I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work – starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way. But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world? Only there’s so much … there’s so much more to him than that.
Billionaire playboy? Check.
Troubled soul? Check.
The owner of my heart, the man I’ve moved halfway across the country to be with, who’s laying the world at my feet in order to convince me to never leave? Check. Check. Check.
But nobody does complicated like the one percent.
This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.
“Rich Boy takes you on a literal ride! Funny. Angsty. There’s mean rich people and people you root for. It’s a definite recommend from me! –Tijan, New York Times bestselling author
“Rich Boy was witty, exciting and had the most intense slow burn romance I’ve read in a long time. The complexity of the characters was refreshing and made me wish for more!”—Audrey Carlan, #1 New York Times bestselling author

In The Rich Boy Kylie Scott puts her own unique spin on love for a touching story that shows her at her best.
This story started off with two struggling people trying to get by in life and finding a unique connection with each other that charted the course for them to embark on a sweet courtship. Isolated from their real lives their interactions during this time set the tone of their relationship for the entirety of this work. When Beck’s billionaire past caught up with him both he and Alice took their interest in each other to the next level as they committed to exploring their new and fragile feelings.
Beck’s devotion to his pursuit and emotional investment in Alice was staggering in its depth. He shook up his role of hero making human errors colored by the magnitude of his feelings for Alice. What made this character standout was not only was he authentic but he took ownership of his mistakes, always unerringly finding his way back to where his heart lay, Alice. Beck was a hero that was well intended and pure in his love even as at times he floundered in expressing it appropriately. He gave of his fortune and heart in equal large measures.
The character of Alice was as good as heroines get. She made no excuses for whom she was. Alice was so clear in her decisions even in moments of vulnerability, exhibiting doubts that most people could relate to. She did not try to make changes to herself that were superficial but ones that mattered showing her to be true to herself and those around her. At first glance Alice seemed like a good candidate for saving but the reality of the situation was Alice did not need rescuing as she was incredibly strong and ultimately was a savior in equal degrees to Beck.
Throughout this work this relationship remained stripped down to the basics even when surrounded by complications and opulence. This couple fell in love through friendship and put lust on the back burner which made this an interesting evolution. While hardly unattractive physically Beck and Alice dispelled the notion that heroes and heroines need to be in league with super models to be appealing to both readers and themselves. With well-executed emotional foreplay, distinctive gorgeous appearances and grounding flaws this couple brought individuality to Romancelandia.
Kylie Scott’s Romances are like old souls, they are deep, sensitive and introspective. She expertly see’s the heart with universal experience. This author’s writing is sophisticated in its simplistic messages that break down romance to everyday caring and living by showing the little things that grow into big things. There was a lovely inclusion in this work that blended in parts of Jane’s Austen’s Pride and Prejudice at key moments to this couple’s story that were comparable to the experiences of Elizabeth and Darcy’s relationship. Real and approachable Kylie Scott’s writing allows for everyone to find their HEA. The Rich Boy is worth a million stars and a spot on everyone’s TBR piles!
*I was given an advanced copy. All opinions expressed are my own.*
This book was addictive. I loved the back and forth between Alice and Beck. They are hilarious and very engaging. I also loved how Alice handled Beck’s family. Not letting them get to her too much and standing her ground. This story has a few steamy moments, not an overabundance and I think that took the story to another level emotionally.
This was a sweet fast paced feel good story that I really enjoyed. They way Kylie Scott tell the story that so many have, rich boy poor girl was perfection. She had me turning the pages as fast as I could and staying up late into the night to finish The Rich Boy.
Alice is a waitress in a bar in Los Angeles. Her life was pretty simple and boring until she meets the new busboy Beck. They become quick friends and he ends up being all she thinks about. They have great chemistry. Things change quickly for them when Beck has to leave, and she starts to learn things about him.
They haven’t known each other long so when Beck asks her to put her life on hold and go with him, she’s not sure what to do. The connection these two share is amazing and unlike anything either of them have felt for anyone else.
I loved Alice and Beck’s story and all the secondary characters. This was a sweet read that gave me all the feels.
