From the USA Today and Wall St. Journal bestselling author of Nantucket Neighbors and Nantucket White Christmas. Three sisters. An inherited Nantucket restaurant. One year before they can sell.Mandy, Emma and Jill are as close as three sisters who live hundreds of miles apart can be. They grew up together on Nantucket, but Mandy is the only one that stayed.Jill lives a glamorous life in Manhattan … stayed.
Jill lives a glamorous life in Manhattan as a co-owner of a successful executive search firm. Never married, she is in her mid-thirties and lives in a stunning, corner condo with breathtaking views of the city and Hudson river. Everyone thinks there’s something going on with her partner, Nick, because as a workaholic, she spends more time with him than anyone else. But there’s never been anything but friendship between them and Nick loves being a bachelor in NYC.
Emma lives in Arizona and is an elementary school teacher and aspiring photographer. She met her college professor husband, Peter, in grad school and they’ve been married for over fifteen years. In recent years, she’s noticed that Peter has grown distant. But when he shares a surprising secret, she doesn’t see it coming and her world is turned upside down.
Mandy followed her high school boyfriend, Cory to Boston College, and after graduation, they married and Cory joined a successful hedge fund in Boston, while Mandy stayed home and had two children, Blake and Brooke. They moved home to Nantucket when Cory opened a competing hedge fund. Now that the children are older, Mandy is eager to do more than coordinate local charity events. But Cory doesn’t want her to work. He thinks it doesn’t reflect well on him and appearances are everything to Cory. Though when Mandy finds a second cell phone in his gym bag, she begins to question what is really going on.
When their beloved grandmother, Ethel Ferguson passes peacefully in her sleep a week before her ninety-ninth birthday, she leaves them quite a surprise. In addition to her Nantucket home, they learn that she was the silent owner of Mimi’s Place, one of Nantucket’s most popular year-round restaurants.
There is of course, a catch–she left the restaurant equally to Mandy, Emma, and Jill–and also to Paul, the restaurant chef for the past fifteen years.
And before they can sell, all three girls must work at the restaurant for one year–or their shares of the restaurant will go to Paul.
The same Paul that broke one of their hearts many years ago.

I was a bit wary about the story line because some authors will contort the characters and story to fit the premise of the book. Not so in this book. Three sisters are left a popular, but somewhat dated restaurant on Nantucket by their grandmother. They were genuinely surprised since they didn’t realize that she owned it. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters who seemed like real individuals. I thought dialog flowed well. I also liked the back story that the women’s grandmother won a restaurant many years ago in a card game. The history comes out through a found diary, written by Gram many years before.
Each sister has a busy life already, but work together to meet the terms of the will. The author enjoys food and cooking and that comes through in the book.
This is the first book by this author that I’ve read. I’m looking forward to reading more. I listened to the audio version of the book and I found the narration to be very well done.
the Restaurant by Pamela Kelly was a delightful, entertaining, easy to read book about three sisters who inherit their grandmother’s restaurant In Nantucket on the condition they work together at the restaurant for one year. I loved this book and was drawn in from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to see how it ended. The author did a great job writing this book and the characters she developed were likable and relatable. I stayed up almost all night reading it and rated it a five.
If you love books about sister then this is the book for you! Mandy, Emma, and Jill all live hundreds of miles apart and are as different as can be. They come together after their grandmother passes away only to learn that they have inherited her home on Nantucket and the popular restaurant that she owned. When they find out the terms of inheriting the house and restaurant it causes quite a stir. I loved all the characters. They are described in detail and the Nantucket setting is beautiful. This is a wonderfully written story of the love and bonds of sisters. I highly recommend it!
I loved this book so much! Too many books show sister dynamics as hair pulling and nightmarish. I have three daughters, and I had a grandmother who loved to meddle. I thought it was delightful and an easy read. Especially right now, that’s a nice thing to sink into.
It was great to return to Nantucket from a little different view than The Nantucket Inn at Plum Cove. I loved that whole series and am waiting for the next in it, but it was interesting to see the Island from a different place. I thought that was a great idea by author, Pamela Kelley! It is a quick read with realistic characters with their own issues, good and bad, happy and sad. Nothing too deep and depressing like so many books and just what I needed to mix it up!! And…. I LOVE all the food references!!
