GLYNNIS CAMPBELL is a USA Today bestselling author of swashbuckling action-adventure romance. She’s the wife of a rock star, and the mother of two young adults, but she’s also been a ballerina, a typographer, a film composer, a piano player, a singer in an all-girl rock band, and a voice in those violent video games you won’t let your kids play. She does her best writing on cruise ships, in Scottish castles, on her husband’s tour bus, and at home in her sunny southern California garden. Glynnis loves to play medieval matchmaker, transporting readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is alive and well!

A medieval girl can do anything!
What a charming read! I really enjoyed it. Glynnis Campbell knows how to capture a reader’s interest right away. A lady thief trying to impress her cousins by stealing their neighbor’s cows, the neighbor laird, who is a handsome widower with two lively twin sons, a harsh uncle, a mystic tavern wench who predicts a star will determine the destiny of two who make the right decisions, what more can one want? A short novella but such a satisfying read. Highly recommend.
Although it’s a novella I found it a great read. This girl who wants to show her cousins she can steal cows like them but finds herself captured by the Laird.
Wonderfully written!
Humorous and enjoyable
Cristy Moffat lives with her Uncle and cousins after her parents die. She is trying to prove herself to her cousins to show that she is a part of the family by stealing one of their new neighbors cows. They’ve already stolen 5 of his cows so Brochan Macintosh is waiting for them. She gets caught because she’s watching a comet fly across the sky and is remembering what the woman in the tavern said to her about changing her fate. The story unfolds from there as Brochan was in the same tavern and told the same thing about the shooting star. Cristy is taken as a hostage to get the cows back, but her Uncle doesn’t want her back and tells Brochan to keep her. He doesn’t want her to know she was unwanted so he tells her a different story about why she isn’t going home. She finds the note and realizes that is what he has done. Even after a few misunderstandings, they come together. I loved the characters and the story line. I would definitely recommend this book.
A fast paced book that is a fantastic read. This author can bring the story to life with her descriptive writting, you will get lost in the story almost from the start of the book highly recommend reading this one
I really enjoyed this story, I was drawn in from the very beginning and while I knew the outcome, I found myself still completely entranced with this delightful story. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I definitely plan to read more of her work! I really felt for Cristy as she has no one who even cares for her! A wonderful, descriptive story!!
A story that touched my heart, just love how the characters worked well with the story lines. Beautiful story.,Big hit for the Author, just loved the book.
Some authors just know how to grab a reader on page one and have the characters and story flow smoothly keeping the reader turning the page. Ms Campbell is one of those authors. This is the first book of hers that I have read and I found it hard to put down. It flowed beautifully with characters and a story that were heart warming. I was a very easy to read story, filled with joy and humor and great morals and unusual for a historical romance, no real violence. The story did have a couple of sex scenes and as usual this reviewer skipped them but it did not impact my enjoyment of the story and I will certainly be reading more from this author. I would highly recommend this story for anyone looking for a lovely read.
Nothing better than a story with a moral to it!
I found myself quite entranced with this tale. It is very representative the time period. I really appreciate the multiple layers of information presented. Truly believable development of relationship dynamic between characters also.
I loved read The Reiver by Glynnis Cambell. This is the first romances that I’ve read that takes place in historical times. I fell in love with the setting, characters and storyline. It was a fun and easy read. I loved how the wench at the tavern had tole both of them the stars or comet would change their lives and they both questioned it. In the end just that happened.
This prequel to the Medieval Outlaws series is a charming romance set in 1211 Scotland. The tale starts when a tavern “wench, Brighde predicts that the fates of 2 lost souls would be changed by the approaching comet. So begins the love story of a widower with 2 small boys, Brochan and a young lass”Cristy whose been abused by her uncle and cousins. For such a short story the characters were well developed -I found myself giggling along with the boys at Cristy’s antics and Brochan’s telling of Aesop’s fables. I recommend this quick lovely story to those who believe in a chance to begin again.
Brochan and Cristy’s story is fun, a little dangerous, a little mystical and those twins just make the story! I love medieval set stories!
The Reiver is a prelude to The Medieval Outlaws Series and will keep to entranced from the beginning to end. These. characters were charming and very likeable.I like strong female leads and Cristy definitely leads this story and her attachment t To change and his boys is understandable after the life she has led. Her abusive uncle and cousins have really made her life hard. When she is caught stealing Brochan’s cows and held hostage by him she is amazed that family life can be so enjoyable. Brochan who is widowed spends alot of time fighting his attraction to Cristy but it is understandable in the end that they can’t fight it forever. The story of two lonely people who have been just getting by and find joy and happiness together is why this book works so well. Great family values and loyalty throughout are refreshing. The twin boys are a great tension reliever and a spot if humor throughout the book. Glynnis Campbell has done a great job in making these characters enticing and you want the HEA for them even though you are expecting it
Well written, fast moving story. Young widower with two children who captures a thief who was stealing his cattle. But this thief has stolen more than his cows. In the end, she has stolen his heart. Can he admit his love for her without betraying his long dead wife? See what this canny thief does to get this Highlander to admit his love for her.
The Reiver is a heartwarming story that really hits all of the feels. The main character Cristy is a girl who lost everything and what she has left is an abusive uncle and 5 male cousins who think she’s worthless. Until one night she is caught trying to steal a cow her life turns upside down and she now is being held hostage by Brochan Macintosh. Cristy is left to wonder if her uncle will come get her in exchange for stolen cows or if life with Brochan is what she really needs.
I wish this book was full length and not a novella did not want it to end. The Stars are aligned just right for love. Cristy is a young lady who lives with her uncle and five cousins although they don’t want her there. She doesn’t belong with them but what choice did she have. Her uncle is abusive. On a night out trying to prove to her cousins she can steal a cow to make their herd bigger she gets caught. Brochan can not believe it it’s been a young lads stealing his cows he caught her now what to do with her. Cristy finds herself in a mess the Laird is holding her hostage will her uncle give him back his cows? I really enjoyed the way the twins were gentlemen and raised with respect and I’m glad they found Cristy who interacts wonderfully well with them.
An entertaining historical romance! I really enjoyed the fiery characters and how courageous and strong they were. It was a fun quick story.
The flow of the story line was written very well. I am normally not a person who likes to read novellas because I find the story flow is way to fast, but with this book it actually was written very well so I didn’t mind at all it was a novella. I will be reading more books by this author if all of her writing is this good.