DNF!!
Kylie Scott delivers yet another witty and wonderful story with THE RICH BOY!
“But nobody does complicated like the one percent.” Sounds right up my alley!
When Beck, the heir to the family dynasty, runs away to find himself, he wasn’t expecting to find Alice, the waitress in a dive bar that has stolen his heart. When they meet, she doesn’t know his real identity. He woos her with Jan Austen quotes, his charming personality, and his smile. While she’s desperate to get closer to him, he keeps his distance and continues to woo her. When he’s called back home to deal with the death of his father, he convinces her to come with him.
Alice is unique, and nothing like who he has dated in the past. She quickly is swept into his world, and learns why he ran away from his family. The two deal with the struggles of her being in “his world” and eventually throw down the gauntlet to make sure she stays.
This has the typical Kylie Scott strong, witty woman, and a connection between the two characters that makes this a great read. Beck’s family has some secrets, and I hope that she continues this series with others in the family.
I really liked Alice. She felt so authentic and just a regular girl trying to find her place after college. She’s a waitress and can’t help the new bus boys cute and totally flattering flirting. Beck is instantly drawn to Alice. He’s already mentally planning their wedding. I can’t tell you how much I love that role reversal. Anyways, Alice tries to pit up the good fight but really, she didn’t stand a chance. These two had insta-spark, insta-chemistry. Of course a few dates in and the rug is pulled out from them. But I love that Alice lays it all on the line and drops it all. Now the fun really starts!!!
You’ll have to read it find out more! I found it to be a serious sweet read. I don’t mind good insta-love story when the guy is seriously smitten. Kylie Scott definitely pulled out all the stops for The Rich Boy; it was just so sweet and charming. I couldn’t get enough of Alice and Beck and the secondary characters were fabulous!! Such a group! It all comes together giving off these slight fairytale vibes… like Cinderella. It’s a classic for a reason!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.

The Review:
This book was just a whole lot of FUN!! I love, loved it!
Alice is a waitress at a dive bar. When the sexy new busboy starts to flirt with her, she’s wary but also interested and intrigued. They click instantly. Beck has secrets and seems to be a wanderer. Alice has been hurt by a past relationship. But a bond is definitely forming. When Beck is unexpectedly called back home, Alice has a choice – join him and see where their bond leads, or give up on a chance at something great. But when she joins him, his life is so far from her own. The flirty good times they started with becomes a tricky, rolling hill of complications.
The rich guy who falls for the common girl isn’t a new trope. It’s been done many times before. But if done right, if given a new take and a new twist, it can give you all those fluttering feels and good vibes you desire from your reads. THIS is that book!
I enjoyed Alice a lot. She was smart, quick-witted and didn’t put up with anyone’s mean-girl act. She has insecurities, but she didn’t let them rule her or keep her from new adventures. When Beck flirts, he’s got heartbreak written all over him, but she takes a chance and goes for it. She does this many times throughout the book. I loved that audacious, courageous side of her.
Beck Elliot… what can I say about this clever, amazing, sexy, hero? He was the bee’s knees! He was sweet and fun and just a delight to read. He was definitely the alpha male with a soft side. He had his own insecurities, but he wasn’t stuck in his ways and he was open to change. He lavished upon Alice and loved her just the way she was. He was the total “swoon” package!
The chemistry between Beck and Alice was on point right from the start. Fun and entertaining at first. Then the fuse was lit and wanton touches, hungry kisses, and firey looks ultimately exploded into hot passion and lusty good times! A true slow burn that kept me invested all the way through. My only quibble? It might have been a little too slow.
The banter… I have to talk about the awe-inspiring, absolutely out-of-this-world banter between ALL the characters. The story was good. The characters were great. The banter though? That brought it all together making this one fabulous read!
The Rich Boy was a slow burn, sweet romance with two stunning and vibrant mains I instantly fell in love with. Light on conflict and angsts, this was a playful, satisfying read that kept me going until the very end. When I hit the last page, I wanted more, more, more!
Did I say I loved it? Because I totally did!
