Amazing! I couldn’t but it down! And the writing was captivating. Can’t wait to read more works by the author!
I LOVED this book! I was so invested in the characters.
I enjoyed reading this! As a writer, it was especially nice that Viv was a bookworm and book blogger.
It was such a cute book. I enjoyed it very much
I loved how sweet this book was.
Vivian was my soul sister, I swear! We are like Kindred Spirits, her love of books and her passion for helping others… I could completely relate! I loved her quirky, unique self. I just loved the witty banter between her and Dallas.
Dallas was the perfect “McNerd”! I was completely smitten with him from the beginning of the book to the end!
I enjoyed this sweet, innocent, romantic book. It had a few twists and turns in there that I never expected, which made me love the book even more.
The only downfall to this book (which is more on me than the book I would say) is the fact that I haven’t watched any Star Trek and I think there were a few parts that were supposed to be funny that I didn’t understand the references but it didn’t stray from the book too much to where I couldn’t continue to follow it.
3.5*
Another cute contemporary read from Lisa Brown Roberts, although this one had more drama, and was a little more frustrating, than some of her other books I’ve read. And there was a definite missed opportunity when it came to a certain person and situation- I really wish it had been better addressed.
This was a fun premise- a book obsessed book blogger who works in a bookstore her mom owns, trying to find her own hea, after being duped, and dumped, by the resident a-hole?!? I so wish I could transport myself to Shady Cove- it sounds like someplace I would love to live!
I liked Viv, but boy did she frustrate me at times- if she would have just listened and let people talk, instead of *thinking* she knew what they were going to say…ugh, teen-age girls! (I was one once, a long time ago, so I can be frustrated with her, because I *was* her!) I appreciated she saw what she was doing was wrong, although it took her awhile to come to that realization- but what can you expect from a teen, honestly?
Dallas was adorable. He was just so darling and I felt bad for him- usually it’s the male who’s so clueless, but in this case it was Viv.
Since these are high school kids, there’s no happily ever after, but this was a hard fought trip to a hfn for these 2.
I loved that Viv had such a strong, supportive group of friends. I’m looking forward to Amy and Toff’s story, it’s up next on my Kindle. I hope Jaz will be getting her own book as well!
If your looking for a HEA story, you should read this, it’s a little dense but funny and easy to read.
This is the story of a high school girl named Vivvy—sorry, she hates that—Vivian, whose heart is broken by an attractive, thoughtless jerk named Jake. Viv is smart and funny. She loves romance books and the original Star Trek series—especially Mr. Spock. Any decent guy would be lucky to have her. But because of what happened with Jake, she has taken herself off the market.
Of course, it takes two to make a romance, and Dallas is the mysterious newcomer who represents everything that threatens Viv’s plans. He, too, is smart and loves Star Trek—especially Captain Kirk.
If you enjoy breezy romantic comedy with lots of snappy dialog, quirky townsfolk, and a nice beach setting, then this book is for you.
We’ve all been there – hurt in love. And all of us have at one time or another said, “never again” only to fall again. The Replacement Crush is the adorable story of Vivian who experienced the heat of a secret summer fling but also the way it scalds when it turns out his expectations were different than hers. What ensues is Vivian’s mission to control her love life and her hormones, except her mom has hired the new kid at school – McNerd, Dallas – who for some reason ignites all of the feels in Viv, feels she doesn’t want.
The Replacement Crush is an adorable, goofy smile inducing, heartwarming story that had me laughing out loud as well as cheering. I will definitely put this on the “one of my favorites” shelf and reread it every time I need a feel good read.
Did not transition between scenes.
A good coming of age book about the ups and downs of young love.
Fun teen and cozy town life portrayed well. Great easy read
I loved the repartee between the characters and I loved the trekkiness lingo. I did not love the bad language included in the fight part.
Lot’s of fun
I enjoyed the characters and the plot was somewhat different than I thought it would be.
I loved it!
Moved very slow but good story.
Cute little teen love story to lighten up the thrillers and mysteries. Even I, in my elderly (lol) years, like a little love story to remind me of some of my escapades. Oh, my………
So despite ending our a HEA, this book was very frustrating. You seriously get sick of how dumb she is through the whole story. Though the way it ended was awesome and is why I give the extra star.
If you are into stories with a teen protagonist who can take on an enemy of the known world and come up with ideas on strategies before any adult can, then you may not like this story.
I actually like those types of stories, but every so often, I do like to read about a teenager with normal teen fears, normal teen hopes, and normal teen drama.
Even though I’ve been out of high school for a while (let’s just say it’s been well over a decade), this book brought me back to those days of teenage angst, mood swings, hormones and that nasty recipe that made me do or say idiotic things. In this way, I did feel Vivian was one of the most realistic teen characters that I’ve read about for this day and age.
Some people may have found the book slow moving to start, but I think that the when it comes to figuring out how to get over a crush, the process Vivian goes through is a little like what I remember going through as a teen – it’s always a slow process.
Another common ground I found with the protagonist is that in high school, I was so good at appearing aloof, cold and factual that my sister would call me a “Vulcan”. But I put on that façade to protect my heart because deep down I wasn’t like that at all. As a teenage girl, I was actually fragile and easily hurt by boys, but I refused to let my true emotions show. I think in some ways, I even did the replacement crush thing – or rebound thing, where I was determined to keep my heart out of it. Funnily enough, that was the point I was at (again in my YA life) when I agreed to date a young man thinking he would get bored of me and dump me after a couple of weeks. We ended up getting married, and are still happily married many years later. So maybe there is some logic to that after all. (Take note all “Vulcans” out there).
It also helps that I’m a nerd and yet have the same views of Star Trek as the character Vivian did (I like the storylines more than factuality relating to Space and physics).
So, for the category of Young Adult fiction and taking into account that I knew it would be about teen drama going in, I couldn’t find any fault with this story, and thus it earns a 5-star rating in my book.
