Beautiful story! “It gives us a glimpse of how the Lord works behind-the-scenes in Rosalind and Trent’s behalf, directing their paths. In many ways, our Lord does the same for us, even when we can’t see Him move or act when we pray.”
“The way to have faith is to step out, forgetting about your fears and doubts, and to trust God that whatever happens, He will be there.”
“The way to have faith is to step out, forgetting about your fears and doubts, and to trust God that whatever happens, He will be there.”
Such a soul-searching, emotional, faith-laden historical romance from Tanya Eavenson! The setting is in the late 1880s between Boston and Graham, Texas as Rosalind finds herself trapped in a sacrifice for her family and Trenton feels helpless to free her from this trap. The two grew up together in Boston and fell in love but Trenton’s family moves to Texas to build a ranch and Rosalind’s world falls apart as her mother dies and her father loses their wealth. Trenton and his family return to Boston two years later to pay their condolences for Rosalind’s family’s loss and their shared love pushes them together even as her detested betrothal to an evil man pulls them apart. Rosalind is sweet, compassionate, loyal, and vibrant but loses her spunk when she literally becomes the sacrificial lamb for her father’s past mistakes. Trenton is a tender, patient, loving, protective hero who’d do anything for her love. Even as they work through the tangled web and danger they find themselves in, their trust in God grows and the unshakable fear that grips them both starts to loosen.
The story is well-written and the plot moves at a good pace. Even though it isn’t a suspense novel, there are quite a few twists and turns thrown into the plot to keep you wondering what will happen next. If you enjoy historical romance, you will thoroughly enjoy this book. I can’t wait for the second book in the series where we’ll get to know Blake, Trenton’s cowhand and friend but also the town’s sheriff, better.
I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.
This was the 1st book that I read from Tanya and I LOVED it. It was such a page turner that I didn’t want to put the book…well Kindle down. 🙂
I highly recommend Tanya and her books.
I won this book and I was not expected to leave a positive review, all opinions are my own.
The Rescue by Tanya Eavenson is a must read – whether you are a historical fan or not. I only put the book down once and read it in two days. You can take my word for it – you won’t be disappointed.
Rosalind Standford lives under the shadow of threats from the evil man who must have her at all costs. He’s determined as he holds her family captive given the irresponsible actions of her father. Escaping the man’s control seems doubtful.
Trent Easton has loved Rosalind since childhood but a future together is uncertain because of the intimidation of the man’s control.
A fast-paced novel that will keep you turning the pages also brings a lovely message of faith and forgiveness. This story deserves five stars.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author but I will definitely be checking out her other books after reading this story that was beautifully woven with faith, tribulations and suspense! The characters are relatable and the lessons learned threw their trails resonated in my heart! I recommend this book and you really don’t want to miss out on this amazing story! I was given a copy from Justread for an honest and unbiased opinion.
Author Tanya Eavenson is a new-to-me author, and now that I’ve been introduced to her writing, The Rescue, the first in the All Roads Lead to Texas series, has become a new favorite. With well-written storylines and great character development, readers are sure to enjoy The Rescue. I know I did.
Following the devastating death of her beloved mother, Rosalind Standford finds herself in a terrible predicament. Her father, unbeknownst to anyone, was deeply in debt to a local banker, for gambling losses he could not repay. When the banker threatens Rose’s father with ruination, beatings and death, he succumbs to the threats to give the banker what he wants, Rosalind. With their lives endangered, Rose is forced to agree to the betrothal.
Trent Easton, with his parents, returns to Boston for a visit only to discover his childhood best friend is no longer the vibrant young woman he once knew. Eager to spend time with Rose, catch up and to find out why she never replied to his marriage proposal. Trent is taken aback to discover her engaged to a man old enough to be her father, a man she seems to fear. Despite Rose’s refusal to share what is truly going on, Trent determines to learn what it is that she fears. What he learns sets him on a desperate course to save Rosalind, and her father, from the clutches of an evil man.
