Urcelia Teixeira’s „The Rhapta Key“ is the first full-length story introducing Alex Hunt, a female artifact hunter with a somehow unfitting trait, since her mother disappeared in a quest to find the legendary Rhapta Key she has become agoraphobic and have been unable to leave the house. Thus, when her father also goes missing searching for the evasive relic, she has to confront her fears and embark in an adventure that would bring her to Africa.
Due to her agoraphobia Alex is in not shape to travel alone, thus she gets assigned a travel/care companion. Sam Quinn is a wonderful character and nothing like Alex (or the reader) will expect for the role, he has the ability to calm Alex down, when her phobia/nerves get the best of her, while still treating her like a fully able human being. Needless to say, that Sam’s character is my own opinion the most likeable character of the book. The search for Rhapta results in an action-packed adventure that remains intrigued until the very end. While the legend of Rhapta is based in actual facts, the plot is a loosely interpretation of those and all the more enjoyable.
Being this the first installment in a series, I’m looking forward to witness Alex Hunt development in general (and her dealings with her agoraphobia in particular) through the upcoming adventures.
Non-stop action!
What an action-packed adventure this book turned out to be! As the lead character, Alexandra Hunt aka Alex, receives news that her father has gone missing, she quickly moves into action to find him. Who knew the field of archaeology could be so dangerous as well as fulfilling? Fantastic story! Highly recommended!
Like real life, the book has its twists and turns, each one changing the whole outlook of those living through it. I enjoyed Alex Hunt and would read more of her.
Entertaining action and likeable characters. I would have given it five stars, but the ending was a little abrupt and not really believable.
Somewhat predictable, but fun none the less.
Alex is a great character. Her transformation was amazing, her love for her family and extended family profound. The archaeological facts were well explained and the story seemed partially fantasy which is generally not something I enjoy. It worked here. Well written with realistic characters it was impossible for me to put down. Great read!
Imaginative and interesting story. Well done to the end
Great original story with interesting twists that kept me turning pages.
I did enjoy reading this book and would recommend it to anybody looking for a light read.
Truly an female Indiana Jones.
Kept me up almost all night as I continued to promise myself just one more chapter.
I would like a little more character development
The writing was immature.
Actually, since I am looking for more books written by this author, you could say I certainly loved this one.
A little slow to start but then hang on after that it takes off and is very well donw.
Suspense around every corner I. LIKEY MUCH
Good book
I loved this book. Archeological theme made this so interesting. I couldn’t put it down. I look forward to reading the next book.
What a story!
Just like of all of Urecelia Teixerira this book will have you laughing, crying, and sitting at the edge of your seat
