Death never simply settles for the life it claims. It’s greedy. It stole all of our lives that night and while it put my husband in the ground, it left my four children and me behind. After an ugly year of grief, something had to change. My sister suggested open spaces, big skies and fresh air in the heart of Wyoming. We settled into our shared estate the best we could until I met my new neighbor. we could until I met my new neighbor.
Arrogant, bossy and rude; Reid was easily the worst person I’d ever met. I’d decided to write him off entirely until I realized he was the only local horse instructor.I’d heard that if I could get my kids onto a horse, they’d start to heal. Desperation had me creating an alliance with him.
Envy had me craving the connection he had with them.
Distracted by the newness of our situation, I missed how close his demons danced to my ghosts. While I was ignorantly letting him take my heart, it was too late to realize . . .He’d already stolen it once before.
This is a standalone romance novel.

I finished this book about 2 days ago but was unable to sit here with a clear mind to write a review that would do it justice. I myself am going through a lose and the one year anniversary of my 33day old grand daughters Heavenly journey is November 1st. So I could relate 100% with Layla and what her kids were having to deal with. But as I read on and saw where Reid was going to fit into the picture and what a lovely and gorgeous man it just made my heart feel so happy. This is one of those stories that even with it hitting so close to home I would like to get my hands on a signed physical cop. This was a new to me author and I will most surely be watching out for more of her work.
This was a highly emotional read. I was so down with the beginning. Reid was so patient and I admire him. Layla was wishy washy but I understand. This book had the cutest kids. All the kids stood out except Stephen. I did enjoy the journey.
This was a brilliant story. The heartbreak and healing was beautifully written. This book showed don’t be scared to move on.
I loved Reid and Layla together, even though went through so much to be together that it was beautiful.
I loved the patience Reid had with Layla. And I also loved how he cared for the kids.
I highly recommend this book.
This book really pulled at the heartstrings. I got totally lost in the storyline. It was beautifully written. I felt so much for these characters. I was hoping and praying for a HEA. Both have been so much in their lives.
Now I don’t want to give too much away. You’ll have to read and experience for yourself.
Layla and Reid two broken people, two separate lives, both headed in the same direction. Their lives are about to change and they can’t stop it, but with four kids involved and a whole lot of hiddens things heading their way will they be able to see past it all.or will it ruin what they have?
Truly an amazing read with all the feels ,emotions, and you will feel it all. The pain, the despair, hurt, loss and everything else. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
This book wasn’t for me. I found it hard to get into the story or even the characters. It maybe for someone else but for me it just was hard to read and I had to stop after the first three chapters.
This was a very emotional and sweet second chance romance. I absolutely loved Reid and Layla’s story. Layla has lost her husband to a tragic accident. Reid has his own demons haunting him. Can they get past all that haunts them to be together? This book puts you on an emotional roller coaster ride. It has all the feels, heartbreak, tragedy, compassion, hope and soul deep love. It’s such a heartfelt book, that has you enthralled to the end. We do get a sweet HEA. I am looking forward to more from this author.
I liked this book and it was well written. The characters had great chemistry and the story flowed from page to page. I really enjoyed the location of the story.
This book was absolutely amazing .! ! Reid and Laylas stoty is aweosme i so loved it !!
A must read with all the feels! I loved the flow of the storyline, it builds up the characters as their story is unfold. Reid and Layla were likable characters that you can’t help but want a HEA. You can feel the pain, sorrow and healing that the author is able to bring with the wonderful written story. My first read by the author and it does not disappoint. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
I read this book in one sitting while I was at work and supposed to be working. I loved every word of it. I had tears in my eyes at several parts of this book. I loved that you felt like you were right there with them feeling all the emotions that they were feeling. Reid and Layla were so good and written so beautifully. The kids were great. They added so much to this story and it was wonderful. Reid and Layla were looking for the second chance that they deserved. They were able to find it with each other and they had some bumps in their path to happiness but love was more powerful. This story was powerful. I highly recommend this book and I think that you should have some tissues ready because you will need them.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Two broken souls, correction six broken hearts who need healing. This book is more than just a love story. It’s about a family who lost a father and husband and a man who lost everything. These six struggling people need each other more than they realize. When they eventually meet and connect through each of their own individual ways it’s a very touching story.
Layla moves with her four children to Wyoming after her husband passes away. Partly to be closer to her sister, but also to move away from the memories that haunted her and her children on a daily basis. What she didn’t know when she moved into her current home is how closely it connected to her neighbors home, but also how intricate he would be in mending her and her children’s lives.
Reid is a horse instructor, one that his new neighbor and her four kids obviously need. It doesn’t take long for Layla to realize she needs help, but initially it’s only to spend time with her children teaching them about horse care and how to ride, but as time goes along what he desires is more time with her. She is someone he has no right to want, but he is drawn to her like he hasn’t been drawn to anyone in a very long time. Given his past, he should stay away, but he loves her kids and it doesn’t take long until he comes to care their mother too.
This book isn’t your typical fluffy fairytale romance. It’s real and emotional with lots of ups and downs. There are moments that made me want to scream at Layla for not having those fluffy in your hearts eyes feelings. She is guilt ridden for feeling anything for someone else beyond her dead husband when I felt she should be falling head over heels for the sexy man sitting right next to her and yet in reality this is a very real situation. Layla had four living proofs of her dead husband looking at her, counting on her, and reminding her everyday that he was gone. I honestly couldn’t imagine what that is like, but Ashley does a great job writing about it.
