An Amazon Charts and Washington Post bestseller.
For fans of Tom Clancy and Lee Child, a heart-pumping thriller of betrayal, revenge, and conspiracy by USA Today bestselling author Steven Konkoly.
Former CIA operative turned mercenary for hire Ryan Decker’s specialty is rescuing kidnap victims. Hired by an influential US senator to liberate her daughter from a human-trafficking ring, Decker … daughter from a human-trafficking ring, Decker never anticipated sabotage or that the assault could go so disastrously wrong. The hostage is dead. His team is wiped out, and so are their families, including Decker’s own wife and son—eliminated one by one by the Russian mafia. And he’s survived to take the fall.
When he’s inexplicably freed soon into a ten-year sentence in federal prison, Decker suspects another setup. And private investigator Harlow Mackenzie knows he’s right. She has evidence that a power greater than the Russian mob was behind the raid that ruined Decker’s life.
The next move in a nationwide cat-and-mouse game of high-level sedition is up to them. Fueled by revenge and an obsession to clear his name, Decker has only one mission: to destroy a growing conspiracy before it’s too late.

The Rescue immediately drops the reader into a well-drawn world of betrayal, revenge, and redemption. Ryan Decker is a flawed, relatable hero, unstoppable in his quest for justice.
Steven Konkoly’s new Ryan Decker series is a triumph—an action-thriller master class in spy craft, tension, and suspense. An absolute must-read for fans of Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, and Brad Thor.
I read an advanced copy of this book courtesy of Thomas and Mercer via NetGalley. If you enjoy political thrillers with a touch of military and law enforcement, then when this book releases to the public, you are going to want to grab it up. You’ll want to find out why Ryan Decker, a good man trying to do the right thing, is caught up in situations beyond his control.
The Rescue by Steven Konkoly has everything I love in a thriller—betrayal, murder, a badass investigator, and a man fueled by revenge.
Fans of Mark Greaney and Brad Taylor, take notice: The Rescue has kicked off a stunning new series that deserves a place on your reading list. Ryan Decker is a must-read character.
Breakneck twists, political conspiracy, bristling action—The Rescue has it all! Steven Konkoly has created a dynamic and powerful character in Ryan Decker.
Justice at Last
For Mature Readers
No sex
Violence
Strong language, but far less than many books in this genre
Plot no spoilers:
Ryan Decker is suddenly released from prison much to his surprise. Two years ago he’d been set up to take the fall after a rescue mission failed in the very worst way.
Thinking himself alone and vulnerable, he quickly finds himself with not only friends but also a chance to clear his name, not to mention putting heartless mercenaries and human traffickers out of business.
Though well conceived, Decker’s escape from the villains constitutes the first half of the book. The action gets better and better as he and his new team set about exposing the truly evil and despicable villains.
If you enjoy action along with intricate webs of conspiracies to be dismantled, you’ll enjoy this one.
Fast-paced and a great read! Recommend!
cliche
Thom Rivera does and outstanding job of narrating this exceptional thriller by Steven Konkoly. From the opening page to the end there are so many twists and adrenaline producing suspenseful scenes that putting this novel down is almost impossible. The characters are each uniquely quirky and intense. Trust is such a tenuous thread and it is truly stretched and tested with the characters in this novel
This is the first book I read from this author and I can’t wait for the second book of the series. The story kept me intrigued but still wanting more.
Kept me reading!
very entertaining. A good read
An excellent source for your daily dose of action, conspiracy, and intrigue.
From the very first page, The Rescue comes at you like the literary equivalent of a laser-guided missile. Impossible to put down, with explosive action, a great hero, and political intrigue. This one will grab you.
If you are a fan of characters like Scot Harvath and Mitch Rapp, this new series is a must-read. Steven Konkoly delivers a refreshingly unique blend of action, espionage, and well-researched realism.
The Rescue by Steven Konkoly is an international spy thriller packed with suspense, conspiracies, and danger. This isn’t a throwback to some Forsyth thriller though. This is about anger, revenge, and betrayal. It’s a gritty tale of a weaponized virus being sold to the highest bidder. You need to read this dark, twisted espionage thriller.
Here’s proof that Steven en Konkowly can enthrall a reader without a global apocalypse (like those for which the author is known and loved).

First, I would like to thank Amazon First Reads for the opportunity to read a free Kindle version of this book.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much positive to say in regards to The Rescue. The fact that it took me over two weeks to read a 390-page book is an indication of how unsatisfying this read was. The first few chapters are action-packed, but once we hit chapter 15, the story becomes dull and all action completely stops until the very end (there are 65 chapters in total).
The premise of the book is unbelievable: we are expected to accept that a senator would destroy the life of the man who led the mission to rescue her daughter simply because his mission failed, and we are expected to accept that the legal system would lock him away for 10 years for not saving her in time. We are expected to accept that all of his comrades in World Recovery Group and their families were brutally slaughtered after trial and that no one did anything about it or realized that perhaps Ryan Decker was not to blame after all. We are also supposed to see Ryan Decker as a badass, but it seems to me that the real badasses are Harlow and her team and Ryan Decker is just along for the ride. (A spin-off series about Harlow and her team is something I would definitely read, by the way.)
It’s not a bad story, it’s just nothing new in the action genre. A brief explanation of how exactly the legal system found Ryan Decker guilty of…well, whatever charges he was supposedly guilty of, as the charges are not named either, come to think of it…would have set this story up for success. This gaping hole in the plot gnawed at me the entire duration of the book and it was difficult for me to take the rest of it seriously.
Characters popped up with no explanation about who they are. Poor story line. Just not up to the author’s usual excellent work.
