A pretty woman and a handsome rock star.A modern-day retelling of Cinderella by New York Times bestselling author Michelle Mankin.A once upon a time with a hooker who used to be a good girl and a bad boy lead singer living a lie.Two lost and lonely souls and a chance encounter on a dark street corner in LA.Is it happenstance, fate or a fairy tale? Can a hookup for cash become a happily ever after?
Reviews stated to think Cinderella meets Pretty Woman and what can I say? I am a suckered for a fairytale! Jewel and Rush have instant chemistry, but like in all fairytales the obstacles appear almost as quickly as the love. Rush is an alpha rocker with one he’ll of an attitude and ego, I was ready to see him fall and Jewel was the one to do it, but she also had her own life and personality struggles. He riled her up, she shook out his crazy. He got pissed, she threw it back at him. She would crack and he would shatter. Every yin needs a yang to balance, finding that they fit perfectly together was a battle that they both needed to lose to win.
The Right Man reminds me of Pretty Woman and a modern day fairy tale all rolled into one. Fantastic characters and all the feels. Rush and Jewel are two characters I won’t forget. Enjoyable read.
The Right Man reminded me so much of Pretty Woman in all the best ways. The storyline, the characters, the setting…..it was the perfect fairytale redemption story. Michelle Mankin is a new-to-me author and after reading The Right Man, I’ll definitely be checking out more of her stories!
The characters in this story are engaging and real. Jewel is strong and perseveres when all hope is lost. She does what she needs to do to survive but it hasn’t completely hardened her. She still has a tenderness that shines through even when she tries to hide it. Rush lives the ultimate rock star life: girls, booze, drugs, riches. But he’s tired of that life and putting on airs. When he meets Jewel he’s blown away by her beauty. The chemistry between the two is off-the-charts hot and they can’t keep their hands off of each other. I loved their connection—it was deep and Mankin really made me feel it deep down. I found myself believing in this couple from the very start. The secondary characters were great and I really hope Mankin gives us their stories. I’m so curious about Cam, Brad, Ben and Jack!
Overall, The Right Man is sexy, funny, emotional and fun. There’s much to love about the story so don’t miss it! 4.5 stars
A beautiful fairy tale written by a gifted author with a knack for romantic yet hot stories. Michelle Mankin writes with a style that makes you feel as if you know these people. A lost man, a woman who has a life she never wanted. Together they are perfect. Read this book, then read all of Ms. Mankin’s creations.
I had been waiting for this story since I read the first few chapters in Christmas with a Rockstar anthology. I knew from those few chapters this book was going to be awesome, and it is, it didn’t disappoint.
It’s heartwarming and a little bit heartwrenching , it made me swoon really heard for Rush, because he is awesome.
The amazing chemestry that Rush and Jewel have since their first encounter is everything, and makes every single moment so enjoyable. They are so passionate about each other, and that is everything.
Overall it was a great story, sexy, swoony, roamntic, sweet, with great characters and a good story line that will keep you hooked from the beginning.
And the valaubable lesson of this book that is to make the most of our time we have with everyone because we don’t know when it’ll be the last.
Who ever said fairy tales are not real lied! Michelle created a beautiful modern day Cinderella story of two broken people. Rush and Jewell story was not your typical love story and it definitely did not begin the way a love story typically begins. Jewell moved to LA to following who she thought was the love of her life and left the life she knew behind only to find the love of her life did not love her the way she loved him. She had to fight survive and she did what she had to, to survive. Then you have Rush who you would assume he is living the dream life but when you get a peak into his soul it is revealed he is broken.
I thought that Michelle did a great job of making you feel Rush and Jewell’s story. You were in on all the highs and lows of their relationship. I felt she did a great job of giving you what their lives before each other and with each other. I loved how the story had a natural progression in my opinion. Great read, it is my first book by Michelle and I will be reading more!

With The Right Man Mankin delivered a Cinderella/Pretty Woman/Ever After inspired romance that hit all the marks. She also scored with a story that proves love can conquer all!
Jewel is our heroine – a hooker with a heart (and eyes) of gold. Circumstances put her in her current position. Fate places her in Rush’s path. It’s easy to fall for and believe in this compassionate and loyal young woman. Especially considering the fact she can’t see her own worth.
Rush – our hero – is a rock star accustomed to getting anything he wants. So when Jewel puts him in his place with her sharp tongue, he’s intrigued. The longer he spends with her, the more time he longs for because she, unlike most others, sees him for who he is and appreciates him for all of it.
Mankin did a remarkable job at conveying the consequences of the paths these two had taken and the vulnerabilities they each felt. Because of past decisions and past mistakes they both felt as though the fell short and used virtual armor of sorts – Rush with his arrogance and Jewel with her disguise. But in each other’s eyes, they saw validation and completion. And despite being from two different worlds in the present, they came from similar backgrounds. Besides that, they had love and *singing* Love will keep us together. 😉
On a personal note, I’m very close to my grandmother. Jewel was raised by her Gran and I so appreciated Jewel’s sharing of the wisdom her Gran had imparted.
The Right Man is a delight. It’s a read sure to make you believe fairy tales can come true. And that love can conquer anything.
Rush & Jewel – their story is full of heartache but also healing, and on the heat scale – bonfire!!