So, this was not what I was expecting. It’s a little different from what I am used to when it comes to Kylie’s books but in saying that… I still really enjoyed it!
This is kind of like a modern-day fairytale.
Alice is a witty little thing, she is a hard-working waitress at a bar in Santa Monica, and she is trying to figure out what to do next with her life and her new degree in English Lit. So while she tries to work that out, she continues to the waitress. Beck is a new employee. He seems fun, playful and outgoing, but there is something about him, he’s a little mysterious. It doesn’t take him long to sweet-talk Alice, flirting with her and the two of them start to form a bond. They both like each other’s company and like each other and they get along so well. It’s kind of perfect. but it doesn’t take long before that changes. Beck is summoned to come back home to his family in Colorado, which brings us to him asking her to take a chance on them and come with him. But does she know what she is getting herself into? Is taking this chance worth it? She had no idea how different their two worlds were. She isn’t used to being in the public eye or being around a family like his. How they act, how they do business, how they live. It’s all so different and so far out of her comfort zone. Not all of them are happy she’s there… Can she hold her own when it comes to his family? Or will they be a deal-breaker for her?
You will have to read to find out!
This was an awesome read. It was fun, sweaty, and funny. Not what I would expect when it comes to Kylie Scott, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome! The character development was perfection and the storyline, plot and Ms. Scott’s writing flowed with ease all the way through the book. She painted quite the picture in my head and I found myself swooning hard over Beck and Beck and Alice as a couple.
Take a chance, this may be a little different from the authors’ normal work but seriously, take a chance! It was worth it!

A funny, light-hearted Cinderella story
Always one of my favorite authors, I’ve been looking forward to this new book for a while now. Long past the fresh-out-of-college age myself, this is one of the few authors writing about that age group I still read, probably because I always find it so easy to relate to her heroines. Note this story is told from Alice’s first person point of view.
Alice is exactly the kind of leading lady I’ve come to expect from this author: curvy and smart, with a love for literature and her share of insecurities. Beck was pretty relatable, too: “When you have a cell, then people you don’t necessarily want to be able to contact you can do so and it’s just a steep road to hell from there.” Alice and Beck both use humor and sarcasm as a shield; they reminded me a little of Mal and Anne from the author’s Stage Dive series, with Beck’s semi-outrageous flirting (though he’s nowhere near Mal’s level of crazy, but then who is?) and the way Alice takes it all in stride, albeit a bit cautiously. While their back and forth put a smile on my face from page one, it didn’t take much longer to see that Beck was hiding some pain behind the flirty, hot guy facade.
There’s plenty of instant attraction between the two, but this is more of a slow burn story, though not necessarily from lack of trying on Alice’s part. I have to say, it was kind of refreshing to read a story where it’s the guy who wants to take his time. They each have a history of getting burned by past relationships, but Beck is determined that going slow is the key to building a relationship that will last. And he very much wants their relationship to last.
While there are a number of interesting secondary characters around, it’s Beck’s largely dysfunctional family that fills the majority of those roles, and here’s hoping older brother Ethan gets a storyline his own. A fast, fun read for me, my only real criticism is that I felt like we’ve seen some of these storylines from this author before: an everyday, average Jane getting thrown into a world of wealth and fame, plus an ex who’s still involved with the family (Lick), a sibling with an on-again/off-again relationship (Dirty), and I’ve already mentioned Beck’s resemblance to Mal (Play). None of this really detracted from the book for me, as I loved all those previous stories, just don’t go into it expecting anything different.
With plenty of humor, plus a few touching moments as well, this is a funny, light-hearted, modern take on a Cinderella story, with a healthy dose of Jane Austin thrown in. I loved watching Alice step into her new role while refusing to change who she really was. And I was definitely cheering for her when she showed a few of Beck’s family members just what she was made of. 4.5 stars
Not your average billionaire romance! Kylie Scott has created something remarkable with this book. Rich boy flips every cliche billionaire romance stereotype on its head.
