I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work – starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way. But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world? Only there’s so much … there’s so much more to him than that.
Billionaire playboy? Check.
Troubled soul? Check.
The owner of my heart, the man I’ve moved halfway across the country to be with, who’s laying the world at my feet in order to convince me to never leave? Check. Check. Check.
But nobody does complicated like the one percent.
This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.

Alice is working as a waitress at a bar in Santa Monica while trying to decide what to do with her somewhat useless English Lit degree.
Enter Beck. It’s his first night working at the bar and he’s super-attracted to Alice – so much that he’s already picked out the wedding flowers and the font for the invitations! LOL!
Alice is not really sure if she should give in to his über-flirting. But he’s so sweet and insisting and hot and funny and adorable and hot!
Fast forward a few days – of dating and talking and taking things slow – Beck is called back home to Denver.
And we’re coming too! Because he’s asking and nothing much keeps us in California anyway.
Let the fun times begin – because this hot, mysterious guy is more or less Colorado’s most eligible billionaire bachelor and his family … is … A LOT!
What will happen with Alice & Beck??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!
Aww, that was sweet!!!!
It starts as this super adorable and funny and sparky flirt-fest in Santa Monica.
And then we’re in Denver amidst billionaires and jealous exes and mean grandmas and crazy and funny siblings and business decisions and questions about the future and closets full of designer stuff! Such a fun story!
I loved reading this.
Beck and Alice are soo adorable.
It feels a bit über-insta with how hard Beck tries to win her over. As if he already knew her from a previous life or from a dream and he just knows that this is his happily ever after person. But not in a bad way. It was just all so mega adorable.
A really sweet slow-burn-fairy-tale-ish love story. But through all that slow-burn-ish-ness we still have so many amazingly flirty and sparky and sexy moments! I just loved this book.
I loved how Alice tried to find her place in this rich people world. I loved the siblings and friends. Great cast of people!
I didn’t like grandma one bit – a great grandma would’ve made this story even better!
And Beck was a tiny little bit too softish/insecure. I loooved him, but he was such a sad and lost little rich boy sometimes.
And the slow-burn thing. It was a bit too much. A little more sexiness earlier would’ve been better.
BUT – I just adored this book!
I so wouldn’t mind seeing this on Netflix one day!
Kylie Scott is back! This book starts slow but stick with it – once we enter the hero’s world, it becomes a rich, detailed and highly entertaining romance.
The heroine is a hoot in her interactions with his dysfunctional family, and the romance is heart-felt. A very fun twist on who is holding out and who is pushing for more.
Hoping older bro gets his own book too.
I’m torn on how to review this book. On one side I loved the idea and how Beck and Alice met, how they progressed as a couple and the secondary characters, but I felt like the story was very fast paced and it was hard to really grasp the romance aspect. Alice was a strong character and I am so grateful for that. I likely would have stopped reading if it wasn’t for her. The opposites attract part (him being rich and her being…. well, a waitress) was my favorite part. There was family drama that surrounded the hero and that was entertaining. I felt bad that the heroine was just thrown into it all but she handled her self beautifully. In the end, the overall story just felt like it was lacking. I have read other books by this author but this one wasn’t my favorite. 3 stars #2OCCJD
The Rich Boy was a sweet kind of reverse Cinderella story that was a crazy mash-up of insta-love and slow-burn. The characters were likeable enough but I didn’t feel a huge connection to them. There was not a lot of conflict until closer to the end and that’s when it really picked up for me. I know a lot of people loved it, but it just didn’t really work for me. Still, I will continue to read the heck out of this author!
Question from the blurb: But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world?
Answer: You can’t.
…and nither could I. I LOVE THIS ONE!
When I signed up to read this one, I had no idea it was gonna be a “fairytale” style story. I only saw the name “Kylie Scott” and I knew I had to read it 😉
This was definitely a “fluffy” kind of story with the best kind of hero to boot!! Sometimes, these kinds of stories are exactly what the doctor ordered. It sure came at the right time for me after reading multiple angsty reads.