With his parents assistance, Trent sets about rescuing Rosalind. Sending her off by train, the newly married Rosalind Easton, travels to Trent’s Texas ranch. Only four people know where she is bound, will they be able to protect her from the ruthless banker who is determined to have her at all costs?

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
Rosalind and Trent are longtime friends in love and want to get married one day. But circumstances changes everything when Rosalind’s mom falls ill and passes away. With no one to care for her except her father, her future is in a dangerous situation because of poor choices her father has made. What will happen to poor Rosalind?
I really understand why Rosalind questions God in her situation. She loves Trent, and he would be good to her, so why is she having to marry a man she doesn’t love, someone who threatens her? She has no place to go, no one to turn to. I really enjoyed this story, though stories where Fathers make poor choices in marrying off their daughters really get under my skin. Rosalind’s dad sure didn’t care about her happiness!
I feel the characters all support one another, and play their parts well. And as heartbreaking as the story gets, I love and appreciate how Ms Evavenson weaves everything together and shows grace and forgiveness through our Lord in this story. This is a great book for those wanting a good clean Christian read.

I’ll admit it… I’m not always an historical romance fan. It is hard for me to find historical books that keep my attention unless written with action, adventure and mystery. The Rescue by Tonya Eavenson met all those expectations and more. The book opens with Rosalind Standford at age 16, realizing her best friend and crush is moving from Boston to Texas. On the same night her mother becomes extremely sick and her father gives his blessing of betrothal to the awful Glover, who is her own father’s age. As time passes, she continues to pray that she will not have to marry him. Then the man that she has loved, Trenton Easton returns with his family from Texas. Glover becomes more and more angry as the Easton’s stayed longer than anticipated. As he becomes more violent, she believes there’s no escape and that she will be forced to marry him. As the story unfolds, Rosalind believes no one will rescue her and that God is not listening to her prayers. However Trenton feels something is amiss, as does his parents. As they try to figure out ways to protect her, the danger seems to be following her. I loved the characters in this book. I loved the romance between Rosalind and Trenton, especially his heart for her. I loved her kindness and putting others first while yearning for a better life. The story is filled with a thread of forgiveness as well as finding God as our rescuer and seeing his work through others. Sometimes it is hard for us to see the ways He is working in our lives. Then as we look back we can see Him and the ways He has been showing His love and guarding us. That is Rosalind’s story. All the ways God was leading up to rescuing her. I don’t want to share too much as I don’t want to ruin the story for you, but I thought it was perfect.

A woman under her father’s thumb is betrothed to a horrible man her father’s age. When her one true love returns she has to deny his advances to get her father out of debt. But love will overcome in this great story.
A beautiful story of loss, forgiveness, faith, prayers, redemption and second chance.
Rosalind, a beautiful character had to learn through series of tragedies that God is the same no matter what she was going through. She was faced with a lot of challenges which left her thinking God doesn’t love her and he doesn’t answer her prayers, but the scriptures that says ” No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it”(1 Corth. 10:13) was fulfilled in her life. She had to learn to trust God and believe he was working behind the scenes for her even when it seem like evil was going to prevail.
Trenton(lovely name I must say) was plagued with unrequited love but with prayers he became part of God plan to rescue Rose. One of the endaring facts about him was the fact that he always prayed for directions and wisdom from God and was ready to wait and do the right thing at the right time. Even when faced with danger he was ready to protect the ones he loved with his life. I loved reading about his compassionate heart.
I love reading about the love between Trent and Rose, how they waited to do the right thing between God and each other. Trent’s patience was commendable. I could so well relate with Rose’s fears. But when she learnt to give over her fears to God she was able to live freely. I could so well relate with her living fear and the freedom that came from trusting God.
The author’s writing style was simple and easy to follow. Characters were awesome(the good characters though). The story was very unpredictable and that was so refreshing to read. The twist and turns of the book will keep you reading to the last page.
