grown, built a new society, and if they are at peace.
I also have to mention that Julia Whalen did a wonderful job narrating this exciting adventure.
“Rise of the Magics” is the third installment to the Nora Roberts trilogy series that included Book 1″ One Year”,Book 2 “Blood and Bone”. I have read all three and loved each book immensely. The triology is about good vs evil, and a war of magical people, who have been considered dangerous, and sub-humen to the rest of the world, and are forced to hide there magics. It’s a fantasy based in world of the near future. In the first book “Year One” at some point evil with all its demons, and unthinkable horrors rise all over the world, and begins to attack everyone, human or magical killing them, or taking them prisoners. During this time those who
are good start to band together, and find a safe place to hide. Also at this time a baby is conceived in love between two very magical, and good people. This baby grows up to become the savior or keeper of the light.
The second book “Blood and Bone” tells the story of the saviors training and learning how to control her magic of good light. Meanwhile those who have managed to escape the demons have found sanctuary in a New place they call New Hope. There they build up their military ranks, because they know at some point their savior will come, and together they will defeat the dark ones. In the third and final book ” Rise of the Magics ” the savior arrives, and the war between light and dark. Battles are fought an enemy bases are taken.
These books are not just about wars and battles there is a lot human nature, magical creatures, strong friendships and tight family bonds. You see this type of behavior throughout all three books, but mostly in the last book. I loved all these books just for that reason. It showed me how people, people of different races can form a bond so strong between each other in times of need. It shows how this group of strangers built a whole town together as one entity without hatred for each other, sharing in all the responsibilities of living as one group. No separate ruling government, and made it work.
I would recommend this trilogy to everyone. Even if your not a big fantasy reader. It’s exciting, it’s filled with magic, and it’s filled with so much love. However, I would recommend reading the first two books before you read ” Rise of the Magics.”
As for the actual book “Rise of the Magics” it was entertaining , exciting ,and for me pulled all three books together and created a wholeness and happy satisfaction for a great ending. I can’t choose which book out of the three was the best, and that’s because all three books in my opinion deserve .
Loved this series
Fabulous read. Absolutely excellent end to the trilogy. This might be my favorite trilogy ever!
In Rise of the Magicks, Fallon comes of age and Mallick fulfills his purpose and good must always prevail although the cost will be high as friends and companions are lost. The connection between Duncan and Fallon is deftly done, enough to be intriguing but not enough to be intrusive. The beauty of Chronicles of The One, Books One, Two, and Three, is that, magical or not, the humanity of the characters shines through unfailingly. In each book, Ms. Roberts, as always, writes with strength and clarity. And a bit of magic. For those things, the magic no less than the strength and clarity, Ms. Roberts earns another five stars.
