After witnessing his younger brother’s death in a tragic accident, Jonathan Nelson desperately tries losing himself on the gridiron. No matter how hard he tries keeping his head above water, he’s drowning in a sea of grief. Compounding his inability to get his head on straight is Presley—the girl who had a complicated relationship with his brother, Jake, and who is pregnant with his child. At … first, Jonathan only harbors resentment and animosity to Presley when she moves in with his parents. But the more the two are thrown together, the more his feelings for her begin to change, and the more confusing Jake’s loss becomes.
Presley Patterson never imagined finding out she was pregnant just a month before graduating high school. She also never fathomed losing the baby’s father to a tragic accident. Needing support for her and her unborn child, she seeks solace by moving in with Jake’s parents. She isn’t too surprised to find an adversary in Jonathan, but she isn’t about to let him ruin the first stability she’s ever experienced. Surprisingly, the animosity towards Jonathan begins to fade and is replaced by more amorous feelings. Taking a chance on Jonathan means risking the perfect world she’s built for herself and her daughter.
Can the two move on from the specter of Jake in order to find a future together, or will their wounded hearts remain unhealed?

Because I enjoyed The Hard Way and Don’t Hate the Player, Hate the Game I was excited for The Right Way.
The Right Way is an enjoyable read that sucks you in. Presley and Jonathan’s journey to each other was loving and tender.
My only wish is that the time line between the three books had stayed consistent.

4.5 Emotional, Sweet & Sexy Stars!
I absolutely loved this poignant story of healing, hope, and love. We all make mistakes when we are young, and some mistakes are harder to overcome than others. That is what happened with Presley and Jonathon. Presley is pregnant with Jonathon’s deceased brother’s baby. Presley had dated Jake on and off through high school. She didn’t have a great home life and searched for love with many of the boys at school. She had watched Jake begin to turn his life around, being much happier with his better choices, until his tragic accident that took his young life. Now she is determined to make a good life for their baby and be a woman that she and her baby will be proud of. Jake’s parents want to help and invite her to live with them. But Jonathon has his own demons after witnessing his younger brother’s accident. He is broken and angry and isn’t willing to trust someone like Presley. They get off on the wrong foot, before Jonathon learns some truths, and wants to make amends. It isn’t easy for Presley and Jonathon to overcome their painful pasts, but there is something about the purity and innocence of a new life that brings about second chances. There are many sweet and funny moments, and I loved the evolution of Jonathon and Presley’s relationship. I also loved catching up with friends from past books. This is a deeply moving, and heartwarming story about healing, family, and second chances at love that captured my heart from beginning to end!
Katie Ashley has done an amazing job with this emotional story of healing, pain and love. She has delivered such emotion in this one. You may need tissues.
Presley never expected to become a teenage mum but she embraces this and turns her life around. When the babies father, Jake, is killed in a tragic accident she never expected to find her support system in Jake’s family.
Jonathan witnessed his brothers death and is suffering with PTSD and flashbacks and is unable to cope with it on his own. As he begins to deal with his brothers death he finds himself drawn to Presley and especially baby Evie when shes born.
I loved how this romance developed, there was no insta-love, it was at a natural pace and so beautiful to watch develop. They don’t want to risk their relationship by going too fast.
Well done Katie for this beautiful read.
I like the slow burn from virtual enemies, to friends, to lovers. The growth of both characters shines through the pages. This was a deeply emotional story. I found myself in tears more than once. The guilt Jonathan had over his brothers death almost lead him to the point of self destruction. If it weren’t for his love of football he would have never gotten the help he needed to deal with life. Also being in the delivery room, although he resisted had a major impact on him. As much as he tried, he couldn’t get Presley out of his mind. When they say some people are dealt a tough hand they could be talking about her. She didn’t have a good mother but she was determined to be one for her little girl. Once deemed the good time girl, as soon as she was pregnant she made up her mind to change. She had an amazing transformation. “We aren’t our pasts”
It’s been years since I read Don’t Hate the Player, so I didn’t recall all of the background prior to the beginning of this story. This story begins after Presley finds out she’s pregnant and Jake has died in a horrible accident, after telling Presley he will be there for the baby.
Presley is left wondering what she will do as her mother isn’t very maternal nor dependable and she doesn’t have anyone else to help. Fortunately, Jake’s parents invite her to live with them so they can help her through the pregnancy. I believe they initially offered because of the coming grandchild but living together was beneficial for everyone.
Beneficial for everyone except Jonathan, Jake’s older brother and who had seen his brother die. As you can imagine, he has experienced trauma and having a difficult time getting past the loss, which affects his football career at college.