Alice is a waitress and Beck is a flirty busboy, trying to gain her attention….which of course he does 😉 They have instant chemistry and it is apparent right from the very start that these two are “meant to be”.
But Beck isn’t just a busboy though…. He also comes from money, lots and lots of money. And when circumstances force him back home, he takes Alice with her.
Talk about coming from different worlds!!! Alice was definitely shocked beyond belief. She is not so sure she belongs in his world. No worries though, because Beck is awesome.
I really liked Alice. She was a very strong and independent woman, but Beck… he stole the show. I closed this book with a huge smile on my face. I really needed that!
Highly recommended!!

WOW!!! (Its funnier after you read the book, but still true)
First, if you are a Kylie Scott fan, let me say that Beck and Alice give me a lot of Mal and Anne vibes. SWOON! Alice is a college graduate working as a waitress/bartender just trying to figure out life. Beck is the mysterious new bus boy who has caught her eye. Alice is pleasantly surprised, if not confused, when the “10” to her “6” shows her interest and offers to buy her the perfect ring the first time they meet. The next few days are spent learning about one another and falling fast until a flashy black SUV comes to call Beck home. Despite taking things physically slow, “I will kiss you,” he whispers in my ear. “When the time is exactly, perfectly, without a doubt right.”, Alice misses Beck so much and misses what might have been.
“Beck smiles. But it is a tired, weary one. “Wife. Get on the plane,”
“You’re not the boss of me.”
“No. But I’d like to be. That’d be fun. Or you could be the boss of me. Whatever.”
Luckily a few days of wallowing later, he sends someone to bring her to him. Thus, begins her introduction to The Elliott Family, Denver royalty, and all the crap that goes with them.
There are obvious struggles with Beck’s family taking to the girl who isn’t worthy or of their status. Between the family drama, the ex-girlfriend and simply getting to know each other, Alice and Beck are in for a ride.
Will love be enough for them, or will the differences in their lives and the less than supportive family be too much? What happens when Alice is landed a blow by finding out Beck’s secrets? I promise this book will have you wanting more from Alice, Beck and the whole Elliott clan!
Dysfunctional family at its finest…or it’s worst. They fell hard and fast and the truth could really drive them apart. It’s the manipulation and lies, secrets that are at the very core of the story. And while I’m not surprised at the direction the story took. I was disappointed. Character, trust and honesty emerged but after the damage was done.
Thank you Kylie Scott for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Rich Boy

REVIEW
Well, I was just now scrolling through my reviews and realized I had not reviewed this book. Months ago, Kylie Scott kindly sent me a complimentary copy of her book. I’m so sorry I didn’t review earlier!
The Rich Boy was fun to read. Beck is a bit different from the normal hot rich guy. He seems smarter and more sensitive to women than other men might be. Alice is just kinda drifting and untethered from her hopes and dreams. With Beck, Alice begins to see her worth because he gives her the validation she needs. I love Beck because he accepts Alice as she is and doesn’t want to change a thing. That is refreshing and awesome. Alice is lucky!
My only problem is with the amount of time Beck and Alice spent together before the rich goons came to take him away from this poor ordinary existence. It felt like they were just barely opening up and being serious, then, very suddenly, this part is over. More time before the money was needed in my opinion.
Otherwise, Alice assimilates well into a foreign world of nuances and trickery where any misstep is the worst thing ever. Alice makes this huge change, so is Beck worthy of her sacrifice? Will Beck treat Alice differently in monied company? I’m not going to tell you, so you better go read the book! It’s a delightful read for a bit of escapism!