I received a copy of the book and this is my honest opinion.
My Thoughts on The Rescue:
So good. I loved this one. It reads quickly and the characters are very compelling. I had to know what would happen next and how it would end up. Definitely one of those books that I can’t put down and will stay up way too late to read. Which might have happened. But I’m not sorry, just in need of about a pot of coffee and bribery to get my children to take naps today.
The author has a great writing style that just captures you and weaves the story into your being so you’re a part of it and invested in the outcome. I’m not sure how they do it but it’s masterful and makes me want to binge read all of her books. Also looking forward to the books to come in this series.
I felt such compassion for the main character. Who wants to be forced to marry an old guy who’s a creep? Not me! Loved the mystery and suspense plus the romance. Always into a good Christian romance book.
Highly recommend this read and can’t wait to hear what everyone else thinks of it!

Promised by her father to marry a much older and in my opinion truly evil man who held an unpayable debt over her father’s head, Rosalind Standford had no hope for her life. The man she has loved her entire life has returned to Boston but Rosalind must keep her circumstances secret from him at all costs and pretend she no longer cares for him.
The Rescue held my attention from its beginning until the end. Trent Easton was a true hero in every sense and quickly caught on to the danger that threatened Rosalind. Like a true hero he made every effort to remove her from harm and into the protection of his family ranch. I had absolutely no respect for Rosalind’s father who sacrificed his daughter’s safety and happiness to pay for his own mistakes and greed.
A riveting romantic suspense with a historical setting that spans from Boston to Texas, The Rescue is filled with plenty of action, danger, and a few unexpected twists. Characters must depend on the Lord to see them through threats on their lives and to help them forgive Rosalind’s father before they can find their own happily-ever-after.
I enjoyed reading this novel and hope to read more by this author in the future.

With settings in Boston, Texas, and the train ride in between, a vile villain, a friends-to-more second chance romance, and a darling little girl, Tanya Eavenson makes a big splash with the All Roads Lead to Texas series debut.
There’s a little something for every reader in this historical read: romance, danger, suspense, cowboys, and a happy ending. But what really stood out for me in this book was the theme that even when God doesn’t answer our prayers or we feel completely alone in the world, God is there. Nothing surprises him and, even when we go off on our own despite his promptings for something else, he can redirect our paths to forgiveness, peace, and joy.
Here’s hoping we get to catch up with Rosalind, Trent, Lilly, and the others in the next book. The peek into the Proposal definitely has me ready for Blake to meet his match (in more ways than one).

What a beautiful read that wonderfully showcases God’s everlasting love!
Tanya Eavenson is one of my favorite authors and to say I was excited for her new book is an understatement. It did not disappoint and is, in fact, a new favorite.
I loved everything about it. I was fully consumed from page one and as I got further and further into the story, it became increasingly more difficult to put it down. I found myself losing all track of time. There was a good deal of suspense that had my anxiety high and hoping for a happy ending.
So realistic were these characters that they seemed to jump right off the page. I was so rooting for them, well except for the vile Mr. Richards. What a fiend he was!
I had a great time reading The Rescue and highly recommend it to fans of historical romance. I can’t wait for book two!
I received a copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
What a wonderful start to a new series! The story is as beautiful as the cover! This book has drama, suspense and romance and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. You can feel God’s love and care in this story. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
The Rescue was a great introduction to what looks to be a compelling series. I so enjoyed this heartfelt story! Rosalind and Trent were such likable characters and my heart ached for the pain that Rosalind was suffering, both emotional and physical.
The Rescue was aptly titled! I loved the way Trent rescued Rosalind and it was interesting to watch as it took Rosalind quite a long time to realize that God was rescuing her all along, as well, even when she didn’t realize it.
There was so much heart to this story. I enjoyed all of it, but especially the part of the book that took place after Trent and Rosalind were married. There was a lot of growth and healing on Rosalind’s part that took place from that moment of the story onward. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
The Rescue is appropriately titled with the phenomenal story within its pages. This initial book in Tanya Eavenson new series, All Roads Lead to Texas, drew me into the lives of the characters with all the action, travel, mystery, romance, faith, descriptive flow of words and setting from Boston to Texas.
