NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Filled with heartbreak and betrayal, triumph and fulfillment, The Right Time is an intimate, richly rewarding novel about pursuing one’s passion and succeeding beyond one’s wildest dreams. Abandoned by her mother at age seven, Alexandra Winslow takes solace in the mysteries she reads with her devoted father—and soon she is writing them herself, slowly graduating to … herself, slowly graduating to dark, complex crime stories that reflect skill, imagination, and talent far beyond her years. After her father’s untimely death, at fourteen Alex is taken in by the nuns of a local convent, where she finds twenty-six mothers to take the place of the one she lost, and the time and encouragement to pursue her gift.
Alex writes in every spare moment, gripped by the plots and themes and characters that fill her mind. Midway through college, she has finished a novel—and manages to find a seasoned agent, then a publisher. But as she climbs the ladder of publishing success, she resolutely adheres to her father’s admonition: Men read crime thrillers by men only—and so Alexandra Winslow publishes under the pseudonym Alexander Green, her true identity known only to those closest to her, creating a double life that isolates her.
Her secret life as the mysterious and brilliantly successful Alexander Green—and her own life as a talented young woman—expose her to the envious, the arrogant, and Hollywood players who have no idea who she really is. Always, the right time to open up seems just out of reach, and would cost her dearly. Once her double life and fame are established, the price of the truth is always too high.

The story of a young lady with an unhappy and tragic family life. Abandoned by her mother when 7 years old, though with a very supportive father. Unfortunately father died when 14 years old. She becomes a ward of a convent and enjoys a happy life with the sisters. She has a genius aptitude for writing gory murder mysteries and becomes a noted published author. After a few unsuccessful romantic relationships she meets her mate. They develop a loving relationship and live together but both do not favor the official tangles of marriage.
They both decide they do not want children and the author reinforces this point on a number of sentences in the story. Her husband become fatally ill with pancreatic cancer and she discovers she is pregnant with his child. It becomes uncertain if he will die before the child is born. This quite unexpected and not easily accepted complication of pregnancy is not at all a reasonable event for the author to inject in to the story line. I stopped reading at this point and will not invest more of my time reading the balance. This nonsequiter action by the author is the reason for my 2 star rating.
Loved the book!
Too long in parts. Doesn’t seem like her style
The right time by Danielle Steel
Story follows a young girl whose father is the only person in her life. He’s a mystery writer and he shares his time reading with her-mysteries.
Soon after the Nancy Drew series she starts writing her own works. After her father dies she has a few options of where to live and she ends up at the convent where she has many aunts who care about her.
Life goes on and she is given a lot of opportunities and she succeeds in everything she does. Hate hearing of how others use her sexually as she has no experience.
Love travel and locations and the work she’s able to do. Surprise ending, lots of twists and turns.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).
Poorly written. Read like written by an amateur author. Totally unrealistic. What state allows a 14 year old to make the decision to live in a convent. Absolutely not worth reading, kept thinking it would get better
.
Love reading Danielle Steele!!
I liked the fact that a young girl could write better murder mysteries than any man three times her age and did time after time.
In Danielle Steele style, it was a fun and easy book to read. Her character grew through her challenges. I liked that the locations changed throughout the book so the background was interesting. The time in the convent was particularly interesting.
It was okay but not worth the money
