more
I’ve only read two in this series and I have enjoyed them both very much. Guy Bodie and his elite team of thieves are coerced into working with the CIA to steal priceless artifacts. The team dynamics are both funny and heartwarming.
A rip-roaring yarn, perfect to read on a long distance flight.
Loved the historical references, and the chase through Europe.
You will be required to suspend belief with the flight scenes, slightly more Bond-like than they are realistic. But hey, this book is an action packed adventure. So the fight scenes fit.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and have already purchased book #2 in the series! Bring on more relics.
This is the first book in a new series for David Leadbeater and you can tell it is trying to find it’s feet so i expect book 2 will be even better once it get a good flow going. I liked the characters as you got to know the team more through out the book, there were also characters you loved to hate as well as ones you wouldn’t tangle with no matter what and the story evolved and unfolded well. Bodie grew up rough but after being taken in and shown how to steal he found a direction in life and started to build a family around him of people who had skills that made them a masterful team. Now the CIA need their help tracking down a map and finding a long thought destroyed relic unfortunately Bodie nor his team can say no otherwise Bodie goes back to prison where he will likely be killed. There is plenty of action through out the book as well as riddles, twists and times where you think the team will fail which keeps you reading page after page.
Bodie and his merry band of thieves are perfect for fans of cinematic, escapist adventure. The action scenes were fantastic!
Good series
This is the first book of the series. Guy Bodie, the mastermind of a group of thieves, was arrested and thrown in a prison. The condition of his rescue was that he work with another team. The coercion is set aside as he works with this other team to try to retrieve the relic and save the world from further destruction from a power-driven organization.
I enjoyed following along with the clues that were a bit cryptic at times. Getting to know Guy Bodie and the situations that he was placed in, helped to build a foundation and build interest in reading future books in this series.
Guy Bodie leads a SPEAR-like team of the eponymous Relic Hunters, in David Leadbeater’s new series of the same name as the book.Although the novel gets off to a good start, it seems to peter out as the characters are unfamiliar and not yet as engaging or well-developed as our beloved SPEAR/Matt Drake stories…that’s not to say they won’t become as good in time. The archaeological aspect of the Matt Drake novels continues here, as the team save (mostly stolen),ancient artefacts from evil-doers’ grasp on a semi-regular basis, acting as independent, modern ‘Robin Hoods’,as they reunite treasures with their rightful owners or heirs,.In this story, however their past missions come home to roost, leaving them to become merely US government-controlled mercs with special skills, – it’s either that, or jail! Don’t hesitate to try this first book in The Relic Hunters series and see what you think!
