A second chance at the one thing his billions can’t buy…As a trauma surgeon, Isabelle Rockwell has devoted her life to helping others. Her life is too crazy for romance…despite a powerful attraction to a stranger during an unexpected layover in Italy. But there’s no time to obsess over the mystery man. Independent, fascinating, equally career-focused, she’s the perfect temporary distraction.

“Come here, you”… And read this book! The third in the Rockwell Series, it is as sizzling as the first two books. The bantering siblings, the camaraderie and love between them, and a tantalizingly good good plot all hooking you from chapter one to the last. Isabelle and Lyle’s story is delish… They are both at crossroads; Isabelle drawn to her childhood home by a dream of her mother and Lyle with the possibility of being de-billionaired. But that can’t put a lid on their chemistry; hot enough to melt the snow.
Quote: “It’s nice to be alone,” he murmured as he drew her into his arms. “Let’s not leave until ski o’clock tomorrow.” He slid his hands down her back to the upper curve of her rear. She melted against him. “Ski o’clock?” she murmured. “Does that come before or after half-past-hot-tub?”
Ms Bernard does not disappoint and her linguistic skills deliver yet another winner.
And now there’s Gracie’s story to look forward to…
Ahhhh! What didn’t I love about this latest piece of the Rockwell family puzzle?!
The second chance after being snowed in, perfection!
The fun family Christmas, Clark Griswold would be proud!
The hot millionaire and the sexy doctor, steamy!
I love that Jennifer Bernard is incorporating an ongoing mystery storyline in this series and can’t wait for the next clue!
This was my first book by Jennifer, I’ve read it as a standalone without reading any of the other books in the series, and to be honest I really felt I was missing out on a lot of the plot points, the family connections and history, etc., so while it can be read as a standalone I would advise reading the others in this series first – saying that when I did get into the story I did enjoy it!!
Isabelle is a trauma surgeon working for Doctors Without Borders, and has gone back home to the family at Rocky Peak Lodge, which is in the process of being renovated, for Christmas. The person helping fund the renovation is none other that Lyle, a billionaire she met in Rome and had a bit of a thing with, who left an imprint on her in both good and bad ways. She’s trying everything she can to stay out of his way!!
Lyle has thought about Isabelle non-stop since Rome, and was more than willing to help funding the renovations when he found out it was her family. He’s at the Lodge while there is a bit of a ruckus going on with his business, he is there out of the way while someone he thought of as his family challenges him for his CEO.
Lyle and Isabelle come from completely different backgrounds, she brought up surrounded by a big family that are a little crazy – the antics in here and the Christmas traditions will have you laughing and leave a smile on your face! Lyle was brought up in foster homes, knows nothing about families or relationships, having just lived to work. But Isabelle brings something out in him he has never experienced before and wants more of it.
I enjoyed their highly charged interactions, Lyle was adorable in his unique knack of putting his foot in it around Isabelle!! Good reading, pity I hadn’t read any of the others first though!!
I can’t tell you how glad I am that Jennifer Bernard has continued to write. So many of my favorite authors aren’t. So to keep writing and publishing them yourself is a lot of work and I really appreciate it.
The Renegade is third book in her new Rockwell Legacy series. I’ve been enjoying this series. The character haven been so much fun to read about. I love books that revolve around big families. I know with my family it doesn’t matter if you’re being mean or nice we still end up laughing about it.
To me the stand out character in this one is Lyle. He’s just so….everything.
Let’s take away the money and work with the rest. He’s a man that never gives himself credit for being a good person. He so busy focusing on work so that he won’t have to deal with what’s missing from his life that he almost let go the one thing that worked perfect for him.
In a way Isabella is also running. She thinks she following her dreams but is she? Or is it that those dreams take her away from a life that she felt is holding her back from living. I know I’m not giving what I’m saying justice, you just have to read the book to understand my thoughts. Us being close friends and all you’ll get it right away! Ha!
Together these two just work. The bring out the best in each other and complete each other. I really do enjoy them. I also liked all the family fun times at the holiday’s. I think not matter what’s going on in your lives or how little time you have to spare you should always try and make time for each other during the holidays.
The Renegade is a wonderful story that will keep you reading from cover to cover. It has enjoy of the other characters in the series that you feel that coming home feeling. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
I just loved this book and I laughed out loud quite a few times at Isabelle’s reactions to things. Lyle was such a great character who really found out who he was in this story. I loved his interactions with Isabelle’s family. A great read!