Presley had a reputation to overcome and as the pregnancy progressed, she determined she will live her life the best she can for her child. She had plans to attend college and not to get involved with any guys as she focuses on her life and what she can build for her child.
I loved the interactions between the family and to see that Jonathan started to see Presley in a different light as they spent more and more time together. I won’t give any spoilers but when the baby arrived – what a chaotic, emotional event. It was so beautiful to see how everyone loved the baby and how she helped with the grief everyone felt at the loss of Jake.
This was a sweet and emotional story with a great ending.
The Right Way from Katie Ashley is a story of coming of age, as well as overcoming a horrific accident that has all the characters learning to overcome grief. This is Presley and Jonathan’s story, it will have you not only hooked from the beginning, but also keeps you wanting to keep reading to see how they both will come together. Keep some tissues handy this book has all the feels, can’t wait to see if we will get Jason’s book.
The Right Way had me hooked from the beginning with Presley finding out she was a pregnant teen and the tragic events that started off this book. The story of her and Jonathan kept me turning pages and I finished this read in 2 days! Definitely a book I’d recommend and I look forward to more by Katie Ashley.
Wow talk about emotional. Jonathan was learning how to grieve the loss of his younger brother Jake especially since he witnessed it. Presley was expecting Jake’s baby and for some reason Jonathan despised her. Until he realized that she wasn’t using his parents like he thought. He saw a different side of her once she moved in with his family. Presley had a bad reputation as being a wild child but once she found herself pregnant at 18 she completely changed. She grew up and made sure to do everything that will benefit her daughter and she was grateful that Jake’s family was helping her while she worked and went to school. Little by little her and Jonathan got close and in some way saved each other. And he loved his niece something fierce. As a matter of fact she called him daddy and it was the cutest thing. These two overcame so much and it was sad but yet beautiful. But what I loved the most was that nothing was rushed.
Just when you think your life is going to go one way it can unexpectedly change in an instant. Presley Patterson life is turned upside down but she’s knows she must change her ways and become a better person for not only herself but for the sake of her child. She will have the support of a very loving family The Nelson’s but the reluctant help of their older son Jonathan Nelson.
Jonathan thinks Presley is not who she seems to be but overtime and after getting to know the person she becomes he sees her in a whole different light.
You will watch Presley & Jonathan overcome grief, find a way to trust one another, and watch them find the feelings for the other that will maybe lead them to love. There story is a journey that you will want to follow to the end and know that you can always overcome anything if you have the right person by your side.
Love the name Presley first off!!
I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down from the first chapter. Katie did a wonderful job bringing Presley and Jonathan’s story to life. You could say they were enemies in a way. Jonathan surely didn’t like Presley after Jake’s accident. Presley was sure the whole Nelson family didn’t like her.
Not only does this book show how grief can bring people together and not apart, but it shows that counseling isn’t just for old people!! LOL
I was so elated to see The Nelson’s taking in Presley, that made my heart happy. Jonathan he really changed his view about his feelings for Presley when he found out about the letter.
Y’all just need to grab this book! It was great seeing Noah and Maddie again!!
I love a good book by Katie Ashley and I will read anything that she writes, I really wanted to love it, Presley and Jonathon held my interest and I did enjoy it…. but…. I didn’t love it, there was so much side story I wanted to know, I wanted to know more of Jake and that letter he wrote, I wanted to know more of Noah and Maddie… and Jake, once Presley and Jonathon finally got it together (include an adorable baby) I wanted their HEA… I’m hoping there is more to come…
I’m not changing my review but it came to my attention that Noah and Maddie did have their own story in Don’t hate the player hate the game … I wish I had known this previously… its no ones fault but my own …. this book makes more sense now…
This is a story about overcoming grief and guilt, growing up, and finding yourself. Jonathan and Presley are both impacted by a tragic accident. After their initial animosity, they are thrown together and gradually develop a friendship that helps them heal and fall in love
Throughout the story, Ashley allows the reader to connect with both characters as they struggle to deal with their changing circumstances and relationship. Their struggles are tangible, you will want to cry, laugh, and cheer them on.
I really enjoyed this book…it is well written, entertaining read. If you enjoy sweet romances this is the book for you. Advanced copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
While this is a good book, it didn’t wow me. The main characters are in late teens and early 20s. There were times that I thought some of the lines dealing with the death of one of the characters were just a little raw (I can’t think of a better word.) I liked Jonathan and Presley, but I didn’t love them. Did I like the story? Yes. Did I keep reading continuously to find out what is going to happen? Yes. It’s not an instant love type of story. The book actually takes place over a year’s time. There are flashbacks to give us some information. So, while I’m not jumping for joy or giving this book 5 stars. I will give it 4 and would certainly recommend it. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