Rosalind Standford suffered greatly when her long time friend Trenton Easton left Boston with his family for Texas. She felt her life crumble even more without her mother and the behavior of her father. The Easton’s return to Boston to express their sympathy for Mrs. Standford’s passing brought answers as well as more threats to various characters. The hero and heroine faced many challenges, pain, heartache and threats by the villain Glover Richards who was so devious. Will the rescue plan set in place by the Easton’s be fulfilled for safety or will mishap bring more danger to Rosalind and the Easton family?
There’s a beautiful message of God’s never failing love, forgiving others and always being there when His name is called out that brought hope to the characters. Six year old Lilly had a special place in this story and how she impacted lives. I’m so glad this is the first book in a series and not a standalone novel by Eavenson.
I received a complimentary e-book from the author. I was under no obligation to post a review but have expressed my own sincere thoughts.
Oh, what a way to kick off the new All Roads Lead To Texas series. After finishing The Rescue, I cannot wait to read even more!
To be honest, this wasn’t one that captured me from the start. In fact, it took me a bit to get into it at the beginning. There was a time jump between the first few chapters and I think for me that threw me off and I had to get that timeline straight before I could really appreciate the story more. I see why it was written in this way— we needed to have that history between Trent and Rosalind for the story to work… again, it just gave me pause for a bit. Once I got over that initial adjustment, I couldn’t put this book down. It was one that I had to force myself to put away as my eyes failed to stay open. The suspense wasn’t always high packed action, but it was always there even in the calm moments, making me as a reader wonder what was going to happen next. There were twists and turns throughout that held me in the story.
This story deals with some hard topics like abuse and betrayal, loss and mourning. Still, more than anything it is a story of God’s love and grace, and a story of forgiveness. I love how the author beautifully weaved the scripture and messages of faith into this touching romance. I really found that I loved getting to know these characters… while I was anxious to see how the story ended, I also found myself wanting to continue to watch their story. I hope that the future books in the series will allow those glimpses too.
If you are a fan of historical romance, this is one that I would certainly recommend. It was a great read, and I cannot wait for the next in the series!
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.
At first, I didn’t think I would like The Rescue by Tanya Eavenson. Near the beginning, the characters’ conversations sometimes felt unnatural and I wished certain scenes had been fleshed out more. I wanted to linger in the moment to read more about what the characters were thinking and feeling, but it moved on quickly.
However… it turned out that I loved reading The Rescue by Tanya Eavenson! There’s danger, romance, and a good storyline. With ease, the novel held my attention. While I found the villain’s actions to be predictable, danger lurked constantly and the plot’s suspense built up to the end. I enjoyed the swoony romantic tension between Trent and Rosalind as well as watching their relationship deepen as circumstances changed. Rosalind’s desperate situation advanced her character development as she learned God’s truths. I felt like the theme about forgiveness played out too quickly to feel legit. However, I did appreciate the author including such a theme.
I recommend The Rescue by Tanya Eavenson to fans of historical romance who also enjoy suspense. In spite of its flaws, it’s the kind of book I would read again.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this ebook by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
This was one of those times I did not want to see “The End” – the story was that good. From the get-go, I furiously turned the pages to see what came next. It kept me reading most of the day, only stopping when something else needed my attention, and late into the night until sleep made me stop to put the book down! Rosalind and Trent’s story is suspenseful, romantic and full of wonderful (and some evil) characters. The author weaves hope in God, and His love and care for us, seamlessly into the story. I have read all of Ms. Eavenson’s books and count them among my favorites. This one just made it to the top of my list. I was sad to see the story end but glad to learn it is the start of a series (there is even a sneak-peek of the next story at the end of the book). I am eagerly anticipating the rest of the series!