I started out a bit trepidatious about the story. Rush starts out showing off his rock-n-roll manwhoring ways, of which I’m not a fan. And Jewel… I’m not a fan of the career choice she’s been forced into. I don’t like that for her (not that we’re supposed to) & it hurt my heart. So, their initial sexy time interactions didn’t work for me. The WHOLE story is well-written (including those scenes), however.
I highly enjoyed their non-job-related time together. They have this amazing connection, and discover the muse that each is to the other, which was some beautiful writing!
All in all, I highly recommend this story. I can’t gush about the writing enough – I love the cadence and the way all the characters are portrayed (even when I didn’t like what they had to go through). I loved seeing some cameos from other stories by this author! And it was a quick read, as well, very engaging story.
: )
Who doesn’t love a good rockstar romance? Plus combine it with a fairy tale….I do!! If you do too, then you HAVE to read this book!! Michelle Mankin delivers both of these in her fabulous new book, The Right Man!! Jewel always wanted the fairytale romance that her grandmother had and talked about, but she hasn’t gotten it yet. Rush wanted the fame and fortune of being a musician, but now that he’s a famous rock star, he realizes something is missing. When these two meet by coincidence, it’s love at first sight, they just don’t know it yet! They fight through the ups and downs before they finally get their HEA! This was hands down one of the best rockstar books that I’ve ever read!!! A MUST read!!

Be still my heart! I LOVED this story. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The fairytale-rocker romance was amazing and once I started the book, I couldn’t put it down!
There was something about the two main characters, Rush and Jewel that I loved. I adored them from start to finish, don’t get me wrong I wanted to smack them a little bit at times, but that’s normal. They both are a little broken because of what life has thrown at them, the choices they’ve made and their lifestyles- this has only made them stronger and they survived. The only down side of their lifestyles and choices was that they closed off their hearts. Their first meeting wasn’t what I was expecting, but there is this chemistry between them that was insane. These two needed each other, they just didn’t know it. Watching Rush and Jewel navigate finding their way to each other was so sweet. They found their happily ever after and it was perfect.
Mankin takes you on an emotional ride of watching these two find themselves and each other. There’s love, heartache and so many other emotions, but in the end you can’t help but love and these two! I can’t wait for more form the author!
Fairy tales MAY be fiction, ok so this is, but that doesn’t mean we can’t love them. And love this I do I do I do! Jewell isn’t living the fairy tale life her grandmother dreamed for her. Neither is Rush. Sure, he’s got that whole rock star thing going for him, but that’s all it is. A thing. Like he’s become. He’s not even a person anymore, but again, neither is she. Or at least to her clients. Yeah you read that right. She’s a prostitute. He’s a rock star. What could be better? Right! And that is what makes them perfect for each other. I mean after all … he is the right man ….
I will read anything this woman writes!! She’s amazing!
Full length stand-alone told in dual POV with HEA and super sweet epilogue. Rush is a lead singer and guitarist who just finished a long tour. His label Black Cat Records has just denied all the songs for the latest album and his drummer is ready to kill his bass player. Jewel is no stranger to homeless shelters and is barely getting by. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the fact that Jewel was a hooker, it just felt extreme for her personality (why not a stripper like her mom). The relationship between Jewel and her roommate felt very much like it came out of the movie Pretty Woman. A chance encounter between Rush and Jewel has them spending an hour together, then the hour turns into all night, then all night turns into a week, etc. Their back stories are good and through. They have a strong connection and the more they open up to each other the more they discover they have in common. I like that the book is them spending time together and the dialogue is between them and not in their heads. I liked their honesty with one another and the one misunderstanding felt natural and reasonable and I liked that it led to Jewel making better choices with her life. I also liked that Jewel was quick to forgive and move forward with Rush. It was great seeing the secondary characters from the Tempest series! ARC review.
I loved the way the book started out. With Jewel’s grandmother telling her a fairytales.
This story hit close to home. I was never a prostitute, but I lost my mother when I was young. I had to live with grandparents. Jewel learned a lot from her grandmother, but still made mistakes. I understand her very well. I think making those mistakes, and learning from is what lead her to Rush. Just how I think is what lead me to my husband. Fate has a funny way making out things for the better.
Rush turned out to be the Prince Charming he needed to be. He was the fairytale that Jewel’s grandmother told her about.
I really loved this book. I am very appreciative that I got read it. .
I was hooked the moment I started this book!!! Michelle has a way of bringing real life people alive in her writing. Rush and Jewel are my new favorites. The love and pain is so real and heart wrenching. I stayed up way to late reading it, I just couldn’t put it down. Literally until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore. I highly recommend this
*I received a free copy of The Right Man. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
The Right Man is a modern day fairytale! And I fell so hard for Rush and Jewel. I just loved how they clicked from the beginning – even with the odds unevenly stacked against them. And their story also showed us that love can conquer absolutely everything.
I adore a modern day Cinderella story! The story synopsis and beautiful cover grabbed my attention. The Cinderella in this story is a girl named Jewel and her Prince Charming is named Rush.
The story had me from the moment she got in his car! I believe that it is destiny that got them together that night. Both characters have secrets, creativity and big hearts. Both have pasts that have them feeling undeserving of love and riddled with guilt. Their courtship is sweet and super intense. But as with most relationships they have to weather a few storms before they get to the happily ever after….