Alice is an independent, confident woman who can fight her own battles and doesn’t take any crap from those around her. Beck’s level of wit and snark can only be compared to Mal Erickson from Stage Dive (also created by Kylie Scott). Alice and Beck’s banter is amazing and there were many points in this book where I cracked up laughing. His use of literary quotes and seriousness regarding the commitment of their relationship made him instantly lovable. There was just the right amount of drama without it getting crazy, and a good mix of characters you love, hate and love to hate. I hope that some of the other characters in this book get their own stories. This book was nothing that I expected and everything I needed.
I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.
What a wild ride! At first, I thought this was going to be a similar storyline to The Prince and Me, and while there are a few similarities, this book is all its own and I couldn’t get enough! Alice is barely making ends meet waitressing and can’t stand her job, but that’s all about to change thanks to the new mysterious busboy Beck. Propositioning her to be his wife, Alice thinks he’s joking, but Beck is actually serious, and as they spend time together after work the closer they get and the stronger their connection gets. But when Beck’s found and has to return home, he’s reluctant to give Alice all the answers she desperately needs, especially when she uproots her life and goes to him. While they both are willing and wanting to give things a try, it seemed that their separate financial statuses always took center stage. I was definitely blindsided by some of the things Beck does in the book but I also found that I was shocked Alice forgave him so easily for those things. Overall, it was another enjoyable read from Kylie, although less suspenseful than her typical storylines.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
*´°`*•. 5 STAR REVIEW .•*´°`*
I love romance that’s just a little bit fantastical, and The Rich Boy checked that box and many more for me. I have a weak spot for books and/or movies that feature a rags-to-riches love story, this trope is a personal favorite of mine, and this charming, beautifully written Slow Burn romance pulled at my heart strings! I fell in love with both main characters, but the star of the show is Alice; she kept swinging at every curveball that came her way, and by the HEA ending she was batting a thousand!
“When he looks back at me, there’s a fire, a passion in his eyes that burns right through me. I am ash. And he is still everything.”
Alice Lawrence realized majoring in English Lit might have been a mistake, she can’t find a job in her field. Despite having a degree she was working at a dive bar off of Santa Monica, a job she hates. It barely pays the rent but she’s used to making ends meet and budgeting, her parents are both schoolteachers. The only thing that makes the job bearable is the new gorgeous busboy that knows how to quote Jane Austen, claims he’s loaded, and insists she’s going to marry him. Alice is more than a little skeptical, she thinks she’s a six and he’s a ten on the looks meter, so he must want something else.
“I am utterly beguiled. That’s the word for it. This man is the perfect mix of funny, gorgeous, and intriguing.”
Beck Elliot has basically walked away from his previous life. He’s been wandering around the States for the last six months, staying at hostels and working odd jobs that pay him in cash and don’t ask questions. When he meets Alice he’s smitten by her and decides he wants to pursue her, slowly. He talks her into going out after work and they begin to get to know each other. Or so Alice thinks.
“Broken hearts and dreams can turn to rage and cruelty so easily.”
When Beck is informed his father has died, and he needs to return to Colorado immediately, he wants Alice to go with him. But she refuses to, it would be crazy, they barely know each other. When she decides to meet him there, days later, she’s in for the surprise of her life!
“Why can’t you pander to me like everyone else does?” “Wow. No. I’m afraid you chose the wrong girlfriend for that.”
Beck Elliot’s father was billionaire Jack William Elliot Junior, of Elliot Industries. They had a falling out over something Beck considered a betrayal and was the reason he’d left. When Jack dies unexpectedly Beck and his three half-siblings inherit a fortune, and as their controlling grandmother, Catherine, makes clear, they have a position to uphold in Colorado society. It comes as a shock to everyone when Beck introduces “my Alice” to them at Jack’s wake. And Catherine is not happy, at all.
“I’m not particularly gifted at manipulation or subterfuge. Games of strategy are lost on me. Avoidance, however, I can do.”
Alice is shocked, too. She did not expect Beck to have money, or to be pushed to dress and look a certain way. But soon she’s transformed to fit in, something she does only to please Beck. But Catherine makes it clear she’s not “their class”. Beck wants Alice by his side, and wants to take things slow with Alice, despite living together. It’s the first time a woman has liked him for himself, and not his money, name, or status. It’s true, money doesn’t buy you happiness, and soon there are problems caused by family members and exes and a few things that Beck has tried to hide.