Like the title says, this is about a rich boy and the girl from the other side of the tracks. The couple met while he was busing tables at the bar she served at. Little did she know he actually could have bought the bar, and then some. He was away from his family and fortune trying to find himself. She was just trying to make ends meet until she decided what she really wanted to do with her life and her degree. She is smart and strong in the face of scrutiny. He is a little bit of a mystery, but does what he can to make her feel comfortable when she is tossed into a whole new world (his world.) I enjoyed all the Jane Austin references and quotes the two shared together (both being fans.) Him using them to woo her. Of course, with this girl who comes from basically nothing, his family treat her as such, and worry about her being a gold digger. She doesn’t cower to them though. She holds her head high, until she realizes not everything is as it seems. His family may not have taking a liking to her, they weren’t all bad, and by the end, there was more good than evil among them. I liked that fact that while there was the big ‘break-up’ scene, she didn’t actually break up with him. She took the time to really think about things and decided they could work on things. It was a refreshing change from the usual. I also liked that the steps in their friendship moved fast, their actual romantic relationship was at a slow pace… too slow for her tastes. It was kinda cute being it was his decision to move slow and not have sex right away. It may have moved slow, but there is some sexual content. There was plenty of humor, and at the same time, there was a heavier story running in the background (surrounding his family, their money and lifestyles.) It was an all round good and enjoyable read. I did notice a few editing errors… spelling errors mostly. It reads quickly and easily. It is from just her POV.
This was my first book by Kylie Scott and even though it was not what I was expecting, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Alice is a beautiful twenty-two year old working as a waitress in a dive bar in Santa Monica, unsure what she wants to do with her life. Beck, the Austen quoting, sexy new busboy at work, is attracted to Alice and they begin to hit it off. They spend time together after their shifts, flirt, and their feelings for each other grow. When a family tragedy forces Beck back to Colorado, he asks Alice to leave with him. But Beck has a secret – he’s rich. Will Alice take the leap and accept everything about Beck and his world? Or will his secrets and family push her away?
The conversation and chemistry between Beck and Alice is great. I loved their witty banter. This was quite the slow-burn romance which I am not used to, but I enjoyed it. At first, you hate Beck’s family, but their character development and acceptance towards the end was pretty good. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more of the busboy-waitress relationship before Alice became part of Beck’s fancy world, because I absolutely loved that, but it was a great read!
This is very much an offbeat fairytale featuring a slow burn romance and a family that would fit perfectly amongst E! Entertainment’s long list of über rich types reality shows. I was a bit lost at the beginning because I felt like I was dropped into the story a few chapters in and missed the important bit where Alice and Beck first met and instantly hit it off. They just simply get on while he’s working as a busboy and she’s a waitress. He quotes Austen to her which is a surefire way to win her over as she was an English Lit major. He calls her “wife”, they hang out after work but everything is very much above board. He doesn’t try to squirm his way into her pants or make any other move though it’s clear they’re both into each other. He’s living a bare bones lifestyle and is evasive about his personal life only saying that he needed some time to himself. Then someone in a snazzy suit shows up to tell him he’s needed at home and off he goes. He leaves an open invitation for Alice to follow him back to Colorado and …. she takes him up on it! Mind you, they’ve only known each other for a matter of a few days. Not weeks or months. Days. She throws all caution out the window to join him and the moment she boards a private jet she is literally dropped into another world.
The best way to approach The Rich Boy is to suspend all disbelief and not impose your own opinions as to how you think Alice should react or behave and just go with it. There were plenty of times when my mind went, “but…but…but…” and I had to shut it up and lose the judgment. The entire situation is bizarre and surreal, and it’s crazy how easily Alice adapts to certain situations or even how unquestioningly some of his family accept her into the fold. There’s a whole lot of eccentricity and privilege thrown around that’ll make your eyes bulge out of their sockets but somehow it works. That’s because Beck does mean well and Alice tries to hold onto the sassy person that she is, and they’re surrounded by some quirky and spirited characters as well, so they’re not entirely in their own bubble.
