It’s just another Tuesday in Rockin, Alaska: one bear cub, two Bigfoot sightings, three corrupt law officers and a sting operation that will test new police officer Gabriella Donatti to the limits. Right Motive is an all-new stand-alone novella from New York Times bestselling author Christina Dodd. Set in the same world as her novel Wrong Alibi, in small-town Rockin, Alaska, this story is packed … story is packed with her trademark mystery, unforgettable characters, plot twists and humor.

Right Motive is an introduction to Rockin, Alaska, and Police Chief Dumas and Officer Gabriella Donatti. In this novella, they try to solve the sighting of a Bigfoot who rescued a baby cub and easily transported the mama bear, his sibling and him in his truck. They also investigate a corrupt police officer. All this is a typical day for the officers in Rockin.
This is an entertaining, well-written, fast paced suspense novella. It has interesting characters, wit, humor, mystery, intrigue, big foot sightings, and a surprise ending. It is an excellent beginning to what I am certain will be another outstanding series by Ms. Dodd, who never disappoints her readers. I am looking forward to reading “Wrong Alibi”, the next entry in the Murder in Alaska series, with great anticipation.
I liked this novella. Its an introduction to a new series by the author. The Police Chief is cool and I can’t wait to see what else happens in Alaska.
I liked the story but I was a bit stunned. Didn’t expect the ending. If her next book is with these characters, it’ll be interesting and I’m all in. Looking forward to reading the next book.
I loved reading this short novella that introduces the Rockin Police Department in Alaska. Police Chief Dumas might seem out of place with his Cajun accent and understated manner, but he is quick witted and open minded and will do great at his new job. It was a fresh look at a new series and I know that I can hardly wait until the first book comes out in late December. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Outstanding!!!! I am waiting impatiently for the next book.
I loved this story! So inventive and a little quirky. The mystery was rather secondary to the story but it had a nice twist. There was a little too much exposition but, being a novella, I can forgive the lack of action to wrap up the plotlines. Right Motive is a nice setup to the upcoming book and I can’t wait to see the characters again in Wrong Alibi!
Loved it! Rockin, Alaska is a happening town. And I’m in love with that coonass transplant, Police Chief Dumas. Long may he protect and serve!
Loved this quick yet highly entertaining action packed and thrillingly dangerous journey filled with such intriguing and engaging charters. Had me on the edge of my seat and excited for more.
A good taste of small town mysteries in Rockin, Alaska. First you have a couple of Bigfoot sighting and then a new Cajun Police Chief, trying to clean up a corrupt police force. Add a new police officer, local to the area, Gabriella Donatti, who knows more than she is letting on when it comes to the Bigfoot case. When her aunt’s greenhouse is demolished, both Chief Dumas and Donatti respond. Dumas has his sting operation in the works unbeknownst to Donatti, but, with the premonition of danger, the aunt sends Donatti after him. What goes down is the part of the clean-up but with different suspects in line. A great start to Ms. Dodd’s new Murder in Alaska series. Cannot wait to see what these two police officers tackle in the small town. Thank you to Ms. Dodd and HQN Publishers for the opportunity to read and review this novella.
Right Motive (novella)
Once again Christina Dodd hits it out of the park with Right Motive, a new series that is set in Alaska. Her books are known for great stories, interesting characters, romance, emotions and a bit of paranormal.
This novella is like a “meet and greet” of new characters and settings. Rodolphe Dumas is the new police chief of Rockin, Alaska. His first priority is to clean house of corruption. Gabriella Donati is a new recruit and only female on the staff. She gets stuck investigating a Bigfoot sighting. Chief Dumas decides to ride along with her. On the way to first sighting, a second one comes in, close to their location. Bears, blood and Bigfoot – oh, my! The second location is at Gabriella’s Aunt and Uncle’s country farm. Suddenly, Chief Dumas mysteriously takes off.
This was a fast read and I was wishing for more. Right Motive is an introduction to the first book, Wrong Alibi. With details of the area and characters, I already feel at home. Can’t wait until Wrong Alibi is released!! I was given an ARC of Right Motive for my honest opinion: buy it!
This was such a fun read! It’s a stand alone Novella, but I would’ve loved if it were longer.
The story opens with Rockin, Alaska Police Department taking a call about a Bigfoot sighting. The town has been undergoing changes in the police department. Rodolphe Dumas, is the new police chief, coming in on the heels of the old corrupt chief. Chief Dumas has been doing a little housekeeping. New Officer Gabriella Donatti, the only female officer, draws the short end of the stick to check out the call. Her partner is out sick, so Chief Dumas rides along.
Dispatch alerts of another Bigfoot sighting. When Officer Donatti and Chief Dumas arrive at the location from the second call-in, they get quite the earful by a witness about bears, roars, & Bigfoot! When they arrive at the first location, before Chief Dumas finishes his investigation, he takes off in a hurry on a secret mission.
I think, my favorite part was the mama bear and her three cubs. This story is fast paced and filled with lots of humor, along with a mystery. Definitely, intriguing and left me wanting to learn more about the town and people!
I received a complimentary copy, and I have voluntarily reviewed this book.