“I L you.” “You L me?” “It could be like. It could be love. I honestly can’t tell anymore.”

Oh Beck! Your crazy sweetness stole my heart and made me swoon so hard. I loved this unique rags to riches, rich boy/broke girl fairytale of a romance. After only knowing Beck for a very short period of time, Alice dumps her crappy job (one of my fave scenes) and moves halfway across the country to be with him. I give her mad props for trying to find her place in his crazy rich world. The whole approach to this unconventional story was totally different than any I’ve read before and I loved it so much.

I absolutely love Kylie Scott’s books but this one fell flat for me.
The first half was ok but I had to force myself to finish the rest. I kept hoping for the “it” factor that always wows me in Ms. Scott’s books.
It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t good.
“This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.” …. BRING IT
What is this madness I just read?! <<< (in a totally fabulous way!) Kylie Scott totally BROUGHT IT with this story!
While this is a billionaire meets broke girl story Kylie it adds an interesting aspect to it I’ve not seen before. Alice is broke, down on her luck and working as a waitress just trying to meet ends meet. Beck is a bus boy at the same restaurant Alice works at and while working sparks soon fly between the couple.
These two may have been polar opposites in a lot of ways but their connection was strong and they both wanted to make it work. They of course stumbled along the way but that just made me love them even more. Beck wants nothing more than to be able to take care of Alice and while she appreciates his sweet attitude she also doesn’t want to be handed everything.
While this story may not reinvent the wheel it is a sweet, good story with a swoon worthy hero that all of us girls want at some point or another.
What I’ve always loved about Kylie Scott’s stories is that her heroines are everyday women – ones with curves, with insecurities, with intelligence, with backbones. They’re not fragile or withering flowers, and they refuse to change who they are for anyone, even if it’s the men who own their hearts.
And in Scott’s newest release, The Rich Boy, the female lead, Alice Lawrence, has all the characteristics I’ve come to love about the author’s leading ladies, and while Alice may be a little less driven than some and not have a true direction for where she wants her life to head, she still works hard to provide for herself and do the things she wants to, and at 22 years-old, she has time to decide and might as well live life as fully as she can.
Enter Beck – the new busboy where she waitresses – and let me tell you, the way these two meet and their instantaneous connection make it seem like they’re destined to be together, and Beck definitely agrees since he’s ready to start planning their wedding after only knowing each other for a few days, which may be a bit presumptuous but it sure is cute that he’s already imagining all the things he could have with Alice.
If Alice and Beck could have stayed in their California bubble, things would have proceeded at a quick pace because it’s more than clear that they want more from each other than just conversation and flirty interactions. But when Alice lands in Beck’s true ‘reality,’ the rules change…the environment changes…and Alice gets bombarded with all the ways she doesn’t fit into Beck’s Colorado lifestyle – one that is filled with large sums of money and affluent individuals who aren’t too keen on allowing an outsider and a nobody into their world.
Some readers might not appreciate just how slow the burn is of this story, but, to me, it fits the characters and the situation that they find themselves in when they get to Colorado. Alice is shell shocked when she learns just how different her life was/is compared to Beck’s most eligible bachelor and richest guy moniker in his hometown and state. And as both Alice and Beck try to work around the complications and the obstacles that are placed in front of them, they focus on what matters most, to them, and nobody else, and even if it’s easier said than done with what they’re facing, they’re willing to risk it all for a chance at what feels a lot like love.

Alice and Beck light up the pages. This Cinderella love story is sweet and quirky in equal measure. Their banter from first meeting carries throughout the story and makes them a more endearing couple. Alice doesn’t fir the mold of what is expected of Beck, but expectations be dammed because this is a couple that was destined to meet. As Alice adapts to becks world, we get glimpses of both of their insecurities, but they quickly determine that honesty and truthfulness are the keys to building a strong relationship. It is Beck and Alice against the world and his family. I still have a smile across my face.