The Restaurant hooked me at the start. I went on an emotional journey with three sisters, all at crossroads in their lives. The death of their grandmother brings them together. They learn they have a chance of inheriting a restaurant that they never knew their grandmother owned. Plenty of intrigue, which is always a plus for me.
I have to gush, you can not go wrong with a Pamela Kelley book!! I just love her writing and her Nantucket books are just so good that I want to move there! This one is no exception, you will find that you will be hungry reading this book. The restaurant is Mimi’s, the food sounds so delicious. It reminds me of my one year of working part time as a cook at a restaurant, I loved it. Get this book and sit down some place comfy, you will not want to get up until you finish! I wish I could give it more then 5 stars!
The Restaurant was a very quick read. Three sisters inherit a restaurant upon their grandmother’s death — and it comes with a stipulation. They must work at the restaurant for a year or forfeit it to the fourth owner — the chef who is the former boyfriend of one of the sisters. The sisters never knew their grandmother owned a restaurant so this was a surprise. With some romance thrown in, it’s a fun read.
Three sisters inherit a Nantucket restaurant they did not even know their grandmother owned. For all three sisters, inheriting a restaurant seemed to be what they needed to reconnect as sisters and evaluate their individual lives. The book detailed the relationship issues of all three and how having to manage the restaurant together, allowed them time to figure out what to do with their lives and help each other. The descriptions of the food were detailed as would be expected in a book called The Restaurant. I am not an adventurous eater, but a lot of the dishes sounded amazing, and I don’t like seafood. I felt the heartache of two of the sisters and joy for all three at the end as they ventured on new paths. I received an audiobook from the author to see if I liked audiobooks as I had never tried one before. I found I do not care for audiobooks, but I did like the story.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Repost of my original review at Amazon.com.
This is the first book I have read by Pamela Kelley and won’t be the last one. Its a feel good story about three sisters living in different states. Their grandmother leaves a portion of her restaurant to each sister along with the head Chef Paul in her will. The description of beautiful Nantucket where the restaurant is along with food descriptions makes one hungry and longing for more. The characterization has been done very well too. I for once didn’t want to put the book down. Everyone who is looking for a light fun read must pick up this book. Thanks Pamela Kelley for your giveaway which I truly enjoyed.
I’d never read anything by this author but I won a copy through a Goodreads giveaway so I gave it a go. I was not disappointed. I understand through reading other reviews that some characters from other books are also in this one but having not read any of the others I can safely say this book is fine as a standalone. I didn’t feel like I was missing something that would have come from the other books.
I thought with the premise that three sisters had to work together for a year to inherit a restaurant there would be lots of drama and in-fighting between the siblings but it was just the opposite. I like that the sisters actually like each other and support each other through some difficult times. When I finished the book I was left with a smile on my face and a warm feeling inside. If that’s not the sign of a good book then I don’t know what is!
A good beach read with three sisters who get along with each other who are experiencing what they each feel is a life that is good, with perhaps a few rough patches. But then their grandmothers will throws them into a real life changing experience. Enjoy this wonderful book with delightful sounding culinary menus and food. The only thing this book needed was recipes!
I enjoyed this lovely story set in Nantucket which is one of my fav destinations for summer reads . The characters were sweet and realistic , three sisters each with her own story entwined with the late grandmothers story. The scenes and food are intriguing , the story is easy to follow as each sister goes through a life change and forging new paths when they inherit the Restaurant .
This is an easy read about three sisters who inherit their ninety-nine-year-old grandmother’s home and restaurant on Nantucket, with the stipulation that they live together on the island for a year while running “Mimi’s Place” along with the chef. Each sister has her own life, and while they aren’t close to each other, they are still friends. The book doesn’t contain any sisterly drama, which is a relief. There is a lot of delicious food description, so you won’t want to read this book on an empty stomach. Thanks to the Goodreads Giveaway program and author Pamela Kelley for an advance reader’s copy. All comments and opinions are my own.
Unexpected twists for 3 sisters and end with finding love!!! Great.
I just finished reading The Restaurant and thought it was wonderful. The characters all faced their challenges issues in a very realistic way, the way I believe my family or friends would. The restaurant itself was a character and oh, the food! I may have had to get Italian take-out while I was reading. Great read!
Wow! This is such a great book!