The billionaire & the doctor from Doctors Without Borders. Some would say the selfish vs the selfless. They would be wrong! Lyle is not your typical billionaire. He isn’t cold & calculating but rather warm & down to earth. Isabella is smart, sexy & witty. I love that, instead of falling at Lyle’s feet & worshipping him & his money, she’s making him work. Her sarcasm & wit really made this story for me. Each of these books can easily be read as a stand-alone since they are self contained. They do all have a common theme in the Rockwell family & their resort. Ms. Bernard has given her readers another terrific book & left them eagerly anticipating the next.
Isabelle returns home with the rest of the Rockwellls for the much needed renovations. What she doesn’t expect is Lyle Guero billionaire and one night stand, to be here footing the bill.
I loved Isabelle! She has the perfect combination of snark, humor and fierceness. Her job as a doctor in war torn countries has made her demanding, well, that and her father, Max. Her life after her mother’s accident was never the same. As the oldest daughter, she felt it was her duty to be everything for the family. She tried but her calling was greater. When she falls for Lyle, she falls hard but not without battling herself. After caring for a friends baby, she finds she wants more from her life.
Lyle is so alpha but he doesnt know what to do with a woman whose just as alpha. Lyle has had to grow up in a system that was unfair. He fought to become another person as an adult, literally and figuratively. He rebuilt himself but has no idea who he really is. He enlists Isabelle to find out. That’s the way he connects to her again.
These two are unlikely lovers. Both are so dominate you would think that they would get so frustrated they would give up. Not so. They gravitate toward each other and stay within each others orbit. Isabelle is used to fighting for the people she cares about. Lyle hasn’t had a family to learn this from but he’s learning fast.
I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us. This family isn’t done with discovering all the secrets that have been hidden.
Isabelle Rockwell is a trauma surgeon who has devoted years to serving with Doctors Without Borders. During a layover in Rome she meets billionaire Lyle Guero and they spend an enjoyable snowbound night together thinking that they will never see each other again after they leave Rome.
When Lyle discovers that Isabelle’s family’s business, Rocky Peak Lodge, is in financial trouble, he jumps at the chance to help by investing in the lodge.
When Isabelle comes home for Christmas she finds an unexpected guest…Lyle Guero. He is keeping a low profile (at the advice of his Board of Directors) while his foster brother attempts a hostile takeover of the business that Lyle spent his whole adult life building.
Isabelle has a recurring dream about her mother. She thinks that the dream means that her mother is trying to tell her something. She goes in search of her mother’s journals in the hope that they contain the answer to whatever it is that her mother wants her to know.
This is Book 3 in The Rockwell Legacy Series. I highly recommend this book and this series to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
This series continues to get better and better! Out of the gates I was smitten with Isabelle’s snarky quirks and I fell instantly in love with Lyle’s vulnerable charm. The entire Rockwell family is one I want to be a part of, especially when it comes to Christmas, please send me to Rocky Peak Lodge.
Lyle Guero, the cold hearted billionaire, or is he? To Isabelle Rockwell he’s just a sweet, sexy man that she met in an airport in Rome. A fleeting moment that should have been just that. Now, Lyle is staying at Rocky Peak invading her space, her home, and her thoughts. What is he doing there, aside from bailing out her family from financial ruin, the physical aspect of him actually being there is what has her stomach in knots. Lyle the billionaire is fine, Lyle the kind-hearted man is someone she isn’t sure she can stay away from.
Lyle hasn’t forgotten the woman he met in Rome and when he had the opportunity to see her again he took it. He saw it as fate, it had to be. Sure he had to deal with some business while he was at Rocky Peak Lodge, but seeing Isabelle again was his highest motivator. He wasn’t about to tell her she was basically the only motivator, he didn’t want to come off all “stalkery” afterall. He’d just stick with business…yeah, play it cool. He was known as a cold-hearted businessman afterall, he could play it cool.
Both deemed as a renegade in their own professions and in their personal lives, Lyle and Isabelle are both familiar with thinking outside the box. They are also both courageous, stubborn, and enjoy a good challenge. Perfectly matched they balance each other out in their strengths and weaknesses. I loved watching them evolve as a couple and balance each other out.
Isabelle is on a quest; to find the journals her mother wrote in when Isabelle was a little girl. However, she ends up needing Lyle’s help. She also discovers Lyle isn’t quite the cold-hearted man he has everyone believing he is. Together they grow closer as the holiday season presses in upon them. Can they keep it casual when feelings begin to rise?
Last comment: I need the Rockwell Christmas traditions to happen in my life and I want to participate in them from this day forth! So any family members reading this better help me institute them immediately!!