I am forever a Kylie Scott fangirl because of her humour. The Stage Dive and Dive Bar series are great examples of that. With The Rich Boy she embarks on a different approach, going for the more outlandish and something that really is far removed from most of our realities. Her humour is still there, the witty banter and smart heroines are still intact. This is different. It has a soap opera-reality show vibe, and as I said, suspend disbelief and enjoy the nuttiness.

Easy read! If you like stories that are instalove this one is for you. I struggled a bit at the beginning but I am glad that i carried on reading.
I mean who wouldn’t give up their life to follow a hot , rich man?
However, it is not that easy and their relationship will face hurdles for sure. Prince Charming BECK is the ideal man and the cover of the book makes him look even more perfect. I LOVED HIM!!!
Somehow, the heroine, Alice, is a very strong and independent woman while also being a push-over. While she refuses to take jobs that would turn into careers where she’d be unhappy, she’s stuck in a rut at her waitressing job at a bar. While she has resolve, she lacks a bit of motivation.
Beck seems like a dream guy, but he has his secrets. Once that secrets come out, so does the full picture of Beck. Not that he’s a bad guy, he’s not. But he’s used to being in charge and people “yes sir”-ing him. In all fairness, when he reverts to this behavior and it’s pointed out he does adjust his attitude and try to correct the issue. It just happens a bit too much. It’s his nature.
While Alice and Beck are amazing when it’s just the two of them together, when you throw in his family and others that surround Beck on a daily basis, things get knocked askew. That’s when Alice’s stiff backbone come in handy. But even the strongest women can only take so much when the man she loves keeps secrets (to protect her) and half of his family is trying to run her out of town.
I enjoyed Beck’s siblings. They surprised me over and over, in good ways and in bad. I loved them and hated them in equal measure, until the end when I loved them all. And while the relationship between Alice and Beck had its ups and downs, I was rooting for the couple. I was hoping for more chemistry. It was there, especially in the beginning, but I wanted more by the middle of the story. I also really adore the way they meet and that first short bit of getting to know each other.
As usual, Kylie Scott kept me turning pages and entertained throughout.

I always love the humor that comes with Kylie Scott’s books, the sarcasm makes me giggle and the one-liners are hilarious. This heroine was amazingly strong in the face of all the adversity coming at her and made her presence not only known, but respected. A great tale of Rich Boy meets “normal girl” but written with a different flare.
The Rich Boy by Kylie Scott
I am voluntarily reviewing this ARC.
Alice meets Beck at work. She waitresses and he busses. They start flirting in a witty, almost fairy tale sort of way. Until one day he reveals that his family business is calling him back home. Alice is surprised, and saddened because she’s feeling things she’s never felt for another man. Beck shocks her by asking her to drop everything, take a leap of faith and go with him.
He’s not surprised when she says no. But he doesn’t give up. When she’s offered again that giant leap of faith, she closes her eyes and jumps.
She lands on the other side in the life of an extremely wealthy family in the midst of Becks father’s death.
Her new world consists of charity dinners and catty women. And more money than she can fathom.
This story is a page turner and and the characters, loving and compelling. Five beloved stars for this beauty!
Alice can believe that the new busboy when he talks to her implying, she’s going to be his wife, wondering if he’s been put up to it. He’s cute a ten in her books, he says he’s in possession of a good fortune and she wants proof, he wants to go out to discuss their wedding plans but flirting back says she doesn’t want to rush.
Thinking that perhaps it’s just a bad joke, Alice soon realises that Beck is going to continue with wanting her to be his wife to go with his good fortune, she goes along with him, he’s a busboy, she’s over the fairy tale of the happily ever after, but Beck is slowly wearing her down.
Beck has to return home and he wants Alice to come with him, take an adventure, at first she doesn’t, but she misses Beck and when someone turns up offering to take her to him she decides to take the leap and go. What happens when she finds out Beck isn’t just a busboy, and they have to fight against people that don’t want Alice in Beck’s world, can they win.