On the flip side Reid is patient and kind and one of those men you fall very easily for. He is so patient waiting for Layla that at times you forgot about him and his backstory. What was so bad that had him hiding back in Wyoming? What is his secret? All I’m going to say is, I did not see it coming.
A beautifully poignant story full of love, loss, hope and forgiveness.
I was nearly in tears in the beginning and the feels didn’t let up throughout the book.
A stunning read that will captivate you from page 1.
This emotional second chance romance should be the best one of 2019.
I received this arc in exchange for my honest review.
“Sometimes life can beat your heart in such way that it can tear you apart. But then there appears an angel without wings, with such a big heart, with so much desire to love, that it brings them all together with all the good things it offers.”
I’m glad I gave this book a chance. Honestly, I didn’t want it to end. It is a story full of many feelings, but it will surely steal your heart. And I think Reid will occupy the most space in it. A new book boyfriend for your list.
Layla Jacobson is mother of four child, a widow, conservative and in her mid-thirties. The death of her husband Travis was a serious blow in everyone’s life. His departure left a bitter taste and although a year has passed, she has not been able to release the pain of her loss. Together with her children, she decides to find the best way to start healing and continue with their lives in a new place. One where hope will be born, new friends and a neighbor who will give you much more than a friendship.
Jameson Reid Harrison, returned to his village with a broken heart but willing to start over. His new job as an equine therapy assistant will open a door to a second chance at love. He is gentle, so willing and understanding that it will be difficult not to love him.
This story about second chances, forgiveness, determination and healing will keep you on the verge of tears. It is beautiful and the plot is excellent. Impossible not to love it. What are you waiting to read it?
***Highly recommended.***
The Rest of Me is a great example of a beautiful second chance at love story.
Layla Carter meets Reid Harrison when he accepts the job of teaching three of her children how to ride a horse. Both of these characters are really easy to like and feel empathy towards. The children, Star and Kip as well as Michelle are wonderful characters and I would really enjoy reading their stories as I think they’d have interesting ones to tell too. I have to admit, I want to go to Wyoming now, the descriptions are so enticing.
My heart filled with the emotional turmoil that fills this book and I found it filled with compassion for each character. There are some traumatic scenes that see you on the edge of your seat but also some truly inspiring ones that lift your heart as well.
I enjoyed taking this journey with Layla and Reid and recommend it to everyone who enjoys second chance romance stories.
OH WOW!! What an AMAZING book!!! Ashley Munoz did a fantastic job of writing such a touching story.
Layla is a mother of four and is broken after the tragic death of her husband. Reid is a broken man with a secret.
Layla decides it’s best for her and the kids to get a fresh start. They end up with Reid as their neighbor. Neither are looking for love but when it happens you can’t stop it. Reid is such a wonderful and patient man. I was so touched by the relationship he had with the kids. This is the kind of man every woman would want in their children’s lives.
I was broken hearted when I started this book. My heart was gradually put back together. I felt such heartache and sadness, I giggled at times, and felt joy and happiness for these characters. The book is wonderfully written and the characters will win over your heart!! All I can say is Incredible job Ashley and everyone HAS to read this book!!!
5 Stars
I generally stay away from romance in the “western” genre because it’s not my cup of tea, but this book is so much more than that! Layla and Reid’s story is full of the healing power of love and forgiveness, and you need it in your life.
Layla is broken, and rightfully so, after losing her husband. Her pain is so raw and real that you cry with her through her heartbreak.
Reid is existing, punishing himself for something he finds unforgivable but, through it all, he’ll capture your heart. He’s so patient, kind, understanding, and deserving of everything he believes he isn’t.
This second chance love story is exactly the kind of second chance that I love. Broken roads that are blessed; happiness despite the pain and sorrow. This one has all the feels and you’ll find yourself frantically turning pages begging for more.
This was a sweet and hopeful story, Miss Munoz was a new author to me, but the story was well written and the characters were amazing!
An absolutely amazing and beautiful must-read
From the moment Layla’s alarm clock signalled the start of the book, my heart was shrouded with a heavy grief shared with this young woman and her four children on the one year anniversary of the loss of her husband, Travis. It never ceases to amaze me at the sheer talent that Ashley Munoz has for writing, in that she had me crying only three pages in.
Grief doesn’t stop and life suddenly move on at a 1 year anniversary, and although Layla was doing her best to move forward and be happier for her children, I was heart broken for her that at the first chance of time alone, she felt the need to remember and still grieve for Travis, to schedule her time for herself, to watch videos of her dead husband, talk out loud to him, drink wine, and again, to just grieve.
Reid was such a lovely and gorgeous man. He’s back in his hometown, and talks about not being happy in a long time, and even gets the wrong idea about the laughter he hears from Layla and her kids. He doesn’t know it’s a small window of happiness amidst the grief that has weighed them down for the last year. This beautiful man is everything that they didn’t know they needed.
As I read through the book, ignoring everything else at home, every other task that I should be doing, it began to dawn on me just what Ms Munoz might mean in that last line of the blurb. I hoped it wasn’t true, but…..
I was broken. That moment broke me. Forgiveness, love and resolution……
Even through the tears, there were moments where I choked in laughter. This is a book with all the feels, and I absolutely loved every word that Ashley Munoz had written. 5 Stars and a recommendation that you have to read it!
Prepare to suffer all the feels as you read this beautiful and powerful romance. This book has a very powerful, heartbreaking storyline. Loss, grief, drama, angst, deep emotions, hope and love all play their part as Reid and Layla’s story unfolds and their relationship evolves. I love these characters, the chemistry they shared and the sharp overall feeling of genuiness of everything involved. I am freely posting a frank review.
