The third volume in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic adventure THE LORD OF THE RINGS One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them As the Shadow of Mordor grows across the land, the Companions of the Ring have become involved in separate adventures. Aragorn, revealed as the hidden heir of the ancient Kings of the West, has joined with the Riders … the West, has joined with the Riders of Rohan against the forces of Isengard, and takes part in the desperate victory of the Hornburg. Merry and Pippin, captured by Orcs, escape into Fangorn Forest and there encounter the Ents. Gandalf has miraculously returned and defeated the evil wizard, Saruman. Sam has left his master for dead after a battle with the giant spider, Shelob; but Frodo is still alive–now in the foul hands of the Orcs. And all the while the armies of the Dark Lord are massing as the One Ring draws ever nearer to the Cracks of Doom.
“A triumphant close . . . a grand piece of work, grand in both conception and execution. An astonishing imaginative tour de force.” – Daily Telegraph

Great author and story.I’ve read the series
Start with the Hobbit and then read the three Lord of the Rings books in order. I have read these many times over the years and always find something new.
End of the trilogy, amazing until after Gollum destroys the Ring in Mt. Doom. After that, too elitist as Aragorn is proclaimed king and too simplistic as Frodo comes home to best Saruman. Beat a wizard merely by standing up to him?
“The Scouring of The Shire” is perhaps the most significant portion of the story which simply wouldn’t fit in the movie. (I understand why it was left out. The constraint of form in a motion picture, even in a director’s cut, means that some good things must be left out, in favor of other good things.
Of everything which didn’t fit in the movie, …
I have read the Lord of the Rings trilogy 4 times. J. R.R. Tolkien is the master of world building, language usage, and story telling. It is an emotional read full of love, fear, tears, happiness and angst. A book to get lost in ….I loved it and recommend it to everyone, especially lovers of fantasy!
An adventure in a well created world, with characters who are interesting. Once you start the trail of this group it’s hard to not feel involved. The hero is a hobbit carrying the ring that may save the world or cause it’s downfall.
My favorite book, I have read the trilogy at least three times and this was way before the movies came out.
Tolkien, is, well there are no words for him. You must read his books to enter his domain, but i warn you, you won’t want to leave
Read it more than once.
Lived these books
It’s the Lord of the Rings – what can I say that hasn’t already been said? All that can be said is if you haven’t read the story yet or are just getting into fantasy reading then you are in for one of the best treats you’ll ever have.
Read MANY years ago and just loved it.
Great book. Read multiple times.
If readers don’t know how wonderful anything by Tolkien is, well, never mind.
This final novel in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is best read after the other two. Having arrayed the forces of the epic struggle between good (young, curious, devoted) and evil (ancient, self-absorbed, angry), Tolkien plays out the battle in both military and psychological terms. This is fantasy fiction, so one does not expect realistic details. …
Classic. Read them all!
Excellent finish to the Lord of the Rings. I love this Story and reread it often.
The first and still the best fantasy trilogy.
Outstanding
Great story, very well told.