I tried to escape…
So, the Corona Virus…
I really tried to shut out the world and all our woes to escape into The Rich Boy. I absolutely loved the Pretty Woman vibe and loved Beck’s swoon-worthy and romantic antics to get Alice’s attention.
BUT…
My brain wouldn’t turn off from what’s going on in my life and I couldn’t help wondering how these characters would cope or deal with Covid 19?
How are the rich people coping with Corona Virus?
Are their staff obligated to keep on serving to their needs?
Do the staff and the rich self-isolate/hang out together?
Will their money protect them from the virus?
Can you run a multi-billion dollar company remotely?
I wonder if they worry about running out of toilet paper?
So, while I absolutely loved The Rich Boy, I found myself intensely distracted by real life.
A little part of me is always sad that I’m not the one being showered in diamonds and waited on hand and foot. Then, reality comes in and I realise that money does not buy you happiness and is attached to some very unfortunate side-effects. I would hate having my photo taken without my knowledge. I would hate having to make speeches and appear at fundraisers where I was under constant scrutiny. I would hate having my hubby accosted and having to accept that I play second-fiddle to “business” talk. I’m thankful there are stories like this in my world because it makes me realise, I’m happy with what I’ve got.
This is not a story about…or not just about a lady getting swept off her feet and treated like a princess. I absolutely loved that Beck and Alice met before she was even aware he came from money. I would have preferred to see them together a bit longer before he whisks her away to his real life. I just felt like I needed more of them together as just the busboy, Beck and the waitress, Alice. I needed more time to believe that Alice wasn’t making a silly choice in flying to another city for a man she had only known for a few days.
This is what I would call a slow-burn romance and it definitely worked for me. Their mutual desire and attraction jumped off the pages, and when they finally come together, IT’S HOT!
I found myself smiling a lot while reading this story. Both Beck and Alice are funny, and I loved that Beck used Jane Austen’s words to lure Alice into his clutches. There were a lot of quotes from Pride and Prejudice that made me sigh in delight.
While there are some hurdles this couple must pass, I had faith in their success because they didn’t give up. As a couple, they worked together to conquer their problems and discussed how they would get to the other side. I believed that this couple will make it together.
I loved that Alice’s size didn’t define her. Sure, she had some insecurities about lumps and bumps but she was also comfortable with who she was. This confidence was appealing and made her size irrelevant to their relationship and attraction. It was even more appealing that Beck’s attraction didn’t seem to be about…or not about her size. I’m not a fan when it’s ALL about size/ confidence/ health/ weight.
I finished The Rich Boy with a smile on my face but I really feel like I need more. I want Ethan (Beck’s brother) to take a chance on love again. I want to see how Emma (Beck’s sister) and Matias are going and if their marriage will survive the second time around. I hated that Henry has such a selfish cow for a mother. I want Henry to live with Beck and Alice full-time as the poor kid needs some stability in his life. The Elliot’s are a crazy bunch with some serious issues but most of them are lovable. If Kylie Scott decided to make this into a series, I would not be disappointed.
I love this author’s work and I will definitely be back for more.
The Rich Boy is a sweet, refreshing slow burn story. Beck and Alice have a fire that can’t be extinguished and thank goodness since the odds are stacked against them. Oh man did I want to smother Beck’s grandma with a pillow. I did love that Alice was not afraid to stand up for herself and I appreciated her sass. Becks could learn a thing or two from her. This story will make you laugh, want to smack someone, and make you smile. Love conquers all.
Tracey, Life Reads With Friends
It starts as him acting as a busboy, then it turns out he’s from a rich family. There’s kind of deception there. I don’t really feel the emotional connection between them. He was trying to change her and I don’t agree with the way he did it. He was trying to fit her in his rich family.
Their witty banter was off the charts, I liked that part of the book. I was looking really forward to this one, but it just didn’t do it for me..
